Baptiste


1. Position in the band

Scott: Bass.
Wayne: Vocals/Rhythm guitar.
Chris: Keyboards.
Colin: Lead guitar.
Marc: Drums.


2. Describe Baptiste in five words.

S: Guitary, keyboardy, drummy, bassy, vocally.
W: "...crashing in the same car."
Ch: Killing off the musically mediocre.
Co: Loud, quiet, intelligent, no riff-raff.
M: Soothing, delicate, intense, honest and male!!


3. How did the band meet?

S: In a personal ad, then consummated the relationship in a practice room and later a pub and curry.
W: Happy accidents in birth and schooling, and via a couple of carefully worded, well placed ads.
Ch: The group were drawn together by unknown forces to dam the flow of attention to unworthy nonsense.
Co: School.
M: Mutual friends...and er, Wayne's been like a brother to me!


4. Give one interesting fact about the band or yourself.

S: Mini Cheddars are the salty snack of choice for Baptiste.
W: um...
Ch: Baptiste are planning the musical emancipation of the world (no less).
Co: We are all right handed.
M: We rehearse opposite a Lebanese bakery. Occasionally you'll find the local fox from Acton enjoying their left over sugary delights.


5. Who have influenced Baptiste?

S: Travelling salesmen, hypnotists and used car dealers.
W: New Order and the Velvet Underground, Joe Orton, Martin Amis, TS Eliot, F Scott Fitzgerald, Peter Cook, and the Jesus and Mary Chain.
Ch: Baptiste skim the waters of past and present music like a skipping stone, dipping in as they see fit. When is the final splash? Who knows?
Co: Velvet Underground
M: Tindersticks, Velvets, Television, Galaxie 500.


6. What are Baptiste up to right now?

S: Making music, living, loving and experiencing the new dawn of their relationship.
W: Writing, rehearsing, gigging, DJing. "Living the dream" basically.
Ch: Plotting to remove the wheel of pop from the musical motorway.
Co: DJing at Uptight.
M: Rehearsing the set for the next gig and preparing for the single.


7. How is your club Uptight going?

S: Really great! More fun than you can shake a stick at.
W: Permanently trembling on the brink of careless self-destruction... yet somehow, as if by a miracle...
Ch: The music is essential, the reaction is up to you.
Co: Couldn't be better.
M: Pretty good,it's great to be able to play the records you love all night!


8. Do you find it easy to dj?

S: Really great! more fun than you can shake a stick at.
W: ...as falling over (see my last answer).
Ch: It's like drinking and playing records in your front room, only more people are there.
Co: Extremely
M: Yes,there's not a great deal of thought involved.


9. Will you be releasing anything this year?

S: Yes, a single...
W: ...then plan to concentrate on the album.
Ch: Baptiste are waiting for the record buying public to wake up to what's new.
Co: A few profanities
M: We're recording the single this month.


10. Anything else to declare?

S: We have no foodstuffs on our person or illegal liquor.
W: "Losing hope just makes us stronger"
Ch: The world is ours, join us or get outta here.
Co: Yes.
M: An album in the near future.
