Biography

George Harrison was born on February 25, 1943 at 12 Arnold Grove, in the Wavertree area of Liverpool where he lived untill he was six years old. His mother was Louise Harrison and his dad, Harold Harrison, was a bus driver. George had two brothers, Peter and Harold Jr. (Harry), and a sister, Louise. George attended the Dovedale Primary School at the Liverpool Institute. He was a bad student and described school at best "a pain in the neck" and at worse "the worst time in my life".

George's mother bought him his first guitar at the age of 13. He formed his own band called "The Rebels" with his brother Peter and a friend, Arthur Kelly. They were so young that they had to sneak out to perform, but the band didn't last for long. George went to the Youth Employment Center to find a job after he left the Institute. He got a job as a trainee electrician but he kept blowing up things and was way more intrested in music then in his work. George finally got able to play in a band called "Les Stewart Quartet".

Around this time George became friend with Paul McCartney who used to ride with him on the bus No.86 to the Liverpool Institute. Paul was a member of the group "The Quarry Men" with another student, John Lennon. George then quitted "Les Stewart Quartet" after having an argument with an other member. After a while George was part of "The Quarrymen".

In 1960 the group had a new drummer: Pete Best. The Beatles (their new name) went in Germany in August and worked at the Indra Club. After they appeared in a rival club, the Top Ten Club, the owner of the Indra revealed that George was only 17 and didn't have a work permit so he was forced to go back to England.

After a few years The Beatles became very successfull but people were more intrested in Paul and John then the others (including Ringo Starr their new drummer) mainly because of their song writing. George felt that his work wasn't being taken seriously by the others. His first song: "Don't Bother Me" appears on the album "With The Beatles". George began to write more and more songs and showed everybody how talented a songwriter he was.

During the shooting of the movie "A Hard Day's Night" George met Pattie Boyd who became his wife on January 21, 1966. Later George developed a friendship with the well known guitarist Eric Clapton. He also met two men who would change his life: Ravi Shankar and Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. He learned to play the sitar from Shankar. He learned transcendental meditation from the Maharishi. He went to Bombay in January 1968 to record tracks for the album "Wonderwall" with Indian musicians.

George was no longer willing to take the back seat in The Beatles activities and became very produtive during his late Beatle career. His later Beatles works include many great songs like "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Only A Northen Song", "Here Comes The Sun" and the beloved "Something". He also made a experimental solo album called "Electronic Sounds".

After a dispute with Paul he walked off the set of the "Let It Be" film in January 1969. Paul was able to convince him to appear with The Beatles in the last public appearance on the roof of the Apple building. After the recording of "Abbey Road" The Beatles were no more. George then recorded a solo triple album called "All Things Must Pass."

George then appeared on the concert for Bangla Desh in August 1971 in Madison Square Garden. Many musicians performed during this concert inculding Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Billy Preston, Badfinger and Ravi Shankar. After a few years George's marriage was falling apart. Pattie began an affair with George's best friend, Eric Clapton. He and Pattie got divorced on June 9, 1977.

By this time George was in love with Olivia Arias and they were living together at George's mansion, Friar Park in Henley. Olivia gave birth to their son, Dhani on August 1, 1978. They got married the following month. In the 1980's, George made several stage and television appearances. He also became part of "The Traveling Wilburys". The band included Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison and of course, the greatest of them all, George. Their first album was released in 1988 and they became an instant success.

A few days before new year 2000 George was stabbed in his Friar Park mansion in Oxfordshire, England, by Mike Abram, a young man from Liverpool. Thanks God he didn't suffer too much from the attact.
