On Any Given Day

Cheyenne Chase had always wanted to be like her older sister, Dakota Chase, a singer living in Orlando. She had always wanted to be a singer. People always told her she had a wonderful voice. And the only thing in the world she wanted was a record contract. But, Dakota reached that dream first. Cheyenne was still in high school. Her father, David Chase, had strict rules on his daughters and their dreams. His big rule was whatever you want to do, wait until after you've graduated. Dakota Chase lives in Orlando. She is a popular local singer. She is working on her first album and is signed with Virgin records. Dakota was three years older than her younger twin sisters, Cheyenne and Sierra.
Cheyenne envied Dakota so much. Dakota was definitely the most blessed one in the family. She was a tall blonde with beautiful long legs and a perfect body. She had the greatest voice, the best looks, and the best body in the family. Cheyenne envied her so much more than anyone knew. For the most exceeding reason, because her father always paid more attention to Dakota. Cheyenne had no self-esteem for herself. She saw herself as an ugly little troll deserving to live under a bridge. She began to devise a plan. A plan to be pretty. She began to skip meals. Not so many at first, but she missed enough to make a difference. But, after that wasn't helping her lose enough at a time, she began to skip more and to over exercise. Over the course of a year, Cheyenne went from a healthy one hundred and twenty pounds girl to a sickly eighty- seven pounds girl. Pretty soon, she was going straight and so much that she collapsed as she was exercising. Her father had rushed her to the hospital. There, he found out she was anorexic. They sent her away to a clinic for almost six months. Cheyenne knew deep down that it was for the best, but it didn't stop her from resenting her father for sending her there. To this day, she wouldn't talk to him. Now, Cheyenne was a seventeen-year-old girl and still a lot underweight. She weighted one hundred pounds now. But enough of that, back to our story.
"So, Chey, How is Brian?" Sierra asked, inquiring about Cheyenne's best friend, Brian Littrell. "Um, well, he's out of town for a couple of days. He's in New Jersey visiting family. I miss him though." Throughout her whole ordeal with the anorexia, Brian had been the only one she could talk to. He was the only one that wrote her the whole time she was away. "Oh, well, this coming from the guy who says everyone in his family is a southern belle? Well, I'll have to remind him of that next time…" Sierra said. She pulled onto a highway. "Sierra, where are we going? I thought you said we were catching a movie." "Oh, we are. Not here, though." Sierra had her mischievous smile on her face. "Where Sierra?" "Just chill out Cheyenne. You're safe." "Where Sierra?" "In Florida." Sierra looked over momentarily at Cheyenne with her mysterious smile.
"Are you NUTS? We can't go to Florida!" Cheyenne stated. "Yes, and yes we can. What is stopping us Cheyenne?" "Sierra, turn the car around, we have to go home. Dad will kill us!" "Oh Cheyenne, I know you feel as if you have to please him for forever, but come on, loosen up. Have some fun, in the sun, with me, in FLORIDA!" "Sierra, I do not feel like I have to please him! I don't like him. Just, if we're leaving, let's go." Cheyenne says as she turns up the B.I.G song louder. "Now, that's the sister I like! We're on our way girl!" Sierra shouted over the radio. The two girls shared a quick smile and began singing along to the song.
"Oh, this sun is so great! This beach is awesome!" Cheyenne exclaimed as they lay out in the sun on the virtually deserted beach. "Oh, yes, you got that right sister. So, ain't ya glad I talked you into coming with me?" "Yes, that is I am until I hear the first time dad yells." Cheyenne said. Sierra laughed at her sister's joke. They enjoyed making fun of their father together. After all, what was there not to make fun of? The man was a great looking guy in his early forties but never dated. Their mother, Jianna Spencer Chase, died when the girls were three. They didn't know her well enough to really let it hit hard. That is, until teenage years. That is when they needed her the most. But they learned to deal without her. After all, they had their sister for anything they needed. "Dad needs to go out and have a life. He worries about everything too much. Maybe he should get a girlfriend!" Cheyenne exclaimed. "Yuck, Cheyenne do you have to bring up such gross topics?" Sierra asked. "Sierra, it is not a gross topic. Its life. Dad needs one. I know who I could set him up with!" Cheyenne's mind was reeling with ideas.
Two Days Later: (Back home in KY)
The phone in the living room rang. Jackie Littrell answered it. "Hello?" She breathed. "Hi. Ms. Jackie, its Cheyenne." "Oh, hi Cheyenne. I'm sorry, Brian isn't home yet." "To tell the truth Ms. Jackie, I wanted to talk to you. You see, my father wanted to ask you something, but he is so shy." "What's that honey?" "He wanted to ask you out to supper on Friday night." "As in a date?" "Yes ma'am. Do you want to?" Cheyenne asked. "Um, How could I refuse? What time will he pick me up?" "He said for you to meet him at Shea Josephine's. At 7:00 p.m. okay?" Cheyenne asked. "All right honey. Tell him I'll be there with bells on." Jackie said. "Bye Ms. Jackie." They hung up the phone and Cheyenne felt as if she were about to do back handsprings.
"I can't believe we're fixing to be brother and sister in like twenty minutes." Cheyenne said to Brian. "Cheyenne, come here, I need to tell you something." Brian said, motioning her to follow him around behind the church. They walked back there. "What is it Brian?" Cheyenne promptly asked him. Without saying a word, Brian caught Cheyenne by surprise and scooped her into a kiss. This wasn't your normal everyday brother-sister kiss, either. This was deep, and full of unreleased passion flowing through the two of them. To say that Cheyenne did not enjoy the kiss is a total lie. She loved it, every second of it. Finally, they broke away. "Brian, um, what was with that?" Cheyenne asked. "It was a kiss." "Duh, I knew that, why did that occur?" "It's something I have wanted to do to you ever since we first saw each other when we were like 13. I'm sorry, I just had to know what it was like before we had this wedding…" Brian replied. "Was it good?" Cheyenne asked. "It was incredi…" Before Brian could finish his sentence, Cheyenne pulled his face to hers and kissed him passionately. It was the most passionate kiss either of them had ever experienced. Cheyenne parted her lips and allowed Brian to slip his tongue in and circle hers. She returned the kiss with as much, if not more, passion as Brian put into it. When the kiss ended, they were both speechless. "Oh, my gosh, I don't think we can let this happen again." Cheyenne said. "Why?" Brian asked. "Why? Because my father and your mom will be marrying in like fifteen minutes. That's why. We'll be like brother and sister or something." Cheyenne said. Just as Brian opened his mouth to reply, the bells to the church began to dong. That was their sign they had to get in the church rooms and take their places.
An Hour Later:
"You may now kiss your bride." The Pastor announced. Mr. Chase and Ms. Littrell, Now Mrs. Chase kissed. They looked almost as passionate as Brian and Cheyenne had earlier, Brian concluded. Brian was Mr. Chase's best man. And Cheyenne was his mom's Matron of Honor. "I now pronounce Mr. and Mrs. David Chase." The Pastor announced to the roar of applause.
That Night:
"Brian, Cheyenne, Sierra, the house is all yours. Now, I'll tell you now, Jackie and I trust you to do the right thing. Please don't throw too big of a party. And if you feel the absolute need to throw a party, please do it in the basement." David Chase told his daughter and stepson as he and his bride entered into the limousine the kids had rented him and their mom and step-mom to take them to the airport. "No need to worry, Mr. Chase, these girls are in great hands. I won't let them get into too much trouble." Brian said with a mischievous grin. "Oh no you don't, seems to my recollection that the last time these two threw a party, it was your idea. And someone threw a football and broke my favorite vase. Now, Cheyenne, keep these two in line, okay? We'll be back in three weeks." "Okay daddy, we love you." Sierra said. Cheyenne nodded. Brian said "Bye." And with that, the limousine pulled out and off to the airport.
Cheyenne woke up from a horrible dream. In her dream, people were breaking into her house and were killing Brian and Sierra. She sat straight up and decided immediately to go check on them. She looked in on Sierra, who was sleeping like a baby. She walked downstairs to Brian's room and walked in quietly. She couldn't see very well. She walked right into the corner of his waterbed. "Ouch!" She nearly screamed it out and Brian shot up with a bolt. "Who's there?" He asked as he switched on the light. "It's me, Cheyenne. I didn't mean to wake you up." "Its all right. What do you need?" Brian asked. Cheyenne noticed he was wearing nothing but a pair of silk boxers and a smile. "Um, I had a bad dream." "Oh, poor baby, do you wanna sleep in here tonight?" Brian said jokingly. "Actually, yes. I do. Can I?" Cheyenne said, totally serious. "Are you joking?" Brian said. "No. Can I?" "Yeah, sure you can, anytime you want to." Brian scooted over to the other side of the bed. He straightened out the blankets. When Cheyenne was settled in, he switched off the lights. Brian was surprised that immediately, Cheyenne wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him, just like at the wedding. It was a shock. Brian pulled back. "I thought you said this couldn't happen again?" "I say a lot of stupid things don't I?" Cheyenne said. "Are you sure you're ready to take our relationship to the dating level?" Brian asked her. "100% sure. I've wanted you for so long, now I have you." She reached in and kissed him. Once again, allowing his tongue to enter her mouth and work its magic. They made out like this for the longest time. Then they were both so tired they fell asleep in each other's arms.
In The Morning:
Cheyenne woke up in Brian's arms. She looked up at his sleeping face. His light brown hair was going in every direction but he looked like a sleeping koala bear. Cheyenne reached up and kissed him lightly on the lips. One of his eyes popped open, but he pretended to be asleep still. Cheyenne, noticing he was still asleep, reached up to kiss him once more. When she did, Brian pounced up and on top of her with a thud. "Ugh!" Cheyenne let out the muffled whimper. "Oops, sorry." Brian said with a smile as he reached down and kissed her passionately. They kissed and kissed and kissed some more. Before long, Brian's hands were traveling up Cheyenne's nightgown and playing with the elastic to her underwear. He managed to get them off and sling them to the ground without her even noticing. He moved up to her bra. The clasp was very hard to open. Cheyenne felt him playing with the clasp and moaned a muffled "no". Brian mistook this for the word "go". He quickly slid her nightgown over her head and nearly gasped. The sight of her frail body would have been enough, but all over her breasts and stomach, there were jagged scars. Brian stopped. "Cheyenne, what is this?" He asked her. "What is what?" Cheyenne asked. "These scars? And you're not eating again are you?" Cheyenne looked up at him. "The scars are from a long time ago Brian. Don't worry about them." Cheyenne said. "No, I want to know where they came from." "Brian, there are some things I have never told you. I used to be a cutter, you know what that is right?" Brian nodded and she continued, "I used to be one and I've tried to commit suicide three times." Brian gasped. He slid his arms around her and held her tightly. "Now have you been eating lately?" Brian asked her. "Yes! Brian, I have been eating. I always eat." Cheyenne lied. "Cheyenne, don't lie to me. I can't help you if you lie to me." Brian said. "Brian, I'm not lying to you." Cheyenne lied again. "Fine then, let's go get some breakfast." Brian said as he noticed the fear in her eyes. "No, I want to just lay here in your arms. We'll get food later, okay?" "No, I'm hungry now. I'm going to go get some food. You're coming with me." Brian said as he threw her shirt and underwear back to her. She replaced them and with hesitation, walked out of the room into the kitchen with him.
"Breakfast is ready!" Brian called to Cheyenne from the kitchen. Cheyenne was sitting in the living room watching Saturday morning cartoons. I don't want to go in there, Cheyenne thought to herself. But I have to or Brian will never believe or trust me again. She walked into the kitchen, with a frown on her face as she saw all the food Brian had made. There was bacon, eggs, sausage, a couple of breakfast burritos, sausage gravy and biscuits. Cheyenne didn't know how she'd do it, but she would probably manage to eat it. Lately, she'd gone back to her normal self, starving herself each day. The last time she'd eaten was about seven months ago. She was 65lbs. Now and her desired weight was 55lbs. As she looked at the vast array of food on the table, and at Brian's proud smile, she couldn't help but tell him the truth. "Brian, we need to talk." Cheyenne said plainly. The smile on Brian's face disappeared slowly. "What about?" Brian said. "Me." Cheyenne said as she led him into the living room. "Look, Brian, A lot has changed in us. I mean, first off, a year and a half ago, if you would have asked me if you'd be living in my house and our parents were married, I would have looked at you like you were nuts. I have changed, too, Brian. I know you're going to hate me when I say this, but I haven't exactly changed for the better. You know what, nevermind all this, let's just go get you something to eat, okay?" Cheyenne said. "No, wait, how have you changed?" Brian asked her. "I don't want to have sex until I'm sure of the right person." Cheyenne lied. "Oh, is that all? It's okay baby. I understand. Now lets go eat." They walked into the kitchen and sat down at the table. Brian made Cheyenne's plate and she looked at the food placed before her with disgust. Sure, it looked like it was well prepared and tasty, but she didn't want to eat it. It was her worst enemy. "Let's say grace." Brian said as he grabbed her hands and said the blessing. "Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for the day you've given us and thank you for the food you've prepared us. And for all the blessings you've given us, we thank you. Please bless our day and may our relationship be filled with total truth and honesty. Amen." Brian said as he looked up. Cheyenne was crying. "What's wrong honey?" He asked her. "Brian, I'm so completely sorry. I lied to you. I am so sorry…" She was sobbing now. Brian took her in his arms. "Shhh… It's okay. What did you lie about baby?" "I, I haven't been eating." "For how long?" He asked her, his eyes were filled with loads of concern. "Um, 7 months." Cheyenne looked up to see a tear in Brian's eyes. "Why? Why do you do this? You're so skinny. You aren't healthy and if you keep this up, you'll die. You just don't understand, do you?" He stood up, his tears now freely falling. He walked into his room and locked the door. Cheyenne walked into her father's study. She reached into his top drawer and pulled out the emergency cash he'd left for them just in case they needed it. She pulled out the phone book and found the circled number for her old clinic. She called it. "Hello? This is Freemond Eating Disorder Clinic, how may I help you?" A woman answered. "I need to speak to Doctor Anderson." "Hold please." The woman said. A minute or two later, the doctor picked up. "Hello? Dr. Anderson speaking." "Dr. Anderson, this is Cheyenne Chase." "Oh, hello Cheyenne, how are you?" The nice lady asked her. "I'm not so good, doctor. I need to come back. And now." "When is the last time you ate, Cheyenne?" "Seven months ago." "Oh, God. How much do you weigh?" "Um, last I checked was 65lbs. I'm so very sorry, this time, I plan on stopping it." Cheyenne said. "When are you coming?" Dr. Anderson said. "Today. As soon as I write my family a letter letting them know, then I'm gone." "Cheyenne, what made you decide to do this?" "Well, I told my boyfriend, Brian, I still had the problem about twenty minutes ago. Then he stood up and started crying and said pretty much that I was hurting him. I can't do this, and I'm bound to change." "Okay honey, come on in." Dr. Anderson said. "Bye, doctor Anderson. Thanks, I'll see you in about an hour." They hung up and Cheyenne pulled out a piece of stationery from her dad's drawer. She wrote:
Dear family:
I'm so sorry for this. But, I have to leave. If you'd like to know where I'm going, I'll be at the Clinic. I had to let you guys know before I left. To Brian: I am so sorry, you're my best friend (and b.f.) and I am so sorry for hurting you. I did this for you and I. I will come back and you'll see that I finally changed. To Daddy: Dad, I'm so sorry for this. This time I admit, I have a problem. I'm going to go get it fixed. When I come back, I'll be changed. I promise. Please don't be mad. To Sierra: Hey, Here's another I'm sorry. Please forgive me. And keep Brian on the right track and don't let him forget about me. That's a long story. Anyhow, keep mom and dad in line. And don't wreck the car. I love you sister. I love all of you, and I'll come home as soon as I'm totally well. Please, no one write me. I think I need to forget the past to work on the future. I love you guys. Bye.
Love,
She took the letter and hung it to the refrigerator. And with that, Cheyenne said goodbye to the house. How long she'd be gone, Cheyenne didn't know. She got in her green Dodge Ram and prepared to leave. She cranked the truck up and drove off.
Back At Home:
Brian walked out of his room, in search of Cheyenne. As he did, Sierra walked down the stairs sleepily. Brian looked at her and wondered why she'd slept so late. "Hey Brian. Good morning." Sierra said. "Hey. Have you seen Cheyenne?" "Nope. Sorry, just got up." "Oh, well, she's not anywhere down here, she must be up there somewhere." Brian said. "Brian, have you been crying?" Sierra asked him. "Um, no." Brian lied. "Oh, okay." She reached to open the door to the refrigerator to get some O.J. and saw the letter. She read it and gasped. "Brian! Come here quickly!" Brian came in and she handed him the letter. He read it and began to quietly cry.
A year later:
"Brian! Sierra! Come see!" David Chase yelled upstairs to Brian and Sierra who
were in the den watching television.
Brian and Sierra ran downstairs. They went to the front door and there stood
Cheyenne.
Sierra nearly jumped on her.
"Oh, sis, you're home!" Sierra exclaimed. The two shared a sisterly hug. Then,
seeing Brian's face, Sierra let go.
Brian took this an opportunity to get his hug. He reached around Cheyenne and
hugged her so tightly that she could barely breathe.
"I missed you so much!" He exclaimed.
"I missed you more…" Cheyenne said.
They released from their long hug. Cheyenne stood in front of her parents and
the others and modeled. She spun around and showed off her new figure.
"How much do you weigh now honey?" David asked her.
"One hundred and fifteen pounds. I feel great!" Cheyenne exclaimed.
"That's wonderful honey. I'm so happy that you're back. Do you want to go get
some ice cream with us?" David asked.
"No thanks, I just want to enjoy being home for today. I'm really tired. Plus,
it's really late, I need sleep." Cheyenne said. In reality, she just wanted to
go see Brian in his room as soon as the others went to their rooms.
"Okay honey. Well, if you're not going, Jackie and I will. Sierra, do you want
to come?" David asked.
"Sure dad. See ya later Cheyenne." Sierra said as they walked out of the door.
As soon as the car pulled out, Cheyenne turned around and literally jumped on
Brian. She wrapped her legs around his stomach and kissed him passionately. When
the kiss ended, and Brian regained his composure, they sat down and talked.
"So what was it like where you went?" Brian asked.
"It was great. And I learned to love myself. And that I didn't have to impress
anyone." Cheyenne said with a smile.
" That's wonderful honey. I'm so glad you're home. And just in time for
Christmas. I have missed you so incredibly much." Brian said.
"I missed you, too. Everyday, when I just wanted to leave, I'd think of the day
you told me it hurt you and the look on your face. That was all it took to keep
me there. You didn't find another girlfriend while I was away did you?" Cheyenne
said.
"No way. I didn't date anyone. You could ask Sierra."
"I believe you. I love you, Brian."
"I love you, too." Brian said. "I have news. Remember how I told you I wanted to
be a singer? Well, Cousin Kevin called me to join a band and I'm going back. I
made it already and we've been signed. We start touring in Europe soon."
"Oh my gosh. This is so great for you!" Cheyenne said.
"I know. I can't wait. I leave the day after graduation. Are you graduating or
not?"
"Of course, I took all my classes at the center. I get to graduate with my
class."
The next week, they graduated and Brian left for Florida. Brian and Cheyenne
tried a long distance relationship for five years into the Backstreet Boy's
career. In August of 1998, He and Cheyenne decided they should be just friends.
A year later, Cheyenne married Brian's best friend and fellow band mate, Nick
Carter. They dated for nine months. Then on October 29th, 1999, they were
married. Brian was Nick's best man and also gave Cheyenne away because her dad
was very ill. Three weeks after the wedding, David Chase died of pneumonia.
A
year after their marriage, Cheyenne told Nick he'd be a daddy.
As for Brian, he went on with his life. He hooked up with an old girlfriend
from high school and they dated for a year. Brian and Janine were married on
January 18th, 2001.
Ryleigh Anne and Taylor Jean Carter were born on June 15th, 2001. They were
twin baby girls with blonde hair and bright blue eyes.
This just goes to prove that on any given day, it could happen.
