LA Guns Reunion Show

October 9th, 1999

Jackson Hole, Phoenix Arizona

On October 9th in Arizona, glam metal once again reigned. Screams and cheers ripped through the crows as LA Guns took the stage. Phil wore a purple lace shirt and some type of paisley-print stretch pants. Tracii donned only a pair of jeans, showing numerous tattoos. Despite the rumors of inner-group tension, all the Guns appeared happy and excited to be playing together. The crowd was ecstatic to see the original front man of LA Guns perform many classics in that sleazy, Hollywood vamp-style that dominated the late 80s.

Much to the pleasure of long-time fans, many of the songs were the ‘classics’ from the original line up. The Guns opened with FACE DOWN and SEX ACTION. Although energy was high throughout the show, I thought they really started kicking ass on the third song of the set ONE MORE REASON TO DIE. Phil was jumping and swaying quite a bit during most of the show, which may have been induced by the bottle of Jack Daniel he was guzzling in between songs.

The encore started with THE BALLAD OF JANE then broke into a version of the classic "I SAW HER STANDING THERE" that was just dripping with that sleazy style only LA Guns could produce. The final song to everyone’s delight was RIP AND TEAR.About this time a pit started and several intoxicated fans were escorted to the rear of the bar.

I thought LA Guns sounded just like I remembered them, and I was quite pleased that they still seemed in sync. They did pick an appropriate opening act, Psycho Gypsy, which is a 1990’s version of Faster Pussycat. Overall, it was a great time and definitely a must-see for all those in search of reliving a few moments from those wild and crazy 80s!
