"Doesn't Really Matter:" The Review (5/23/2000) and Janet's 9th #1 single (3 weeks at #1 and certified Gold)
This funky track from the one and only Ms. Jackson isn't one of those three minute B-sides nor a duet. Janet along with Jam and Lewis captured an original essence that raises Janet to a slightly new level (more to come w/the new album) Janet's personality is spread throughout the entire song: her laugh towards the end, the sultry slow breakdown, and of course the overall beat. To be honest I can't really say anything bad about the song. -NoRalChicago- (5/23/2000)
Janet made her debut at #7 on MTV's Total Request Live. In her appearance there, July 10th, she mentioned "Doesn't Really Matter" as one of her favorite videos.
Doesn't Really Matter: The Track History (From Radio Release, to single debut, to #1, to now) Radio release: May 22nd 2000 (the track had its World Premiere here in Chicago on B96!) Video Choreography: Shawnette Heard and "Marty" (possibly a new "kid") New Dancers: Faunn and Jenna Video Concept/Release/: June 28th along w/ a feature on MTV's "Making The Video". "Sugar," at least that's the title on Janet's hot pink shirt for the video "Doesn't Really Matter". The video has many green screen imaging effects, which isn't new for Janet @Runway, and a large blue/white platform. Scenes of Janet in a car and of her lying down are just a few of the video's highlights. The dance sequence ultimately pushes the song and Janet's choreography to another plateau by incorporating fresh new moves and a new twist on the song. Directed by Joseph Kahn.
