Kylie began
her carrer in some television series. In the early 80's she was in the
series "Skyways",followed by roles in the "Sullivans" and the mini-series
"The Henderson Kids".
In 1986, she began to play the
role of "Charlene" in the series "Neighbours" (yes, the same series
that
Natalie Imbruglia performed in a few years ago).
Kylie gained international recognition acting in this series.
In 1987 she performed a remake
of Litle Eva's "The Locomotion" at a football concert in Australia.
Someone suggested that she record it and the single
become the number 1 single in Australia. Remaining at
number 1 for 7 weeks, it was the biggest selling
Australian single of the decade.
After Locomotion she recorded
the song "I Should Be So Lucky" with the famous production team
Stock/Aitken/Waterman ,which became a number 1
hit in Europe. Three other singles were released from
her debut album "Kylie".Prior to releasing her
second album "Enjoy Yourself" in 1989, (a UK number 1), with the
hits "Hand On Your Heart" and "Wouldn't Change a Thing", Kylie bowed
to public pressure in the UK and recorded a ballad called "Especially for
You", a duet with her partner in "Neighbours", Jason Donovan. At
the time they were the biggest thing on television in both the UK and Australia.
The song however missed the elusive Christmas number 1 - reaching the top
spot the following week. Just prior to her work on the Australian film
"The Delinquents" she began dating Michael Hutchience, of INXS.
At the end of 1990, after breaking
up with Michael, she released her third album entitled "Rhytm of Love".
With this release Kylie had become more mature
with her image, more sexy and her music, was produced not
by only SAW, but with the collaborations of Stephen
Bray (known for his work with Madonna) and Michael
Jay (producer of Martika).
Songs like "Better The Devil
You Know" and "Shocked" became hits in Europe, Australia and
Japan. At
the end of 1991 she released her fourth album "Let's
Get To It", produced by Stock and Waterman, which
contained the singles "Word Is Out", "Give Me Just
a Little More Time" and "If You Were With Me Now"
(a duet with American singer Keith Washigton).
With this album come a world tour too, that started in
Australia, continued in Japan and finally the UK.
In 1992 she released a
compilation of her singles to date entitled "Greatest Hits", This compilation
became number 1 in UK and 2 in OZ, and contained
three brand new songs: "Where In The World", "What
Kind of Fool" and "Celebration"(a remake of this
70's classic). The last two songs were realeased as singles.
In 1994 she made the movie
"Streetfighter" with Jean Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia,in which she
played the role of the heroine "Cammy". In this
year too, she released her album with a new record company,
Deconstruction Records, with new producers like:
M.People,Brothers In Rhythm, and Jimmy Harry.The first
single from this album was "Confide In Me", which
was a big hit in the UK and Australia. After this single,
she released two more great songs as singles: the
great ballad "Put Yourself in My Place" and "Where Is
The Feeling?".
In 1995, she played a role in
the US movie "Bio-Dome",and recorded a duet with Nick Cave, "Where
The Wild Roses Grow".
In 1997 she recorded with Towa
Tei (ex-Dee Lite), the song called "G.B.I(German Bold Italic)", a very
different style of song for Kylie. She released
a new single called "Some Kind Bliss", from her
forthcoming album "Impossible Princess".
The album's release was delayed because the death of Princess
Diana. Feeling that the title was inappropriate
in the wake of her death, the title of this album was changed to Kylie
Minogue in UK. The album was finally realesed in January of 1998.
Two other singles released from
this album were"Breathe" and "Did It Again". The
video of "Did It Again" won the MTV Australia Viewers
Choice award for Best Australian video. Her latest
tour in Australia and UK to promote this album, was a big sucess,
with sellouts in all shows in Australia and UK. This tour was called "Intimate
& Live".
A few months later she amicably broke
her contract with DeConstruction Records. After a few appearances in two
australian movies, The thriller "Cut" and the urban drama "Sample People",
Kylie began the year 2000 with a new single called "Spinning Around", released
in June 19th in UK, Australian and other countries around Europe, the single
hit the number one in both UK and Australia in the first week of they release!!!!!!!
In 18 september she will release her brand new album called "Light Years"a
return to what Kylie doing at the best, Pop music!!! In september
she released her second single "On a Night Like This", that reach number
UK 2 and OZ number 1. The album was released soon after. In October 1st,
Kylie was in Sidney for the Closing Ceremonies of the Olympic Games. She
performed "Dancing Queen" and "On a Night Like This" for thousands of people
around the world. In the same month she appeared in the Opening cerimonies
for the Para-Olimpyc Games, singing the australian anthem "Waltzing Matilda",
"Celebration" and her hit "Spinning Aroun". She made a appearance
in the movie "Moulin Rouge", as a fairy or something like that; the movie
will be released in the US in 2001, and recorded 2 new song for the Soundtrack.
