Interview with All-Stars | ||||||
All-Stars: How did you get involved with City Guys? Drew: We would like to know that ourselves! (LAUGHS) NBC and our Label, Motown, were in contact with eachoter and they worked it out. We were thrilled about the idea from the beginning. It's a great thrill to be on the show like this. The cast has been really great--they've made us feel very at home and welcome. It's just been a great experience and we'd love to do it again. All: Do you have a lot of lines? Nick: Yeah I'm making my acting debut. I'm trying right now at this moment to remember my lines! All: Did you get bitten by the acting bug? Would you like to do more acting? D: Honestly, it's a lot more work and it takes a lot more time and concentration than I ever imagined. It's fun, so who knows, we might try it. All: Was working on a TV show whay you expected? N: Yeah, it's been great. i didn't have any expectations of how it was going to be--we just tried to come in with an open mind and enjot it. It's been cool. The cast and the producers have been great. We're just trying to slide in there and not embarass ourselves. All: Were you nervous at all? N: YES. These people do it every day and we tried to come in and be normal. You're playing yourself, how hard can that really be? But it is a different scenario. And it's different from being in front of a camera for a video. It's a different experience. All: Did the actors give you any pointers? N: They just said, "Relax." Drew gave me pointers. He's my acting coach. All: How did you help him, Drew? D: I just helped him remember his lines. I told him not to accent words--he was sounding like an idiot. Now he sounds normal. All: How is the feeling different when you perform in front of a camera and when you perform onstage? D: It's totally different because you can interact with the audience and you have somthing to feed off of--you can grab hands and stuff like that. otherwise, you've got this camera there and it's not going to give anything back to you. Jeff: It's more staged and restricted in this atmosphere then it is in a real concert. In a real concert, you can be spontaneous and do whatever you want. N: It kind of makes you appreciate movie actors because they're able to keep up a character and at the same time they're having to start and stop. It's been an experience. All: You guys have really been invoved with the small screen and the big screen. You did the song "True To Your Heart," from the Mulan soundtrack. What did you think of tha? Justin: I was practically in tears through the movie. D: It was really cool because we didn't know where in the movie the song would come in and all of a sudden (he snaps) it just pops into the movie. There's kind of a party scene at the end of the movie and (the song) starts then and rolls into the credits. I just got goosebumps and all excited. It's a great feeling--unmatched. Ju: It was actually interesting to hear it too, because at the end of the movie it's a different version of the song than the one on the album, so it kind of took us by surprise. We didn't spend as much time working on that version and you hear stevie doing some different things than he did on the other version. All: What was Stevie Wonder like? Je: He's very cool and down-to-earth. During the video shoot, he invited us to come in his trailer and kind of had on the spot jam session with him in his trailer. He had his keyboard in there and we sang some songs and it was great. All: And then you all appeared on the Tonight Show. Je: It just seems like all these big things keep coming up for us and every time it gets bigger and bigger for us, we just keep getting more and more excited and we just feel more and more blessed. The Tonight Show is a huge thing--it's internationally televised an it was our first time on there, which is great for us as a group. |
