Here's Noel, Silhouette Band's timekeeper. Consistent tempo and beat is the name of the game for the man who's also in-charge of the band's logistics and Transportation.
As a self-taught musician who started playing guitar at an age of 15 (back in Cebu City, Philippines), Noel shifted to drums when one day he got a call to fill in as a drummer with a local group. He then started playing drums seriously and have been heavily influenced mostly by Kenny Aronoff (of Linda Ronstadt, John Cougar Mellencamp) style of solid rock and roll backbeats.
The younger brother of Rey, they mmigrated to Canada in 1990 and then on learn to play drums from instructional videos, drum tablatures and listening to music from different genre from pop, rock, jazz, fusion, disco, samba and cha-cha. He join Sticky Substance with Rey on guitars performing in weddings and corporate gigs around Toronto hotels until 1995, then with a rock n' roll band called Gentle Touch for a brief period in 1997.
Playing drums/music is just a part-time profession but it gives Noel satisfaction and appreciate life more.
His first drumset was a entry level 1992 5pcs. color black TAMA Rockstar drums, 22 inch bass drum. The Tama drums are built very solid and sounds excellent when heads are tune properly. Currently, Noel is using YAMAHA Stage custom drums. JAZZ kit drums, 20 “ bass drums, 10”,12”14” inch toms and 5x 14” wood snare drums. It's going be his alternate kit as his new TAMA Star Classic Maple is the main iinstrument. He also uses drumpads and electronic effects.
With his busy schedule balancing family and career, he tries to practiced/rehearse 1-2 hours everyday. He advises that the only way to get better on any instrument you play is to be patient and constant practice till perfection.
Noel resides in Mississauga and works for Information Technology for a major Insurance Company in Aurora, Ontario.
