“Ah, I don’t think we’ll ever get this song done!” Callie cried taking off
her headphones and placing them on the stand. Heidi, Liz, Brit and Aubrey
all took theirs off as well and placed them alongside Callie’s.
“Tell me about it. We’ve been working on this song the whole day and I’m
getting pooped,” Heidi said as she sat down on the couch in the studio room.
The 5 girls were in a group called Reality Check and they were recording
their first album, which was yet to be named. They’re first single, First
Ice, debut at number 2, second to ‘some cheesy boy band’ as Brit had called
them. “We’re all tired. And this album better get done soon cause I don’t
wanna be waking up at 5 a.m. every morning to keep recording songs.” Aubrey
said laughing. They had gotten a bit of a break this morning when their
manager let them get up at 6 instead of 5 but it was still fairly early for
5 girls that loved to sleep in.
“Well I guess we’re done for the day huh girls?” Liz asked the others. She
wanted to get out of their as soon as possible so she could sleep.
“Yeah, Heidi and I gotta go to some concert tonight with my sis. She won
tickets and lucky us we get to go!” Callie said faking enthusiasm. All
Callie knew was that it was for some boy group but her sis Jennifer never
told them who it was. But that was probably because the girls were in tough
competition with most boy groups.
“Oh lucky you. Hope ya have tons of fun?” Brit said knowing they wouldn’t.
“Yeah I’m sure we will. We’ll bring you all back a tee,” Heidi responded
sarcastically. She wasn’t really gonna waste her money on some group that
she didn’t even know and probably won’t like at all.
“Well we’ll see you girls tomorrow morning bright and early!” Liz said
cheerfully. They all moaned, no one wanted to get up that early.
They all walked out of the studio together, and out to their cars. Heidi got
a lift with Callie since they were gonna go directly to Jennifer’s house to
pick her up. Callie and Heidi were already dressed for the concert, not that
they had to impress anybody considering it’ll most likely be all girls.
Callie was wearing her khaki capri pants with a black tank that went well
with her blue/green eyes. Her hair was let down to show off her brown curly
hair. Heidi wore her flared jeans with a plain white tank that had the group
name Reality Check embroidered on the front in blue. Heidi’s layered blonde
hair was let down as well.
HONK! HONK! Callie pressed the horn of the car when they arrived outside
Jennifer’s flat that she shared with a couple friends from college.
“I’m coming!” Jennifer yelled out as she opened the door of her two level
flat. It was fairly big but when you have 4 other people living with you, it
was always hard to get any privacy let alone some quiet time.
Jennifer ran up to the car and jumped into the back seat of Callie’s new
mustang convertible, which she had received from her parents as a
congratulations for getting in the group last year.
“Kay I’m ready to go!” Jennifer said laughing as sat back and rested her
head on the back of the seat.
“So who are we seeing anyways?” Heidi asked curiously. Callie and her had
been trying to figure it out the whole way to Jen’s house but still had no
clue.
“A bit impatient aren’t we? You’ll see when we get there and at the rate
Callie’s going will be in about a couple of minutea,” Jen said. Callie was
always driving fast and the girls of Reality Check were all a little afraid
of her except for Heidi who had a need for speed. As Jen had predicted, they
were there in a few minutes only to see a whole ton of teenyboppers and fans
who were waiting outside with their tickets in hand.
“Oh no!” Callie cried out noticing the sign of one of the girls.
“What?” Heidi asked worried that something was wrong.
“5ive, we’re seeing 5ive!” Callie said pointing out the sign reading “I love
5ive”. ( yeah I know original huh?)
“We were right, some cheesy boy band.” Heidi said. Jen was sulking in the
back for she liked 5ive but she wasn’t like madly in love with them either.
“You guys have never even listened to their music before so don’t get
started on them. I’m sure their music will grow on ya soon enough!” Jen said
trying to convince the girls that’ll be fun.
“Maybe but don’t count on it,” Callie said stubbornly. She was never one to
be convinced to change her mind easily although it was known to happen
occasionally.
“You’ll never change will you?” Jen said dragging Callie and Heidi into the
backstage area where they were allowed to go due to Heidi’s and Callie’s
status in the music scene plus they had backstage passes. The girls
recognized a few faces here and there including their make-up artist who was
like a godsend to the girls.
“Hi Dani!” Heidi said sneaking up on her. They called her Dani for short but
her real name was Danielle and she was the most phenomenal make-up artist in
the world, (not that the girls needed it).
“Callie, Heidi!” Dani said giving the girls a friendly hug. “I haven’t seen
you for a while. What are you doing here?” she asked excitedly. She
sometimes hung out with the girls cause they were roughly around the same
age except Dani was about 2 years older than them at 21.
“Jen dragged us here,” Callie said pointing at her sister.
“I remember Jen. How are you?” she asked her cheerily.
Jen smiled, “I’m great. Busy with school but had time to come here with
these 2 rays of sunshine over here.” Heidi and Callie frowned at Jen while
Dani just laughed. Dani had to go do the make-up for some of the dancers so
the girls said a quick good-bye and they parted ways til later.
“So how long til the torture starts?” Heidi asked peering at a clothing rack
sitting outside a room. There was actually some nice stuff but it was mostly
the dancers outfits for the concert.
“Soon, I think.” Jennifer said taking the tickets out from her purse to find
the time on them.
“Yup soon, as in like 5 minutes,” Jen said now noticing that the backstage
was clearing out fairly quickly.
“Oh well we better get to our seats so we don’t miss the show,” Callie said
laughing sarcastically. It was going to be a long night. The girls heard
footsteps running down the hall but the girls thought nothing of it until
two guys, one with spikey brown hair and the other with a shorter and
lighter brown spiked hair, ran right past them almost knocking them down.
“Hey watch it!” Callie said angrily. Some people were so inconsiderate. The
guys just laughed and kept on running, chasing each other for who knows what
the reason?
“Ugh guys’ll never learn!” Heidi said exasperated, making her way towards
the door that would lead them out into the crowd and eventually to their
seats in the front row.
~~~~Meanwhile~~~~
“Hey Scott did you get a good look at those girls we almost ran into?” J
said tiredly. He was out of breath after chasing Scott throughout the arena
for his glasses.
“Yeah, they looked familiar though,” Scott said getting powdered by who else
but Dani.
“Yeah I know what you mean,” J said and described them to Abs, Sean, and
Ritchie to see if they could help them out.
“Oh you met those girls?” Dani asked interrupting the guys conversation.
“Well we kinda ran into them,” Scott said laughing remembering the girls
faces when they ran past. “Why you know them?” Scott said tilting his head
slightly for Dani.
“Yeah I do their make-up before all of their shows. They’re from that new
girl group Reality Check except for one who is the sister of one of them.”
Dani said searching through the drawers of the make-up table looking for
something.
“I bet that’s why the blonde one had Reality Check on her tank top!” Scott
said like he just figured out something that he’s never done before.
“That’d be Heidi. The one with the curly hair is Callie, and Jen is her
sister who dragged them here kicking and pleading not to come,” Dani said
laughing and then realized that the room had grown quiet.
“They don’t like boy groups, nothing against your music personally, it’s all
boy bands,” Dani said trying to ease the tension between them all.
“Would 5ive please come to the stage now!” a burly guy said when he had
opened the door of their room. The guys were about to go on soon as their
opening act ‘N SYNC (that’s the way it ought to be not that I don’t like N
SYNC or anything)
~~~Outside in the audience~~~
“Ugh, when will the boybands stop!” Callie cried out. Her ears were ringing
with all the screaming.
Finally N SYNC went off stage and the lights went out totally
Chapter 2
“I’m not liking this so far,” Callie said crossing her arms.
“They haven’t even come on yet,” Jen said looking sternly at Callie. Callie
could be really stubborn at times.
5ive…..Four…Three…..Two…..One…. (you know what all happens here so I ain’t
gonna explain it)
“Oooh!” Heidi sarcastically as J’s rap came up. She was like Callie at times
but gave people more of a chance.
“When I flick the switch, make your hips wanna dip now…” J rapped, eyeing
the girls in the crowd. He noticed a familiar girl with curly brown hair in
the front row. His eyes moved to the right of her noticing the blonde one.
Both looked totally uninterested in the concert and in them. Still rapping,
he went towards Scott and brought him towards the section where the girls
were. Scott and J bent down and smiled at Callie and Heidi.
“Look at the losers,” Callie said under her breath to Heidi who started
laughing. They both smiled trying not to show their true feelings of hate
for them. Eventually Scott and J left them alone and Callie breathed a sigh
of relief.
“You know what Callie?”
“What?” Callie said looking at her friend Heidi who seemed to keep glancing
at the stage no doubt trying to watch the guys.
“They were kinda cute you know,” Heidi responded. She turned to look at
Callie to see her reaction. She seemed to be contemplating what Heidi was
saying. Then she smiled sweetly.
“Yeah they were, and…..”
“Oh there’s an and,” Jen said interrupting.
“Yes there’s an and!” Callie said, “and their music isn’t half bad.”
“Woah! I wonder how much courage that took!” Heidi said laughing. Callie
hardly ever admitted when she was wrong which meant she really DID like
5ive.
“Shut up!” Callie said threatening Heidi and Jen who were laughing at her.
“How bout we just sit and enjoy the rest of the show in peace,” Callie said
angrily. She turned around to face the stage sulking.
After the concert:
“Now didn’t you have?” Jen asked Callie and Heidi.
“Yes I did, Better than I expected from a boyband,” Heidi said smiling. She
had actually really enjoyed it, and thought they were kinda cute.
“Ditto,” Callie said. She had not said much since the little argument
earlier.
“Hi girls!” a familiar voice from behind them said.
“Dani!” Callie said happily giving her a friendly hug. They were the hugging
type of people.
“So did you enjoy the show?” Dani said. Her face was slightly red, she
looked like she had been running somewhere a little earlier.
‘I actually did enjoy it!” Heidi said laughing. Dani smiled even more.
“Oh good! The guys from the group are great, I’m glad you liked it!”
“Callie, tell Dani what you thought of it,” Heidi said nudging her in the
side. Callie glared at her but then her frown disappeared.
“I liked it,” Callie said nonchalantly.
“DANI!!!!” someone backstage yelled out to her.
“Coming!” she replied quickly. “Gotta go girls, I’ll see you girls in a few
days,” and she left.
“Well let’s go, it’s getting late and you gotta be up early tomorrow,” Jen
said looking at her watch. It read 11:30. It wasn’t that early but she new
her sister had to be up at 5 tomorrow.
“Yes mom,” Callie responded sarcastically. The girls made their way towards
the back door of the arena.
“I’m going guys,” Scott said as he opened the door to their dressing room.
He was followed closely by J and Abs who were ready to leave. He briefly
glimpsed a head of blonde hair that looked familiar and pulled J out
quickly.
“What was that for mate?” J said angrily. He did not appreciate being
touched.
“It’s those girls right?” Scott asked and J nodded.
“Hey wait UP!” J yelled out running after the three girls but it was too
late. The girls had left the building already.
“We’ll probably never see them again,” Scott sighed, obviously depressed
about his misfortune.
J walked sullenly back into the dressing room to see if Sean was ready to
leave.
Chapter 3
“I can’t believe we are almost done our FIRST album!” Aubrey cried
excitedly! They had only two more sings to finish and at the rate they were
going, it would be done in no time!
“What songs do we have left?” Brit asked. They had recorded 14 so far making
it kind of hard to forget which ones were left.
“Ummm, isn’t it our self titled song First Ice and what’s it called?” Liz
said thinking really hard. “ummm, Road To life! That’s the one!” Liz cried
out suddenly.
“Ooh good songs left!” Brit cried excitedly. She couldn’t wait to start
recording it cause they were probably 2 of her favourites.
The girls were so engrossed in going over the lyrics that they never noticed
the knocking at the door to the studio until Aubrey suddenly looked up and
realized someone was knocking.
“Someone is knocking at the door,” she said tapping Heidi on the shoulder.
Heidi looked up at her confused, “Why don’t you go get it then?”
“Cause I’m kinda stuck between Brit and Callie and can’t get up,” Aubrey
said laughing.
“Kay I’ll get it,” Heidi said standing up from her chair next to the couch
where the other three were squished in with the exception of Callie who was
standing over the back of it.
“Yeah what do you want?” Heidi said as she swung the door open. 5 guys were
staring back at her looking very angry.
“We’re supposed to be using this studio right now and you won’t get out!” a
guy with what looked like newly shaved hair responded angrily. The girls
found out later that it was Abs.
“No,” Heidi replied calmly. “We have this studio room booked everyday this
week for the recording of our new album so would you please leave us alone.
It would be greatly appreciated” Heidi said smoothly. She recognized two of
the faces but could not remember from where.
“Hey aren’t you one of the girls we ran into at our concert last night?” J
piped up. He had recognized her instantly but didn’t want to say anything at
first. Heidi just looked at him with a blank expression.
“Who’s at the door Heidi?” Callie called from inside the studio room.
“No one! Or at least there won’t be soon,” Heidi said glaring at them. “And
yes you did run into us,” Heidi replied remembering now where she had seen
them before.
“Look, Heidi right?” a guy with short blonde/brown hair to his ears who they
found out was named Ritchie said. “How much longer do you think you’ll be?”
“We have 2 more songs to record and if you don’t leave soon we can make it
more,” Heidi said getting angrier. This was not helping the boy bands case
get better.
“Ugh! I’m coming Heidi!” Callie said storming to the door. “What do you
want?” she cried out then noticed the two that had run into them last night.
“I see we meet again,” Scott, the spiked haired guy said laughing.
“What’s the prob Heidi?” Callie said ignoring him. She turned to Heidi who
whispered the problem into her ear. Callie turned back to the 5 guys and
replied, “See the sign on the door, it says Reality Check! That’s us! Not
you!” Heidi tried to calm Callie down a little just in case she got really
mad.
“Can I see that sheet?” Heidi asked J politely who was holding the
assignment slip in his hand. J handed it over immediately.
“It says here that you’re in room 4, not room 5 which is this room,” Heidi
pointed out to them.
“But we’re 5ive! We always get room 5! 5ive and 5! They go together!” Scott
cried.
“Well tough! Us girls are in this room and we’re taking it over unless you
think you can take us on!” Callie said putting up her fists prepared to
fight anyone who dared.
“Callie stop,” Heidi said calming her down. Sometimes Callie could get like
that and not realize it.
Finally Callie calmed down slightly but still glared furiously at them.
“Okay we’ll leave, since I guess you’re right,” J said politely turning to
the guys.
“Oh by the way, I didn’t catch your names,” Heidi said smiling. She just had
this gut feeling that things would turn out better between the two groups.
“Probably cause we didn’t throw them,” Scott replied laughing his ass off.
“Oooo quick-witted aren’t you?” Callie said obviously not amused by his
behaviour.
Abs hit him on the back to keep him from bursting.
“That’s Scott laughing, and this is Abs, Ritchie, and me good buddy Sean.
I’m J,” J replied holding out his hand for her. Heidi shook it gently.
“Well it’s nice to meet guys. I’m Heidi and this is my friend Callie, and
that’s Brit, Aubrey and Liz sitting on the couch,” Heidi said opening the
door so they could see them. The girls smiled and waved but then went back
to going over the lyrics.
“Look we really gotta finish our album so I’ll put this in terms you can
understand, Leave now” Calie said still fairly angrily. Her comment was
directed mostly at Scott who seemed a bit out of it and not paying any
attention to what the two girls were saying.
“Feisty! I love feisty girls!” Scott said laughing. Callie looked ready to
slap him upside the head if he didn’t shutup.
“Look Scott right?” Heidi said. Scott stopped laughing at the mention of his
name. He nodded his head.
“If you know what’s good for you, you’d shutup right now and leave,” Heidi
scolding him. Scott looke down at his shoes and turned away from the door
and walked down the hall, followed closely by the others.
“Bye J,” Heidi whispered quietly as he left so he couldn’t hear her.
“Oooh, looks like you got a crush on someone,” Callie whispered while
turning away from her.
“What if I did?” Heidi said walking back to her chair and started memorizing
her part of the next song.
1 ½ hours later:
“Hey girls! I got some great news for you!” their manager, Chris said as he
walked into their room.
“Oo I love good news,” Brit said excited. She didn’t know what it was yet
but if Chris said it was good then it must be.
“You guys are going to go on a six month headlining tour with another
group!” Chris said showing the girls the paper with all the details on it
except for who they would be touring with.
“This is great!” Callie replied happily.
“But who are we touring with?” Aubrey asked glancing down at the paper to
make sure she didn’t miss anything.
“Umm you will be touring with Five,” Chris said, knowing full well that the
girls would not like the fact that they were going to be touring with a lad
band.
“NO! You gotta be kidding me?” Callie cried out unpleased. She hoped in her
mind that he was joking but deep down in her heart she kinda wanted him not
to be only, she didn’t realize it.
“Sorry girls but this is the only tour that I could get where you wouldn’t
be an opening act and I know how much you hate that.” Chris apologized.
Looks of disappointment spread across their faces, well all except Heidi and
Aubrey who were not as displeased with boy bands as the others were.
“Come on girls. At least we’re not an opening act. Plus it’s not like we’ll
have to do stuff with them,” Aubrey said trying to convince the girls that
it would be fun once they started the tour.
“Come on Callie. You know you had fun last night,” Heidi said helping Aubrey
out. Callie looked at her in shock.
“No I didn’t!” Callie protested but it was obvious she was trying to hide
the truth.
“You had fun!” Brit cried out happily realizing the truth. Callie had fun at
a boy band concert! This was like something they thought would never happen.
“So what if I did? Huh? I said it was okay,” Callie said crossing her arms.
Liz, Brit, and Aubrey looked at her in shock.
“Let’s just forget this whole thing. I geuss going on tour with them won’t
be so bad. Just one question Chris,” Callie said ignoring the comments of
the girls earlier.
“Shoot,” Chris responded.
“If we’re not opening for them, then are they opening for us?”
“No, you guys are switching every night but you’ll each be doing around 10
songs a night so it’ll be tough work but you girls can handle it I’m sure,”
Chris said laughing. The girls were used to dancing for very long amounts of
time.
“You girls will be meeting with them in about two weeks. In between then and
now, you’ll be practicing your dances non-stop until you get them down pat.
After the meeting, you’ll be doing promotional work WITH them and practicing
your songs and dances some more. Then you’ll be leaving.. Well it’s all here
in the paper. You can read it yourself,” Chris said laying down 5 copies of
the info sheet on the desk in the studio for the girls to go over. With
that, he left the room.
“Well we’re done for the day,” Heidi replied picking up a sheet.
“Yeah. I’ll drive today,” Liz said picking up the keys and a sheet from the
desk. They all lived together in a huge flat a few minutes away.
Chapter 4
2 weeks later:
“They’re late!” Brit said impatiently. The girls were now okay with the fact
that they would be touring with 5ive but they did not appreciate late
people. In fact, the girls had had lunch with the guys sometime last week
when they had seen them at this restaurant so they had decided asked the
guys to join them. Well actually, Aubrey and Brit had.
“I’m sure they’ll be here soon,” Callie said calmly. She had done a lot of
thinking these past two weeks and had realized that if she wanted to have
fun on this tour she would have to get along with them. Plus she thought
Scott was kinda cute despite his behaviour that she had seen when she had
met him. Kinda being the key word.
The door to the room opened with a whole bunch of noise coming from the
other side of it. The guys from 5ive were laughing their heads off at
something funny unaware that the girls of Reality Check were pissed cause
they were late. Well at least some of them were
The guys walked into the room and continued laughing until Callie finally
told them to shut up.
“Woah! Chill out there girl!” Scott said still laughing except now he was
laughing at how angry Callie was. Callie gave him a look that could kill and
he stopped.
“So why are we here anyways?” Brit asked as she sat down on the leather
couch in the room. There were two couches in the room, along with two love
seats. Sean sat down in between Aubrey and Brit, while Ritchie was on
another couch with J and Heidi. While Abs sat with Liz on one love seat
leaving Callie and Scott stuck together on the last love seat.
“Why me?” Callie cried out exasperatedly when the others told her she’d have
to sit with Scott.
“Hey this ain’t no picnic for me either,” Scott spat back at her. Ever since
they had met they had been getting on each other’s nerves constantly. The
others, however, thought they just liked each other and didn’t want to show
it.
“Anyways,” Brit said interrupting their little argument that she knew would
get bigger if someone didn’t intervene. “Why are we here again?”
“Because,” J said, continuing to explain the meeting to both groups.
AFTER THE MEETING
“Well that was fun,” Heidi said sarcastically. They didn’t do much except
arrange a few appearances together and discussed how they were gonna split
the concert times and where they would be staying. The girls wanted to stay
at a 5-star hotel while the guys really couldn’t care, so it was agreed that
a 5-star hotel would be the place of choice.
“Are you guys busy tonight?” Liz asked the guys, mainly Sean though.
“No, I don’t think so but we do gotta get up early tomorrow,” Sean replied
looking at the others to make sure he was correct.
“Well do you guys wanna go clubbing with us tonight?” Aubrey said, taking
the hint from Liz who was smiling.
“We could but we’d have to leave early,” Ritchie said. He knew their manager
would hate it if they were up all night and were too tired for rehearsals in
the morning.
“Well that’s okay. We’ll meet you at the club around 9,” Aubrey replied,
glad the guys could make it even if it wasn’t for long. Plus she would get
to spend some time with Ritchie.
“It’s a date then,” Abs replied happily.
“I ain’t goin’ on no date people,” Callie said, looking at the others.
“Figure of speech,” Scott said looking at Callie like she was stupid which
was a big mistake by him.
“Why don’t you guys just stop fighting for once, please,” Heidi begged.
Callie looked at Heidi and then Scott and back at Heidi.
“Fine, if Scott stops it, I will,” Callie sighed looking at Scott.
“I guess but I hope you know how much pain this is causing me,” Scott
responded shaking Callie’s hand in agreement.
“Well we gotta go now and get ready for tonight,” Heidi said, saying
good-bye to the guys. J was last to say good-bye to her.
“Better look good for me,” J whispered in her ear causing Heidi to giggle.
They had this little thing going on since the meeting at the restaurant that
nobody else in the groups knew about except for Callie. Callie looked at
Heidi in disgust, like it were against the groups rules to like each other.
The rest of the girls all said good-bye to the others, even Callie said
good-bye to Scott.
Chapter 5
“I never would guess you girls could party so much,” Abs said looking at all
of them. The girls had been out on the dance floor partying and drinking
like you wouldn’t believe. Well partying at least, the drinking was still
okay.
“Well you better get used to it cause we love to party!” Brittany said
excitedly. She was obviously getting drunk but thankfully she told them she
was on her last drink.
“Callie, does Heidi usually take 20 minutes in the ladies room?” J asked
really concerned. She had left around 20 minutes ago and still had not
returned.
“No, this is really unlike her. I’ll go check on her,” Callie said getting
up from the table where they had crammed 10 people into a booth that could
only hold like 6.
Callie made her way through the crowd of people, a feeling of uneasiness
passed through her. She tried to shake it off. “It’s just all the sleazy
looking people around here,” she muttered to herself, trying to convince
herself otherwise.
The door to the washroom was the only free space with no
people crowding around it. Callie pushed it open, hoping that Heidi would be
in their, ready to come out.
“Heidi,” Callie called out. There was no noise in the room and Callie
couldn’t see anyone.
“Heidi,” Callie called a little more scared as the seconds passed.
“Shit Heidi where are you?!” Callie said as tears started trickling down her
cheeks. She was frightened now, this wasn’t at all like Heidi. She never
left without telling anyone. A wave of nausea passed over Callie and she
bolted out of there as fast as she could and back to the table where the
others were waiting hopeful that she would return with Heidi in tow.
“Callie, where is she?” J cried out. He was scared as hell that Heidi was
gone, and it was obvious that she was if she didn't return with Callie.
“I don’t know, she…she…” Callie stuttered trying to get the words out. Scott
came up to her and hugged her, trying hard to console her. Callie finally
gained enough strength to speak properly and tell the others what happened.
“I went in there and she wasn’t there. I don’t know what happened to her,”
Callie cried, the tears started flowing down her cheeks more rapidly. The
other girls looked like they would start any second now except for Aubrey
who had already started to cry.
“No! You have to be lying!” J said angrily. He didn’t want to believe for
one moment that Heidi was missing.
“I’m not! Why would I say something like this!” Callie replied still in
total shock.
“She’s not gone!” J cried as he hurriedly got up from the table.
He ran towards the ladies room, not caring what people would think if he
went in there. No one, not even someone else was in there. He pushed past
the others who had immediately ran after him and he ran towards the entrance
of the club looking everywhere. He knew she wasn’t in the club because he
had looked for her when Callie was in the ladies room looking. A security
officer was holding open the entrance door for someone else but J just
pushed right through and started running around the outside of the club,
searching everywhere for Heidi.
After his third time around he stopped. His knees crumpled beneath him, he
burst into tears.
“J, where is she?” Liz cried as she fell beside him, hoping this would all
have a happy answer.
“I can’t find her anywhere! But she can’t be gone!” J cried out, the tears
fell down his cheeks, creating a puddle beneath him. “She can’t be!” his
voice faded a he realized the horrible truth.
“I’ll go call the police,” Ritchie said quietly as he left for the club with
Aubrey right beside him. Abs was holding tightly onto Brit, not wanting to
lose her too. Sean was standing their in shock while Liz was trying hard to
console J and convince him that everything would be fine and they would find
her soon.
Scott was letting Callie cry on his shoulder. It was kinda amazing
how something tragic could bring others together.
The police arrived about 5 minutes later. Two burly officers stepped out of
the vehicle and walked towards J who was trying his best to stop crying.
“Can we ask you guys a few questions?” the burly blonde officer asked them
all. They all nodded, now realizing the reality of it all.
Chapter 6
3 months later
“J, are you thinking about Heidi again?” CJ asked him. They were sitting in
a Starbucks café in Florida with the others who had all gotten together in
the last three months (you know Abs and Brittany, Liz and Sean, Ritchie and
Aubrey and even Scott and Callie). After Heidi’s disappearance, Callie and
Scott had gotten much closer, eventually admitting their feelings for each
other. J had been staring off into space for the last five minutes and it
was starting to annoy her. She was hoping like hell that he wasn’t but deep
down in her heart she knew the truth.
After Heidi had disappeared, J had been extremely depressed and so CJ had
tried her hardest to console him and help him forget about Heidi who still
had not been seen or found since that horrible night 3 months ago. J and CJ
had been good friends since high school and she had always had this little
thing for J and so she jumped at the chance to help him out, hoping that
things could possibly start between them. Eventually J started to think
about Heidi less and less but he knew he could never forget the first girl
he thought he ever really loved. About a month and a half after, CJ and J
had gotten together. CJ thought it was love but J just felt like he needed
someone to care for but he also hated misleading CJ like this but it was her
fault cause he told her all of this.
“No,” J said trying to cover the fact up.
“Whatever,” she mumbled under her breath. She tried hard to get J to love
her back and she thought he was coming around but just when she thought they
were getting somewhere, memories of Heidi would come flooding back to J,
making CJ and J’s relationship more rocky again.
“Hi! Can I get you something?” a petite girl said as she came up to the
table. She had long brown hair with light red highlights that really
accented her blue eyes. She seemed to be really perky.
“Yes! We’d like some coffee,” Scot said playfully mocking the waitress whose
name was Hayley.
‘How many?” Hayley replied in the same tone oblivious to what Scott was
doing.
“6,” Ritchie replied after counting who wanted some.
“Okay six coffees coming up! I am going on my break now so another waitress
will bring you your coffee!” Hayley said and made her way to behind the
counter where she got another girl to prepare the coffees while Hayley took
her Starbucks apron off and left for her hour break.
“Uh, here’s your coffee,” a blonde girl this time said as she placed the
coffees down on the table in front of the people who had ordered them. It
was almost automatic how she knew who got the coffee and who didn’t, even
though she had no clue. It was kinda like she knew them but she quickly
shook the feeling off.
For some reason J looked up at the blonde girl, he wasn’t sure why but
something drew him to her. The others still had their heads turned, they
were in a deep conversation. CJ didn’t notice J looking at the blonde girl
for she was busy with the others.
There was something familiar about her but J could not figure it out.
Suddenly it hit him, kinda like he was shot with the memory.
“No, it can’t be you,” J whispered under his breath. The waitress obviously
heard this and looked up at him, a look of shock and anger came across her
face.
J tapped Callie on the shoulder, not once taking his eyes off the waitress.
Callie turned around noticing the look of utter shock on his face and then
up at the waitress. Callie’s eyes widened, eventually welling up with
tears.
“Heidi?” Callie whispered, the tears found their way down her cheeks.
“Callie!” Heidi said hugging Callie who had stood up by now. The others
looked their way to see what the commotion was. They were all happy yet
totally surprised, except for CJ. They thought they would never see Heidi
again and here she was standing in front of them all.
They all hugged and greeted each other except Heidi did not do the same with
the guys. She recognized the girls, well except for CJ, they were her
friends but she couldn’t remember the guys although they seemed to obviously
know her.
“What’s wrong Heidi?” Scott said sensing something was wrong with her.
“Who are you guys? I mean I know Callie, Aubrey, Brittany and Liz, But I
don’t know you and you guys are all acting like you know me,” Heidi asked
really confused.
“We’re 5ive. You were supposed to tour with us about 3 months ago,” Ritchie
said looking at Heidi, trying to convince her that they were telling the
truth, while throwing too much information at her at one time to digest.
“Well wait a sec,” Abs said interrupting Ritchie before he could go on
anymore. “Why don’t we let Heidi tell her story before we start putting
things in her head.” Abs said looking at Heidi to see if that was okay. She
nodded, ready to tell her story of her disappearance.
Chapter 7
“I don’t remember much of what happened,” Heidi started off, playing with a
napkin in her hand, twisting it about.
“All I remember was going to the ladies room at that club we always go to. I
remember being there with some guys but I can’t see their faces when I try
and picture that night,” Heidi stated. The guys all looked at each other. “I
only remember one guys face. And that’s yours,” she pointed at J looking
angry. She seemed scared to be sitting near him.
“All I remember after going to the ladies room is being outside in the cold
in some alley far away from the club with my clothes all torn apart. I guess
I was raped. I’m okay with that now, it still scares me at times but what
can you do about it. It’s no use being scared to go out into the world
because it’s gonna be their whether you like it or not. Then I remember some
nice lady came and took me back to her place where I called my parents who
I’m living with right here in New York. They never even knew I was missing.
I’m trying to remember stuff now but all I can remember is stuff from my
childhood like you girls but for some reason I remember his face,” Heidi
replied, looking at J.
“Why are you afraid of me?” J cried, he could no longer hold it in. All of
the feelings he had for Heidi before she disappeared had come back to him.
“Cause I know I was raped and you are the only face that I can picture from
that night. I have a feeling that you didn’t rape me but I can’t be positive
either. Did you?” Heidi asked straight out. She wanted the truth, the
feeling of being frightened and sitting here with a guy she thought could’ve
raped her was killing her inside. The only reason she could stand it was
because she knew he would never do it in front of the others plus he
couldn’t lie in front of them.
“No, I would never!” J cried, hurt inside that she would think that he would
do that to her.
“I’m sorry but I don’t know what happened that night and I’m just scared,”
Heidi said tears welling up in her eyes.
“He didn’t Heidi,” Callie whispered into her ear. “You loved him. You spent
the whole night after we met them again at the studio talking about how you
thought he was hot and everything. Do you remember that? You loved J, at
least that’s what you told me,” she whispered, hoping Heidi would remember.
What J and Heidi had was a good thing and Callie didn’t want them to lose
that again now that they’ve met after the long time without each other.
“J,” Heidi whispered, shaking her head, a thought coming back to her,
“Are you guys busy tonight?” Liz asked the guys, mainly Sean though.
J was last to say good-bye to her, giving a her a
little kiss on the lips.
“Better look good for me,” J whispered in her ear causing Heidi to giggle.
The picture and words were clear in her head. They were all there, the
girls, the guys even.
“Your Scott, and Abs. And you Ritchie and Sean,” Heidi gasped in amazement
that she could finally remember these people and the faces that went with
the names after all this time.
“And your…” Heidi said trying to control her tears. A look of hope spread
across J’s face. “Your J. My J,” Heidi whispered reaching for his hand from
across the table.
“You’re my Heidi,” J said getting up to hug Heidi, the feelings they felt
for each other before all came back.
CJ cleared her throat from behind J causing him to turn around. J bit his
botto lip, trying to figure out what to do. “Look CJ you’ve been a great
friend, you’ll always be, but you know I love Heidi with all my heart,
please forgive me?” J pleaded with her, holding Heidi’s hand in his, not
wanting to lose her again.
“I know J, I know,” CJ said getting up and leaving the Starbucks without her
beloved J.
“Did you really mean what you said when you told CJ you love me?” Heidi
asked looking J in the eyes.
“You know I did,” J said hugging her tighter, leaning into kiss her.
“Later,” Heidi said placing her index finger in his lips.
“So Callie, I see you’ve turned around completely,” Heidi said laughing as
she sat down next to J, not once letting go of him.
“Yes, Scott and I are going out, if that’s what your wondering,” Callie said
looking at Scott who smiled his famous cheeky smile at her.
“Man you’re all going out now,” Heidi said laughing at how much she’s missed
in the last 3 months.
“You’ve missed a lot,” Liz said still in shock of finding Heidi in some
little café. It was like she was reading Heidi’s mind.
“I’ll catch you up tonight,” J said coyly.
“I’m sure you’ll try J, whether or not you get any talking done that’s a
different story,” Brittany said laughing.
“Heidi, I know this is soon but do you want to start up the group again?”
Aubrey asked, asking the question she knew the other girls were all curious
about.
“I’d love to,” Heidi said glad that they wanted her to be a part of it
again.
“I’ll call Jake,” Brittany said excitedly that the girls of Reality Check
were back together. After her disappearance they decided it wouldn’t be the
same without Heidi so they released the album but did no touring and that
was the end of Reality Check.
“Hi Jake! It’s Brittany! Guess what? The girls are back in town!” Brittany
cried happily into the phone.
