SQUIRES OF THE SUBTERRAIN RELEASE: "POP IN A CD"
For years the Rochester, New York-based Squires of the Subterrain have been
spinning pop concoctions with the flair and avidity of a State Fair cotton-
candy vendor, all prism-eyed from a mild dose. Over the years, the home
taping network- which includes some of today's most discriminating Pop
fans--have eagerly anticipated the Squires' occasional, quirky and well-
crafted tape releases.
Their latest release, Pop in a CD is packed full of pop sounds reminiscent
of--Brian Wilson and tape loop-era Beatles. Clarion harmonies stacked around a
big beat, emanating rich, aural dimensions reminiscent of Spector, the artful
dialings of George Martin, Beach Boys theremin antics... with a dash of fun-
and psychedelia- tinged Turtles.
This Pop works.
Here's what some critics say about the Squires:
"pop for fans who relish "Sunny Afternoon" Kinks, Smiley Smile Beachboys, and
Skylarking XTC" - Jordan Oakes (Yellow Pills)
"...instantly and insistently memorable"- Jack Jordan (Option)
" You'd swear it was a get-together involving Brian Wilson, Sir Paul and, in
parts Mr. Lennon too." -Terry Hermon (Bucketfull of Brains)
With "Pop In A CD," the Squires of the Subterrain are accorded the format and
aural range the band's danceable, imaginative and richly endowed Pop
warrants-- and Squire fans deserve.
The Squires' new one is here. So pop in that CD...
Mark the groove with some good old-fashioned finger popping...
And enjoy some of the most lively, rich and imaginative Pop around.
