This time my friend and I flew
to Lawrence, Kansas to catch this show. We flew not only for Reel
Big Fish, but one of our really good friends
had moved there to go to college so we stayed with her.
My goal this time is to get
a picture with Scott. I wasn't going LEAVE until I had one.
My best friend decides that she too, will get a picture with her hero.
The bands playing this little
outdoor festival weren't all that great. Incubus and 2 Skinnee J's
were the openers. We didn't want them and stayed under a tent, cause
it must have been 90 degrees and humidity extremely high!! While
we wait we see a van pull up and go down the dirt road behind the tent
we were in. My friends and I decided that that would be Reel
Big Fish's bus and took a picture of it.
Then we left the tent and pursued on MAKING it Reel
Big Fish's tent. We wait by a fence,
sitting on the grass, letting the hot sun beat down on the back of our
necks. When we see Andrew leave the bus, HA! We had been right!!
So we're all excited. Every time the door would open, we'd all jump
to see who it was (not actually leaving the ground however). I don't
know WHY. But Scott decided to stay on the bus forever and a day,
but as soon as he did come out of the van, my heart skipped a beat.
It had been a FULL year and 2 days since the last time I had seen him.
I could have just cried right there, but I was too happy.
Seconds later, they are up
on stage. I'm screamin' and can't stop. I'm up in the front
except for this 2 dumb shit girls who would not move for the life of them
(that's why I kicked them a whole lot!!). Reel
Big Fish played a ton of good songs.
Half being off the new album and half being old ones, or covers.
I was a bit bummed that I didn't hear, "Say ten" seeing how I love that
song the most.
During their last song me and
my 2 friends left the pit and went over to wait at the side, this was my
moment, I was going to grab Scott as soon as he left the stage.
They come off the stage and
I yell for Scott to come over when he can. He goes under a tent and
rests a bit, putting his trumpet away. Then he instantly gets caught
up with signing things for kids down the fence from me. I'm desperate,
I need a picture!! So I'm like, "I'm going over the fence!" to my
friends. It wasn't going to bum us any of they kicked us out, we
didn't want to see anymore of the shows that day.
Aaron is closer, so I take
my best friends camera and snatch a picture with her and Aaron, who makes
a silly face. Then we move down to wear Scott is. I'm really
nervous cause I mean, it's my hero (!!) and I'm going to get a picture
with him! So I ask him if I can get a picture and he's kind of busy
still signing autographs, so I wait. Then he's ready. I put
my arm around him and rest if on his shoulder and he puts his arm around
my waist and *SNAP*!! I got a picture. I thank him dearly and
tell him how far I have traveled just to see them. I remind him that
I'm that scary girl from Minnesota who had his picture on her t-shirt and
he remembered that!! Which made me smile. Then, I said good
bye and my friends and I climb back over the sad little orange backstage
fence and leave for the day. Totally satisfied.
