Reception Reports

Three-dot journalism, without all those irritating dots.

Updated November 17, 2000

OUR WBCQ BROADCASTS continue, and it appears we now have a reliable weekly signal to Europe on 7415 kHz at 0000 hours, Saturday morning. We QSL all valid reception reports, and are always interested in reception wherever you are in the world. Our "Reception Reports" page has all the information you need to QSL The Scream.

KUDOS, JOHN SEDLACEK, of Omaha, Nebraska! John sent us a tape of both weekly broadcasts of The Scream. John - who is in the crosshairs of both WRMI and WBCQ -- sent us a cassette aircheck of both signals, which was very helpful. Thanks very much for that, John.

HANS-JOACHIM KOCH of Germany has been sending his loggings to us for awhile, now, and we also thank him for that. Old JR is jealous of all the Europirates Hans-Joachim regularly logs. Those of you west of the Rockies know how hard it is to pick up such things out here.

THE COMBINATION OF WRMI in Miami, Florida and WBCQ in Monticello, Maine gives Screamers the best opportunity to hear our program with good reception at convenient times. And if that weren't enough, we continue to do occasional relays of The Scream via IRRS/Radio 510 International from Milan, Italy. Our next relay will be around Christmas, so watch this space for details!

OUR "ROCK REVIVAL" program airs Friday night on WBCQ, and Saturday night on WRMI. We'll be updating our playlist and our "Liner Notes" columns for those who want more detail on this program, which we think is one of the best this year. Hopefully, we'll complete this in a few days, or MAYBE by the time you read this.

SPEAKING OF MUSIC, a lot of the great collectables you hear on The Scream are from Brooks' Novelty Antiques and Records in Old Town Sacramento. Steven "Brooksy" Brooks has tens of thousands of singles and LPs from the golden era of vinyl in all genres. You can reach them at 1-916-443-0783. Their FAX number is 1-916-444-6069. If you'd like to mail a want list to them, their address is:

Brooks Novelty Antiques and Records
1107 Firehouse Alley
Sacramento, California, 95814
U.S.A.

AND IF PINBALL is one of your passions, check with them about Brooks's selection of antique machines, as well as vintage radios, slot machines, jukeboxes and other whatnot. They also stock collectable poster art as well. Donna and I love this place, and you will, too!

OLD TOWN SACRAMENTO is a beautiful riverfront area adjacent to the Capital Mall. It is truly a beautiful setting, and it's filled with shops, restaurants and nightclubs. It's also near the Railroad Museum which is a fascinating place to visit. In Oldtown Sac, you can catch a ride on a vintage train, or take a dinner cruise on the Sacramento River. Sports fans may have seen scenic shots of Old Sac during the NBA playoffs last year. Just across the river from Old Sac, Raley Field is the home of the Rivercats. The team is the AAA affiliate of the Oakland A's, and their new ballpark is considered by many to be the finest AAA facility in the U.S. And no, this plug was not placed by the Convention and Visitors Bureau -- although that's not a bad idea. We're just proud of the place.

UNIVERSAL RADIO SPONSORS The Scream on WRMI. Fred Osterman has a great selection of radio gear for scanner enthusiasts, Amateur Radio operators, and shortwave listeners. Take a look at their online catalog, or send to them directly for the hardcopy version at:

Universal Radio
6830 American Parkway
Reynoldsburg, Ohio 43068
U.S.A.

IF YOU ENCLOSE $3 U.S. Universal will ship your catalog via Priority Mail, and you'll get it in 2 or 3 days. Also, check out their used equipment list, which has great bargains for those of us on a tight budget.

THAT'S ALL, FOLKS! 73's from Donna, Penny and JR.
