Goo Goo Dolls From Seventeen July 1999 issue    By Jennifer Parris       "I used a Marshall amplifier for a pillow," says John Rzeznik. lead singer of the Goo Goo Dolls.  Before they were famous, Rzeznik, bassist Robby Takac and drummer Mike Malinin would camp out in a rickety van with all of their equipment when they traveled.
    Now life's a lot more cushy for Rzeznik & Co., thanks to the triumphant success of their double-platinum CD, Dizzy Up the Girl, plus thier three Grammy nominations.  Yet they're still logging in plentiy of road time.  AFter a spring tour across the country with the New Radicals and Fastball, the Goo Goo Dolls are bound for Europe.  Sugar Ray and FAstball will join the band when they return to the United States on July 16  for a 21-city tour that ends on September 1.  No matter which side of the Atlantic you're on, you should be able to catch the Goo Goo Dolls in concert.
    "It's such a thrill to perform live," says Rzeznik, for whom touring can still sometimes be a pain in the head.  "You never know if you're going to get hit with a bottle or a bra."
