Chapter 9
At lunch on Monday, Haley, Kameron, and Brian were sitting in the cafeteria.
Brain had the girls in hysterics when the school secretary came up to their table. “Brian,
you have a phone call in the office.”, she explained. “Okay, thank you.”, he said
confused. “Um..I’ll be right back.” “Is everything alright?”, Haley asked just as
confused. “I don’t know. A million thoughts were running through his head as he jogged
to the office. Were his parents alright? Was there an accident? Someone in the family
die? He exhaled and picked up the phone. “Hello?”, he said very scared. “Hey Brian!
How’s my cousin doing?”, his cousin Kevin Richardson said cheerfully. “I’m fine Kevin.
Why are you calling me from Florida in the middle of the afternoon?”, Brian asked
relaxing a little. “Okay, I am in a music group with 3 other guys. We are on an
independent record label. to make it to the big time though, we need a 5th member. You
have a great voice Brian. Will you please come to Florida and audition?”, Kevin said
very rapidly. “You’re kidding me right?”, Brian asked now smiling. Brian had always
loved to sing. “No I’m not. And...our founder...Lou Pearlman wants to pay for your
plane ticket here.”, Kevin explained. “Um..I’ll call you at at 3 when I get home okay?”
Kevin gave him the number and he jotted it down. “Bye Kevin.” “Bye Brian.” He hung
up the phone and walked back to the cafeteria. “I’m back.”, he announced as he sat
down. “Who was it?”, Kameron asked. “My cousin Kevin from Orlando. He wants me
to join a music group he is in because I have a good voice.”, Brian said really not
understanding everything that was going on. “You sing?”, Haley asked almost choking.
“Yes I sing! Don’t be so surprised! I’ve been singing since I could talk!”, he said teasing
her. “I didn’t know you sang.” “Oh, get this though. He wants me to fly down to
Orlando to audition!” “Well are you?”, Haley asked excited. “I don’t know. I have to
decide by 3 though.” “Why by 3?”, Kameron asked biting a chip. ‘Because that is when
I have to call Kevin back and let him know.”, he said taking a deep breath. “Well, I
support you in whatever you decide.”, Haley said happy for Brian. “Thank you sweetie.”,
he said stealing a quick kiss. “What should I do?”, he thought to himself.
