Ok, this could be sad or happy, depending on who's reading it...

~*~Short Story~*~
By Jessica v.N.

Count the days
the hourglass
days go and all I do
is think of you
and wonder
where you are at night

Nick threw down his book in disgust. He hadn't the faintest what he was reading about. Looking at his watch he found he had only been home fifteen minutes, but he was already restless. He decided to call someone.

Without realizing it, he began dialing Anne's number. The phone rang three times before the answering machine picked up, "Hi, it's Anne. I'm not in right now, but you can leave a message and I promise to get back to you." Without waiting for the beep, he hung up. Where could shee be? Nick remembered the break up, and that is was no longer his business where she was at one in the morning.

I remember everything
every smile
even all the reasons why
you say
I pushed you out of my mind

Nick knew he should be happy to have some time off from touring and such an intense relationship, but how could he be? All he could think about was Anne. Thoughts of her filled his head... how they met... their first date... and the break up...

    "Nick," Anne was becoming annoyed.

"Hang on, just let me finish this level!"

"Forget it!" she said, then stormed out of the room. The next thing Nick remembered was a cab.

"Where are you going?" he asked, hurt and confused.

"Nick, you don't care," she said, about to cry, and ignoring his question.

    "Then why would I ask?"

"Nick!" she yelled, "You're not listening to me... you never do. You don't care about us anymore, you never have time to care about us..."

    "I don't understand, you -"

    "Well understand this. It's over."

Destiny is everything
Reality's replaced you with
The biggest emptiness
You've ever had in life

Nick couldn't take it anymore. He knew sitting there thinking about Anne was slowly driving him insane. He needed to think about something else... cars. Cameros are nice... Anne owns a Camero... damn it!

This wasn't working. After a bit of time, Nick finally decided on something that would surely stop him from thinking of her...

Bet you say
that I don't care
bet you say
that I don't even think of you
But god knows how wrong you are

"How do I look?" Anne forced a smile.

"Honestly?" her friend surveyed her, "Never worst."

Anne plopped onto the couch beside Caitlen, "What's wrong with me?"

"Don't you mean who?"

Caitlen was right, and Anne knew it. She hadn't stopped thinking of Nick since she had left him... "What am I gonna do about it?"

"Get over it! You left him, remember?"

"Yeah," Anne sighed, "But not because I stopped loving him... I never stopped loving him. He was just making it so difficult to love him, ya know?"

"No one said being in love was easy."

"You're right," Anne said, "Can I use your phone?"

Baby will you be there
Just give me time
To fix my life
Baby will you be there
When I open my eyes
After all the time I've spent
Wishing you

The phone rang three times, and still no one picked up. The answering machine picked up and Anne decided to leave a message.

Sadness has overwhelmed me
But my thoughts carelessly
Imagine that you're happy
With your life right now
I guess that's just the way life goes
Forever's gone so now I must
Place you with all the things
That I could never have

Nick stood in the basement, holding a gun he had taken from his security gaurd, who was sleeping soundly. He looked sadly at a picture, which he held in his other hand. It was a picture from a much happier time... one of him and Anne on their one year anniversary. "I love you," he whispered to the picture, then he prayed to God she knew just how much he loved her.

Nick pointed the gun at his head, when he heard the phone ring...
