GAHAGAJ: So how old are you Gary?

BLURVIS: Late 20s

GAHAGAJ: A good age to be, I'm 27.

BLURVIS: I'm a couple on ya but pass for 24 so don't want to give away too many secrets.

GAHAGAJ: Hahahaa… So who is in Blurred Vision and what are their pedigrees?

BLURVIS: Pedigrees like what are they punk skins etc?

GAHAGAJ: Just what bands they've been in…

BLURVIS: Azzis is from Tank O Piss and Rukus and was also in TBK plays guitar for us. Jeremy is the drummer he was in Vomit as Kye was in Vomit as well he plays bass for us. Glen joined the band after the 2nd jam plays guitar is also in Zero Tolerance. I played in a ska band which happened to do 3 oi songs in the late 80s and aint done anything since and I just love the music.

GAHAGAJ: What ska band was that?

BLURVIS: The Skatoons.

GAHAGAJ: Record anything?

BLURVIS: We was really shit this Italian guy was out at the time and he had a skazine back in Italy he sent us a copy the prick called us "the butchers of ska".

GAHAGAJ: BWAAAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA....

BLURVIS: Nah just a few tapes you know pissed rehearsal sessions but they all disappeared, just a couple of old flyers left. My girlfriend of the time took 2 rolls of pics she got the audience shots but none of the fucking band.

GAHAGAJ: So are you/were you ever a skinhead?

BLURVIS: Yeah I will always be in my heart too but there is too much politics involved now for me to know label myself a skinhead but I love the scene.

GAHAGAJ: Yeah I was/am whatever a skin too Gary, similar story here.

BLURVIS: For me our music is streetpunk which also means oi and its for everyone regardless of race or if they are sxe or not.

BLURVIS: We used to come to Canberra to watch the soccer and I remember F-Troop.

GAHAGAJ: Yeah?!

BLURVIS: But yeah I keep the hair short and wear boots and sometimes a Perry but if I happen to be wearing that stuff its just cause that's what was there not because its a fashion.

GAHAGAJ: So do you see streetrock as being on the rise again?

BLURVIS: I think there are enough people around to see that there is too much fighting amongst ourselves. I mean fuck we fight over wether a guy drinks or not or smoke its bullshit.

GAHAGAJ: Hahahaaa agreed.

BLURVIS: Yeah stop worrying about the colour of ya laces they just tie your fucking boots up for fuck sake. I'm sick of seeing the scene dying because of dickheads it's about the music.

GAHAGAJ: So do you see streetrock as being on the rise again?

BLURVIS: Yeah but I would like to think the music is on the rise. I mean its always there and there is always potential because of the shit happening around us. It don't matter if its 1979 or 2029 there is always going to bands you know telling wot the fuck is going on, its whether we fucking idiots can get it into our heads we have to stand together.

GAHAGAJ: What bands do you like to go and see these days?

BLURVIS: Pretty big on Wollongong bands because we have a tight scene down here. I've only been here 5 mins but um bands like Tank O Piss, Rukus, Area7, Bracode, Last Hemz, Dr Raju…

GAHAGAJ: I see. What are you favourite old school punk and ska bands?

BLURVIS: Fuck how much space do I have with oi?

GAHAGAJ: All the space you need.

BLURVIS: Cockney Rejects, Cocksparrer, early Sham69, Angelic Upstarts, Stiff Little Fingers, the Business, Toy Dolls. There are heaps with ska, Aussie ska was always the best. I guess because we got to see the bands live and feel the atmosphere which ya don't get off an album.

GAHAGAJ: True.

BLURVIS: But bands like the Leftovers, F-Troop, Allniters, Off the Shelf, Strange Tenants, Bluebeat Allstars. Overseas I guess we all got into Madness and shit, but I liked later bands like the Loafers and Skadows.

GAHAGAJ: The bands in between two tone and the third wave, the forgotten bands.

BLURVIS: I think the forgotten wave. I think the Americans just didn't recognise the 3rd wave of ska was big in 87-88 with a huge ska uprise started by the Trojans and Gaz Mayal.

GAHAGAJ: So did you ever get into scooters at all?

BLURVIS: Yeah I had a scooter back in 86, a Vespa 150.

GAHAGAJ: Any modifications?

BLURVIS: Yeah a bar at the back and crash bars, and I remember pulling up out front of Town Hall steps one days and the place was packed full of punks, none of my skinhead mates, and fuck I didn't recognise one face. They was just pointing and laughing because of the fucking ridiculous Formula One helmet I was wearing.

GAHAGAJ: Hahahaaaa nice one…. Ahh Craigo wanted me to ask you a question, hold on..."ask him about coming from the home of free thinking hippies with gay haircuts ect ect".

BLURVIS: what the fuck does that mean?

GAHAGAJ: I think he is referring to the crusties of Wollongong

BLURVIS: Ahh my frenz they are cool people

GAHAGAJ: Hahaha… cool.

GAHAGAJ: So how would you describe the sound of Blurred Vision yourself?

BLURVIS: Real.

GAHAGAJ: Fair enough.

BLURVIS: I mean the guys are young but know what they are doing. Aaron is a little older and is fucking awesome on the guitar I mean we write lyrics hell pluck out a riff and Jez will be straight in we may have to do the songs 6 or 7 times before we get what we want but we work well together because we have a common goal of not playing shit.

GAHAGAJ: Do you wanna name drop those covers that you do again for the purposes of the interview?

BLURVIS: Nah we are going to try and learn as many covers as we can so we can do requests and shit we will be doing the majority of originals with maybe 2 or 3 covers in a set when we start doing gigs away from home.

GAHAGAJ: So what covers are you doing at the moment?

BLURVIS: We know ACAB, Blind Justice... want to learn I'm Not A Fool in the near future and guys wanna play Loud Proud n Punk.

GAHAGAJ: Nice picks too so how long does your set go for altogether now?

BLURVIS: By the gig in a few weeks 10 songs maybe 30 mins with a bit of a laugh between songs.

GAHAGAJ: Hey do you smoke cigars at all?

BLURVIS: Nope, cigs though.

GAHAGAJ: Ah never mind…. What are your originals about?

BLURVIS: One is about a young girl who was raped at a young age and was abused by pimps and shit. She died at 15…

GAHAGAJ: Uplifting stuff…

BLURVIS: Worked the streets from the age of 12.

GAHAGAJ: What is that called?

BLURVIS: Teenage Statistic.

GAHAGAJ: The others?

BLURVIS: Another one is just about the scene getting together fighting for each other not against each other its called Boots On Our Feet.

GAHAGAJ: Hahaha ala theReal Enemy?

BLURVIS: Kinda like a lot of songs that say 'unite' we sing along and think its heaps cool but we don't actually listen.

GAHAGAJ: Riiiiiiiiight, I gotcha.

BLURVIS: Another is called Fashion Freaks its just about posers and a catchy tune called Army Boy which was the first song we ever done. We are going to do t-shirts and shit and demos but they will be heaps cheap. We don't wanna be rock n roll stars.

GAHAGAJ: You got an address where people can contact you about that stuff?

BLURVIS: Not yet just email, smog_wollongong@hotmail.com

GAHAGAJ: Okeydokey.
