1) TWIN WHAT?
Twin Peaks. Tuesdays at 9PM on the extra-terrestrial (in every sense) Sci Fi Channel
2) WHAT IS TWIN PEAKS?
It's the show created by David Lynch and Mark Frost that was not only a masterpiece in its own right, but paved the way for other shows such as The X-Files, Wild Palms, American Gothic and anything weird you've seen on TV in the past decade. Apart from Sunset Beach, obviously. It was originally screened in 1990 and ran for one short series followed by the longer, weirder, second season. There were 30 episodes in total. It ended on what appeared to be a cliffhanger, and frustratingly a third series was never made. Yet watching it again, it's increasingly obvious that the clues are laid out from the start. You just have to be watching closely...
The top-knotch cast brought together a host of well-known and fast-rising stars, many of whom you have seen on the big screen, including Madchen Amick (Dream Lover), David Duchovny (X-Files, Kalifornia), Piper Laurie (Carrie) and of course Kyle McLachlan (Blue Velvet).
3) WHY SHOULD I WATCH IT?
Do you like television? The score is by the sublime Angelo Badalamenti. The cast reads like a who's who of brilliant US and Canadian actors. Twin Peaks was, quite simply, the scariest, funniest, weirdest, most thought-provoking and hair-raising series in televisual history. It could give you nightmares and reduce to you fits of giggles, often at the same time.
