MADONNA NEWS

Beautiful Stranger is all over MTV and raio (request, request) and the single is set to be released worldwide on May 31 with the following tracks:
LP Version
Calderone Club Mix
Calderone Radio Mix
and of course a US release is not confirmed. Great line:
Austin: "You're headed the right way for a smacked bottom!"
Madonna: "I hope so."

The track is a great 60s inspired gem and the video with Mike Myers as Austin Powers is adorable! Here's Billboard's review of the track:
Chalk up a new shift in the wind for the ever-inventive Lady Madonna, who hits another creative high with this wholly captivating single from the soundtrack to Austin Powers The Spy Who Shagged Me. In the groovy, late-60's spirit of the film's lead character, this latest partnership with producer William Orbit taps into a walloping romp of guitars and enough cascading organs to prompt an urge to listen to your Monkees collection [Actually, close followers may recognize the track's inspiration in Orbit's remix of Madonna's Ray Of Light]. Her vocal here is crisp and dead-on think her Evita voice-complete with a chorus that will pop into your head and dance around there until you feel madness setting in. It's always a joy when a well-established artist is able to show that he or she is as creatively inspired as ever. This track does nothing but further Madonna's essential place in pop culture through the 80's, 90's, and now, beyond. Credible and utterly exceptional. The Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me soundtrack is released June 1 on Maverick Records.

The much delayed interview with 60 Minutes II finally aired and it was all mucj ado about nothing. 12 minutes long, focussing mainly on old clips, Charlie Rose tried desperately to get a rise out of Madonna and to paint her as some diva wench, but without avail. Madonna intelligently refuted his accusations and just because she wanted to look good on camera does not make her some power-mad bitch, as Rose tried to present her.

The Madonna interview on 60 Minutes II will air on Wednesday, May 19 on CBS.

Ricky Martin's self-titled debut is out in stores now, featuring the Madonna duet we've been talking about for months.

Beautiful Stranger, Madonna's contribution to the Austin Powers 2 soundtrack (June 1) is released to radio on May 19, the same day it debuts on MTV's Total Request Live. From MTV News: Madonna, Mike Myers Team Up For Austin Powers Video: Madonna shot a groovy video this past weekend in Los Angeles for her new soundtrack song, Beautiful Stranger, which was recorded for the Mike Myers spy spoof Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. Helmed by Rush Hour director Brett Ratner, the clip features Madonna as a brainwashed secret agent singing to a nightclub crowd that includes the characters Dr. Evil (Myers), his smaller counterpart Mini-Me (Verne Troyer), and a love-struck Austin Powers (Myers again). In the video, Powers is on a mission to bring back the secret agent from Dr. Evil's dark side, and he falls madly in love with Madonna as he fantasizes about her while she performs. In one humorous dream sequence, Madonna is seen fawning over Powers while he's driving his Union Jack-topped Jaguar. In a more psychedelic episode, the pair frolics around while accompanied by a series of trippy graphics. After the dream sequences subside, Madonna is seen leaving the nightclub with one of the featured characters. To find out which one, check out MTV's Total Request Live on Wednesday, May 19 for the world premiere of the Beautiful Stranger video. As for the star-studded soundtrack and movie, the record will be out on June 1st, while the film will be in theaters on June 15th."
Buzz on the song is great and the video will no doubt be hysterical!

Nothing Really Matters entered the Billboard chart at an awful #99, her lowest debut ever, and it may become here worst charting single ever, beating Love Don't Live Here Anymore's 1996 peak of #78. It should be noted however, that this is Madonna's first debut on the new Billboard charting system where sales only account for 25% of the position and airplay accounts for the rest, as opposed to a 50/50 split before. Sales themselves are actually better than The Power Of Goodbye's which peaked at #11.

March 30
Madonna did not attend the Oscars this year but she did appear at the Vanity Fair afterparty with Maverick's Guy Oesary and her brother Christopher.

ICON reports that this Christmas, a new best-of collection MIGHT be MAYBE released. I think instead of a follow-up to THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION it should be a remix album like YOU CAN DANCE, but what the hell do I know? Also, Madonna may contribute a song for the upcoming film: Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.

Madonna will be interviewed on CBS' 60 Minutes II on an unspecified date in April, ICON says so coincide with the beginning of production for The Next Best Thing. Sure to be absolutely facinating though, whenever its on!

Madonna is reportedly preparing to do a duet with Latin sensation Ricky Martin, whom she cuddled with for cameras at the Grammys after he took Best Latin Pop Performance.

Madonna has contributed a personally autographed Beanie Baby for a charity auction benefitting Caring For Babies with AIDS (CBA) which will be held in Los Angeles on April 18.

Madonna contributed the dress she wore to the Oscars in 1998 to "Unforgettable Fashions of the Oscars," a charity auction held at Christie's in NYC today benefitting AmFAR (American Foundation for AIDS Research). Also contributing Oscar fashions are Elizabeth Taylor, Cher, Uma Thurman, Bette Midler, Julia Roberts, Anjelica Huston, and more. Fetching the second highest price of the evening was Madonna's full-length, V-necked black silk and dove-gray tulle ensemble worn to the 1998 Academy Awards. Designed by Olivier Theyskens and Jean Paul Gaultier, it was bought for $79,500 by the Home Shopping Network, which said it would be used to publicize and raise more money for AIDS research. Elizabeth Taylor's 1969 Oscar dress grabbed the top bid of $167,500.

Madonna donated her handwritten Little Star lyrics to a charity auction project called "Hits Under The Hammer" which raises money for two children's charities, Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy and Norwood Ravenswood. These lyrics were sold for £6,000 (approx. $9,754.00 U.S. dollars).

The Next Best Thing, a romantic comedy-drama with Rupert Everett is set to film in April 1999. This spring, Madonna will also produce Ghetto Superstar starring Pras and Lauryn Hill. She also may contribute a song to the soundtrack (rumour).
