Alex Tecson
Keyboards, Special effects
Alex is the driving force behind Klassik band’s trademark sound – super synthesizer sounds from special effects to piano to strings to brass. Alex gets all his sound collection from the latest Roland and Yamaha keyboards.
Being one of the musical brothers (Dale is Alex’s younger brother) in the band, Alex owe their musical ability much from their father who also plays the piano.
Born in Cebu City, Philippines, the Tecson Family moved to Toronto in 1974 and started learning to play “Love me tender” using his father’s professional Farfisa keyboard, a popular organ in the seventies with unique outstanding features.
At age 12, he got his first formal training on the piano following the curriculum standardized by the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM), and competed at the Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association held annually in the Recital Hall of the RCM, winning on the second year of competition.
Groups that had profound influence in his playing and using sound synthesis were, to name a few, the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), Emerson Lake and Palmer, and Rush.
In 1987, together with his brother Dale formed the group the “Filipino Five-O” band that features Alex on keyboards playing the Roland JP, Yamaha piano and the Yamaha DX-7. Alex left that band to finish school that resulted years of hiatus in playing keyboards and out of the limelight. Eventually, Dale was able to convinced him to join the Klassik when it was formed in November of 1999.
Alex travels to Los Angeles on a regular basis. On a personal note, he praise the band’s unique talent when performing live. Klassik was born in Noel’s (Klassik drummer) basement studio and had grown to know them for over two years. He sense them like family and blessed to be with such incredible people with such tremendous amount of musical aptitude.
