I am writing this letter to wholeheartedly recommend Scott Smith as a professional technical writer. Scotts work here at Apple has earned him an excellent reputation among the Systems Architecture groups as a dedicated worker who sets high standards and maintains them with integrity.
I was most impressed with Scott's willingness and ability to train Teresa Murdock to take over his position after his contract ended. It is rare to find a technical professional who not only practices what he preaches, but can also teach what he practices.
Scott has set a standard for us here at Apple that we will be hard-pressed to maintain. He personally supervised the editing and revision of all 600 pages of the VITAL Technical Architecture Guide. It is obvious to me that, despite the highly complex nature of the material contained therein, he understands the implications of every word. Scott is a rare talent, and we are sorry to see him leave.
