Chapter 16

Back at Nick's house, Theresa walked up to Nick's bedroom door. She stood there deciding whether to knock or whether to go back downstairs to where Dawn and Aaron were. 'Dawn wants to be alone with Aaron, I can't go back and stand in the way.' She straightened herself up and knocked on the door.

"Who is it??" Nick yelled.

"Umm..it's..it's me Theresa."

"Come in."

Theresa opened up the door and saw Nick sitting at his window seat starring out the window aimlessly. "Um...am I bothering you? Cause if I am..I can leave."

"Oh no, I'm not doing anything. I thought you were downstairs playing Nintendo with Dawn and Aaron?" Nick asked.

"Nah, it got boring."

"Boring? How can Nintendo get boring?" Nick asked.

"Well, Dawn and Aaron....never mind! What's wrong? You look bothered." Theresa asked.

"Nothing, nothing's wrong. I just have a lot on my mind."

"C'mon Nick, I can tell something's up, you look so...so sad."

"It's just..It's just..never mind."

"You can tell me..."

"No, I can't."

'Great, he can't even trust me.' Theresa said. "It's that Karen girl isn't it?" she asked him straight out.

"What? What are you talking about? No it isn't!"

"Yeah right," she said sarcastically, "Everytime you run into her, you become quiet and..and..she seems to get to you a lot."

"No I don't!" he yelled.

Frightened by this, Theresa quickly said with her voice trembling, "I'm...I'm sorry, I just...I just thought that...I'm sorry I'm going to leave now..." She got up and bolted for the door with tears running down her eyes.

"Wait, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snap at you. Please don't cry!"

She stopped at the door and turned around. "I'm sorry I...I just want to help. I can't see you like this."

"No, it's my fault, I don't know what's wrong with me. I'm just really confused right now. I can't really talk about it."

"Okay, I guess I was being too nosy."

"No, you weren't." Nick said. "So are you going to stay for dinner as well?" he asked trying to change the subject.

"Umm..I'll have to call my parents first. But probably."

"Good."

"So Theresa, what do you want to do?"

"I don't know, whatever you want."

"Hmmm...let's talk, get to know each other more. I know we've talked before but I'd like to get to know you more, plus we always get interrupted somehow."

"You do?"

"Yeah, I want to be good friends."

'I hope we could be more.' Theresa thought to herself. "Sure, what else do you want to know?"

"What do you do on your spare time?" Nick asked.

"I hang out with my friends and I love to go shopping. What about you?"

"Nintendo, basketball and hanging out with friends."

They continued their conversation slowly getting to know each other better and better every moment.

'God, he's so cute, I just want to kiss him.' Theresa thought.

'She's so straight forward, she's not afraid to trust me. Can I trust her with everything I say?' Nick asked himself.

Meanwhile, downstairs Aaron and Dawn were playing Mario Kart. "Man, Aaron don't you take this game seriously?" Dawn mocked.

"Shut up, I'm going to keep playing until I beat you." he said jokingly.

"You won't be able to beat me, I've already beat you 25 times in a row."

"It's beginners luck."

"Yeah that's exactly what it is..beginner's luck!" she laughed.

"Are you making fun of me?" Aaron asked offended.

"No," Dawn said giggling.

"Yes you are." Aaron grinned. "Now your going to pay."

"Why--" Dawn couldn't finish her sentence because Aaron had started tickling her. "Stop! Stop!" Dawn begged.

"Nope, heh heh, now I'm kicking your butt!" Aaron joked. "I'm not going to stop until you admit that I'm better than you and that you only have beginners luck!"

"No way cause it's not true!" Dawn added.

Aaron continued to tickle her. "Stop!" Dawn tried again.

"NOPE!" Aaron said stubbornly.

"Fine," Dawn gave up and started to try and wiggle her way out.

"Uh, uh I don't think so." He held her down and continued tickling her. "You'll never win now."

"We'll see about that." Dawn threatened. She grabbed Aaron and started to tickle him under his armpits. He couldn't help it and he started to get a ticklish feeling and was getting weak. "HA! I found your weak spot!! Now your dead!"

"Oh no!" Aaron yelled.

Dawn kept tickling him under there and now he was the one losing the battle.

"Okay, okay I give up!" he said.

"Are you sure? You have just been beaten by a girl." Dawn said. "You don't want to be know as a wuss do you?"

"Promise me you won't tell anyone." Aaron asked.

"What'll you give me in return if I promise?" Dawn said.

"My gratitude." Aaron suggested.

"No way, Carter, you can do better than that."

"What about this?" Aaron said and he leaned over and surprised Dawn with a kiss.

Dawn was definitely surprised as they slowly backed away from each other. The two starred each other in the eyes without saying a word. All the laughing and giggling turned into a serious and quiet moment. Aaron backed away looking uncomfortable, "I'm...I'm sorry, I don't know..I don't know what got into me....I shouldn't have..I've never.."

'What just happened here?' Dawn thought to herself confused. "Aaron, don't worry..."

"No, I shouldn't have.."

"Aaron, be quiet..." Dawn warned and leaned forward and kissed Aaron back feeling it's something she wanted to do in a long time, but Aaron broke the ice and now...

Meanwhile, Nick and Theresa were having the time of their lives talking and laughing as they learned things about each other. Nick was slowly beginning to trust Theresa as time went on.

"So have you ever met a superstar before?" Nick joked.

"No, I haven't, you're the first one I met personally. Plus, you're not a superstar, you're a normal every day person from what I learned." Theresa said.

"You really think that?" Nick questioned.

"Yeah, I do. I used to think that famous people are usually people who snob others who aren't of their status. I always picture that money sure does get into their head and that they could care less about people like us." Theresa explained.

"That's not true at all." Nick said offended.

"I know that now. Now that I've got to spend some time with you and the rest of the Backstreet Boys, I've seen a different side of you guys that I'm pretty sure no other fan would have seen it otherwise. I know now that you are a normal person like Dawn and I, just that we aren't making as much money as you and that you are well-known throughout the world. People like YOU teach us to go out and reach for things we LOVE to do no matter how much money is on the other end." Theresa explained herself.

'Now this girl knows what she's talking about. I'm glad she doesn't judge me as a singer, as a Backstreet Boy. She isn't that bad at all.' Nick thought. "Theresa, thank you, that is what I needed to hear. That's what I've been wanting to hear ever since I started this music business. People judge us for the wrong reasons and YOU, you just made it clear to me why I've been doing this music business in the first place....It's not the money, it's too make people understand that not ALL music stars, actors and actresses are money crazy, not "snobs" as some people label. Some people do it for the love of it and to see people happy, not for the money." Nick said relieved.

"You're welcome, Mr. Carter." Theresa smiled.

"Theresa?" Nick said looking at the ground.

"Yeah?"

Without any other word, Nick looked up and reached out to touch her face, slowly caressing it. They looked each other in the eyes and they're heads slowly moved closer and closer.....DING! DONG!

"Oh, umm..it's the doorbell," Nick quickly got up and ran down the stairs.

"What just happened here?" Theresa asked. 'I seem to be asking myself that a lot lately.' She got up and slowly followed him down the stairs.

"Hey Frack, what's up?" yelled A.J. "Where's the grub?" he said as he walked into the living room and sat on the couch.

"Hey Bone, not everyone's here yet, we'll have to wait a bit. So where's Amanda?" Nick asked.

"Oh, she'll be here later, she had some errands to do." A.J. answered. "Oh hey, Theresa, what's up?"

"Nothing," she answered.

Nick looked over and saw Theresa at the doorway. He quickly looked away. 'What am I doing? My actions upstairs..I can't explain them...How can I be so stupid? I can't let her think that I am uncomfortable now, I can't let the guys know.' He looked at her again, "Theresa, come sit down." Theresa slowly walked towards the couch.

"Are you okay, Theresa?" A.J. asked. "Has Nick been treating you badly?" he joked.

"Shut up, Bone!" Nick said.

"Oh no! It's just been a long day that's all. I've been in the sun all day remember." Theresa explained.

"Oh you were there?" A.J. asked.

"Ha, like you'd remember..you and Amanda were all over each other all day long, gee, did you guys even take a break to BREATHE?" Nick asked.

"She is great, isn't she?" A.J. admired.

At that moment, Aaron and Dawn walked in.

"Hey, where were you two?" A.J. asked.

"Playing Nintendo." Aaron said grinning slyly at Dawn.

"Yeah, playing Nintendo," Dawn agreed.

"Are you sure about that?" A.J. joked.

"Where's everyone else?" Aaron asked changing the subject.

"I think they're on their way," Nick answered.

DING! DONG!

"Here they are now." Nick said. He went to open the door. It was Kevin and Howie. "Hey where's B-Rok?"

"He's at home still getting ready." Kevin explained. "Karen's taking a shower. They'll be here shortly."

"Oh, okay." Nick said disappointed. He had forgotten about her.

As they waited for Brian, they sat around and talked, sharing stories about each other having good laughs.
