Brendan's Biography

by Paula

Brendan James Fraser was born on December 3, 1968 in Indianapolis, Indiana. As a child, he traveled with his family around the world in an effort to promote tourism in Canada. Among the many exotic places Brendan lived are Cleveland, Seattle, London, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Toronto, and his current home in Los Angeles.

Brendan heard his calling to become an actor at age twelve, while living in London surrounded by theater. He moved on to an all-boys prep school in Canada, and after graduation, Brendan attended a college for the arts in Seattle. Here he lived in a dormitory with three female roomates, possibly too make up for his adolescence at prep school. In 1991, Brendan drove his mom's car to Los Angeles in order to audition for a part which he did not win. He did, however, land a one-line part in the film Dogfight; a tv movie with Martin Sheen; the title role in Encino Man; and top

billing in School Ties almost immediately.

After this initial blitz of job offers, Brendan was virtually ignored by Hollywood and the media. He was passed over in favor of uglier, far less talented young actors (but I won't mention Keanu Reeves, Christian Slater, Ethan Hawke, etc. here). Brendan made movies between 1992 and 1997, but he received little attention for them. 1997 ushered in what I hope will become the Age of Brendan. In March he starred in The Twilight of the Golds, and in July he was the title character and star of Disney's sleeper hit, George of the Jungle (which received surprisingly positive reviews from film critics, although there were a few ignorami who probably didn't understand the highbrow humor).

Today, Brendan lives in a new house in Los Angeles with his dog, Wiley, and his f-f-f-fiance (gee whiz, it's difficult to say that) Afton Smith. According to USA Weekend, the couple plans to m-m-m-m-m-marry this fall. I'll keep you posted.
