We'll Leave The Light On For You

CHAPTER 1

So anyway here I was with this person who I didn’t even know…and there was nothing that I could do to get to know her. She was in a coma; thank God I could say that I wasn’t in her shoes…anymore. I have been in a coma for a few weeks and let me tell you it was really weird. I mean, there were all these dreams with people that I knew of but had never met. Have you ever been in that situation before? Where you know that you know someone, but when it gets right down to it you have no idea who they are? Well, I was there. It was with this guy named Luke, and we had to do something before we could leave…but the problem was that I couldn’t figure out what it was that I had to do…or who this Luke guy was and why I was with him and this group called…. Umm…I used to know this, I really did. I think they were called The Moffatts, but I’m not sure. Or maybe it was the Muffetts…. Either way, we were with them and we had to help them do something…it’s really blurry now, but the doctor said that I should try to figure it out. So I’m writing away at this blank piece of paper hoping to remember exactly what happened in my dream.

If I try really hard I can remember having to help the Moffatts learn something that both Luke and I both already knew. Something about not taking life for granted. Now that I think about it, I can remember a little more than what I could when I began writing this.

It was the first day of my new life with my dad and step-mom. We had just moved to this new house in Canada, and I remember that there was a lot of space. I had my own room; something that I had never had the pleasure of when we lived in Spring Field, Missouri. I was really excited about it and the whole move itself.

The move had meant a new beginning for my whole family, it meant no more cramped spaces in bedrooms, no more fighting for, me and my sister, over getting the bathroom before our brothers could take over and mess everything up. Yep, it meant a lot of things including new friends. The first day that we made it to the new house, a girl asked us if we wanted to go to some sort of concert with her that night, to see some of her friends play. I said yes right away, and was planning to go.

First my twin sister, Cassie, and I had to go and get some things that we needed for our room. We had our older brother, Michia, drive us. I don’t remember exactly what happened yet, that still hasn’t come to me, but I remember something hitting my side of the car and hitting my head on the window. Cassie told me that the car flipped and she landed on top of me, making my head hit the glass, but I don’t remember it that way so I don’t blame her. Cass, broke her arm, and Michia, and Dax, my other brother, both hit their heads on the dashboards, even though they were wearing their seatbelts. The air bag apparently broke two of Michia’s ribs and Dax has a wrinkled bone from where he braced himself when we hit. Cassie told me all of that when I saw the two of them earlier this morning.

I remember waking up, (or so I thought) and being in a hotel room. I didn’t remember any reason for being there so it kinda scared me. You can only imagine my shock when I saw this guy in the other bed….

Okay, okay, so I’m laying here in this weird hospital room, listening to this weird guy tell me that I’ve been in a coma. Don’t get me wrong it’s not that I don’t believe him; it’s just that I think that I would know if I had been in a coma for the past…um…well I don’t know how long I’ve been here to be honest with you! But I’m sure that if I could remember right now you would believe me. I haven’t been in a coma, I’ve been in well, I’ve been everywhere, with this amazing girl named…um…Adealia! But she didn’t like to be called that; her preference was Dealia, or Red, as I liked to call her. Yea! I was with her and this band I think that they were called the Moffatts? Yea, that was it, The Moffatts and Dealia, and we traveled everywhere, not with them they just seemed to show up in the places where…Sam…. wait a minute, I think I remember something. Maybe I was in a coma! But then how could I have…and how did-? Wait, I remember, after my sister hit that other car with those people in it I hit my head on the windshield!

My sister was driving me to the mall, so that I could meet my best friend, and we were going to look for hot girls…but let not get into that part of it. I finally talked my sister into driving me to the mall after paying her 20 bucks for gas…man she is a weirdo. Then I remember she wanted something to eat (she’s always like that, deciding to do something at the last minute, just to make me mad), so we had to stop at McDonalds. I don’t remember what she got, but I do remember that I had to pee. (Not that that has to do with anything, it’s just something that happen to remember). We got out on the road and had to go around the scenic root, so that we could get to the mall. Tracy kept complaining that the traffic was to bad to go the other way. I never did like going to long way, it was really curvy and in cold weather like we get sometimes, it’s not really that safe. No I’m not some sort of wimp; I just don’t like that way. I get kinda carsick. (Doc, if you read this and tell anyone that I’m never coming back to you again).

We were driving and suddenly this cat jumped out in front of us, my sister is this big animal lover, so she swerved to avoid hitting it. I swear, sometimes she is such an idiot. This was one of those times. She must not have been paying attention to the other lane, because the last thing I remember from there with her, was her screaming my name and then blackness… I woke up in this hotel room to Dealia-yes! This was when she came in-looking at me from the other bed with this look on her face that I’ll never forget for as long as I live. I thought for a second that she was going to scream in terror, but (as I learned later) that wasn’t her style so she just gave me this what-the-heck-do –you-think-you’re-doing-here? Look. I looked at her…she was the most beautiful thing that I had ever seen in my entire life… Suddenly the guy, (by the way this was Luke, I’m not crazy doc) woke up and looked at me. I was terrified but I knew that I couldn’t let him know, so I just looked at him like he was invading my space. Finally he spoke up.

“Who are you and what am I doing here?” very intelligent question, just wish I knew the answer.

“I’m Adealia, don’t you dare call me that though, call me Dealia.” Was all I could answer. I finally realized that this guy was really hot…

“Okay Dealia, I’m Luke, and judging by the look on your face you have no idea why we’re here either?” he said…very sharp kid.

“ No neither one of you know why you are here.” A voice with an accent that I couldn’t quite place, said from the bathroom. A guy with long black hair and a goatee came out of the bathroom zipping up his fly. My first impression was a biker, guessing by what he was wearing. He had on tight black jeans and a Harley Davidson tee shirt and a faded leather jacket. He was really buff and looked like he needed a bath. However, as he walked closer to us, I noticed that he smelled awesome. For some reason it reminded me of back home, well to say the least judging by his appearance I would have never guessed what he said next.

“You guys neither one know why you’re here. See there’s been a big mix-up in heaven, and apparently you weren’t supposed to be in that wreck, and neither one of you are supposed to be here now. But since it ain’t your time to die God is putting both of you in a coma for the time being. However, to sort of pay for that favor you both have to do a –ahem- good deed. I’m your guardian angel and I was on the toilet while the wreck happened, sorry. So now while you are here, I’ll be here guarding you, the name is Sam, and yadda, yadda, yadda, you both know that whole spiel.” Sam said taking a chair from the desk and sitting in it backwards. Luke spoke up before I could.

“What do you mean a favor? What is it? When can we go home, and why the heck couldn’t you have held it till we go out of the car?” Luke said all in a rush…I was starting to like this hottie. “Okay, I can see that you aren’t just going to go with this so here it is. I’m Samuel, your guardian angel since birth. I was supposed to be watching the both of you but I had to go and so I did and when I got back the Boss was mad. So I says what! And God says you was supposed to be watching them! Look what happened, now what are we gonna do. It ain’t their time yet! We gotta think of something and fast!

Then I remembered these other kids that some of the angels have been talking about for a while now. They got a lesson to learn, and both of you know how to teach it to em…you just got to figure out what it is. When you do that, you can go home.” Sam said, with a look that apparently said he wasn’t enjoying his punishment.

Luke looked at me. I looked at Luke. So we’re stuck, both of us clearly thought the same thing. “Great!” I said sarcastically, I wasn’t in the mood for all of this, really I wasn’t. “so is there anything that you can tell us? Like where we’re supposed to start? And when you will be there to help us out a little?” I asked.

“Look, girly, I don’t think that you should be talking like that to your gaurdian angel, or else I might decide to use the bathroom again at a key moment!” he said angrily( I think that it was then that I was able to place his accent as sounding like a Brooklyn Gangster) getting up out of his chair and shaking his finger in my face.

Suddenly a loud burst of thunder sounded, and the lights flickered. Sam looked up. “okay, okay,” he said, “I’ll be nicer, man just kewl it!”

He turned back to me. “All I can tell you is that you are supposed to go to the room at the end of the hall. Knock on it and tell the guy that answers it your names. Tell him that you are there for the interview you are supposed to have with his sons. He’ll instruct you to their rooms, and you go there. When it’s time for them to move on, you’ll be asked to go with them. GO! I’ll be there when you need me, you’ll know it.”

“When do we go?” I asked him.

“You’ll know. For now I suggest that you try to get some sleep, it’s gonna be hard for you to after you get into this mission.” With that, Sam got up and walked into the bathroom, closing the door. There was a burst of thunder and a flash and everything was quiet.

Luke looked at me. “Well, I guess that’s it huh?”

“Yep,” was all that I could say. Suddenly it hit me. This wasn’t going to be easy.
