Chico DeBarge started his career in the late ?80s. He wrote the song ?You wear it well? for DeBarge?s Rhythm of the night LP. Shortly following that he was featured on a rendition of the ?60s classic ?Easier said than done? on the soundtrack for the Blake Edwards film ?A fine mess". In 1987 chico released his first self-titled album 'Chico DeBarge'. The single 'Talk to me' was a top 10 Hit.
His career was brought to a halt when he was sentence to prison for 5 yrs. The charge was a
conspiracy to sell drugs. Chico learned from the experience and was determine to resume his
singing career. After being released from prison he was signed to LaFace Records. After a
disagreement on what direction he should take musically, he left the label. While writing and
producing songs for Erykah Badu, Kedar Messenger signed Chico to his record label KEDAR. His
album 'Long time No see' released in 1997 has sold over 1 million copies. With his silky voice and sensual ballads. Chico is one of the pioneers of neo soul sound. The songs 'Iggin Me' and 'Love still good' are soul classics.
Kedar records has merged with Motown. Chico?s CD 'The Game' released 1999 on Motown Records. He teamed up with singers Bobby Brown, Joe and his big brother El Debarge and Mother Etterlene. The CD showed his growth as an artist.
2001 Chico left Motown records. He surprised his fans by co-starring in the gospel play. Chico has his own indie label and plan to release a CD in the near future.
