"I think
we've made a very special record, and I
know everybody that's spent a year in the
studio feels like that, but there's a
certain clarity to this music that I
don't think we've heard for a
while."

"Because
we were mates, I suppose from the
beginning, there's a lot of real respect
and trust there between the different
members of the group. We're pretty tough
with one another.
It's not necessarily like we go into a U2
session and everyone's completely polite.
Everyone is prepared to tell
you exactly what they think when it comes
to it."
Edge |
"We went into
the record like it was Tamla-Motown. It
was an exciting record to make, and it
should be exciting to take on the
road"
Larry
"It was all about
reaching out to the audience, keeping an
open heart. We're going to have some fun,
go indoors for the first time in
years."

"We
didn't feel like rushing out
there because we wanna just spend a bit
of time figuring out what we wanna do and
give ourselves a bit of
breathing space to make some videos.
We've always hit the road pretty much
immediately and everything else
then becomes a bit of a scramble."
Edge
"We're gonna take it
easy and see how the land lies."
Larry |
"We're used
to playing with some heady concepts and
expecting everyone to weigh in there and
follow. I think
we just left people scratching their
heads a little bit. I would have to say
it's more that we didn't
communicate what we were up to very well.
We never would play down to our audience
or try to spoon-feed them. But at the
same time if you're going to
call your album 'Pop' and PopMart, those
words have got so much baggage."
Edge |

"We
knew that this was a record that was
against the odds, and that a lot of
people would be thinking, you know, U2,
they've gone all arty, and, you know,
they can live off their past now, or else
they'll come up with some esoteric idea
of the future. And we thought we gotta
really make something that feels really
present...that's not about what's
fashionable this week, but what's about
the moment you're in right now."
Bono |
"It's an
attempt to say that what made it to the
record ... is literally just the songs
that we couldn't possibly
leave off."
