 On May 27th, 1999, Geraldine Halliwell left one of the most successful bands of all time - the Spice Girls. No one will forget the music the 5 made together, or their strong belief in Girl Power. They will always be remembered in our hearts.
There are many reasons why Geri left - most of them unclear. Some say Geri and the two Melanie's had too many things to say to eachother, while others say Geri couldn't stand the pressure of the media. But whatever it was, Geri had left, taking Ginger Spice with her.
"It was a shock for all of us", commented Mel C, " But we're behind her, and we hope she's behind us in what we do. But we're actually quite happy with the way we are at the moment."
Geri left with a message to her fans that 'she was sorry that she had disappointed all the fans'. But she left with one message that gave the Geri wannabes some hope; 'P.S. I'll be back.'
And indeed she is! With her new single out, 'Look at me', she shows that Geri is back.. and bigger than ever. It leaped into the British charts to number 2. She didn't achieve the success that the Spice Girls achieved with 'Wannabe', but it was a start.
Geri's new and first solo album is out in stores tomorrow, June 6, and she is delighted with it. She may have toned down her hair, her girl power, and her attitude, but Geri is here... and here she'll stay.- Kate Clague
