2007:

Heidi - Johanna Spyri
Dirk Gently's Hollistic Detective Agency - Douglas Adams (bits of this story need way more credit than generated by anyone I ever knew who'd read it.)
The Myth Of Laziness - Mel Levine, M.D. (Depressing for me at times because it stands as many of the exact rectifying principles I strived to get from my education, childhood and family and was hotheadedly and repeatedly denied.)
The Golden Road - L. M. Montgomery
Great Trials of Oscar Wilde - adapted by Gyle Brandreth
The Long Dark Tea Time of The Soul - Douglas Adams (Seriously... and this goes for a bit in one of the Hitchhiker books, why the HELL hasn't anyone who has read American Gods by Neil Gaiman after having read Long Dark Tea Time made ANY sort of commentary whatsoever that there was a lift between??? If Neil Gaiman wasn't such a hottie who everyone wants to touch and drool on he would have gotten attacked for the comparison. Now does that mean I'm attacking him? No, but you'd think with all the rampant critics out there whose geekdom succeeds all karmic law you'd think someone would at least MENTION the similarity... but no, no one can touch the great god that is Gaiman. Any why don't *I* attack him myself, you ask? Because I don't believe lifting/borrowing ideas is bad and I do so consistently... so what I'm bitching about here is that bitchy people need to be consistent instead of kowtowing to hero worship and fame. Thank you.)

The following is a list of books I've started but haven't gotten all the way through yet. These I've put a few commentaries on as it turns out I attempt to read many books at once and some don't get very far for me for one reason or another. Some will have fraction at the end which signify which page I'm on and how many are in the book. If the titles disappear it will mean I have completed the book. As for commentary for the read books... ouch. Maybe someday, but not today.

Captain Cook Explores South Seas - Sperry

Celtic Myths & Legends - Charles Squire:

[This is HUGE. I read a bit at a time. Enough said.]

Christmas Entertainments/Round About Our Coal Fire 1740:

[This is extremely cool. I found out about Pryor Publications a year ago. They specialize in reprinting very old stuff so you don't have to go about hunting down expensive copies that are so old they're fall to dust in your hands. The description says: "Wherein is described abundance of fiddle-faddle stuff, rawheads, bloody-bones, buggybows, and such like horrible bodies; eating, drinking, kissing & other diversions; witches, wizards, conjurers and their merry pranks; fairies, specters, ghosts and apparitions; a right merrie tale:- the story of Jack Spriggins and The Enchanted Bean; Curious Memoirs of Old Father Christmas." When I saw it in the catalogue I thought, "Nightmare Before Christmas back in the day!" Well, not exactly. It's been a little difficult to comprehend because the English is so different, but I think I'll get hooked to it when the Holidays really get here.]

Crazy English - Richard Ledherer.

BR>

Don Quixote - Cervantes

The Gift - Vladimir Nabokov.

Glory - Vladimir Nabokov.

The Golden Age - Kenneth Grahame.

A Happy Life - Alfred Wetherby:

[This book is one hundred years old. One has very little to go on but the dialogue and that won't describe the characters. Some day... (Shouldn't it grammatically be titled AN happy life?)]

The Knowledge Web - James Burke:

[NOT James LEE Burke! There are many books by the latter and hardly anyone seems to have heard of the former. James Burke is absolutely brilliant. Of course, his television programs are quite easier on the head.]

On The Edge of Dream - Jennifer Heath:

[This is quite splendid. Again I've read it in parts and mean to go through it cover to cover. It is basically long versions of the stories involving mythic Irish women and Goddesses.]

The Real Life of Sebastian Knight - Vladimir Nabokov:

[Interesting. Not sure what to make of it. I guess I should just enjoy the words. It's actually a bit derived from having a perpetually lost friend named Sebastian King. If only I could write something along the same lines. I think I might know him as much as the protagonists knows his own brother.]

The Story of Alice - Mavis Batey:

[This is a book about the Alice In Wonderland girl, Alice Pleasance Liddle, and her relationship with the fictional character we've all come to adore.]

Vurt - Jeff Noon:

[This is pretty trippy, but I'm having trouble following it. I'm getting close, though.]

Winter Tales - Isak Dinesen:

[Her stories are very different from anything I've ever read, I must say. Sometimes I'm not sure what the description has been. I've basically read a single story in the book. That's why it made it to this list.]
