The Malamute has a large, musular body. Weather-resistant coat is thick, heavy, and medium length. They shed year around, and quite a bit more because of the undercoat. They require frequent brushing. The color may be black and white, red and white, and gray and white, with an off white undercoat.
This breed is friendly and good natured. Then again also stubborn. Not that good of a watch dog. This breed is usually good with friends and children. It does have a high prey drive and will show aggression towards other dogs. Can be very challenging and not to cooperative. Due to the size, dominance, and aggression toward animals. Early training is a must. Malamute is very vocal and can be destructive if not exercised daily. Remember this dog is in the working group, and needs to be worked. When at play with children the Malamute will be gentle not to hurt the child or knock the child down, but rough housing is not tolerated with this breed. So older children are recomended. It is rare that this breed wil become aggressive toward people. If this should happen though, Malamutes are capable of serious damage within a couple of seconds. If this behavior occurs it is almost impossible to modify. Will usually end with destruction of the animal. These breeds eat quite alot and love the winter.
If you choose this breed. Make sure you have a large fenced in yard. So it can run, but the Malamute shouldn't run long distances. Also, it is recomended not to have any small pets in the smae house as the Malamute. |
