![]() The single was released 1 July 2002 on XL Recordings and 16 July in the USA by Maverick. The respond from the fans wasn't excited and later Liam revealed that the reason for the single release was that XL Recordings demanded Liam to release some new material. Liam didn't want to release the song as a single but he said that he sees the song a as bridge between 'The Fat Of The Land' and their fourth album but also said that the song won't be on the next album. Many reviews claimed that the song sounded too dated and that it was "too-much-the-same". The single entered the UK single chart at number five but it didn't get any air play due to its "Rohypnol" vocals (it is a drug which has a date-rape reputation). The single's world premier was actually in Finland when a radio station Radiomafia started to play it in heavy rotation. A press release was given a couple of weeks before the release of the single: "The Prodigy release their new single, entitled 'Baby's Got A Temper', through XL Recordings on Monday the 1st of July 2002. Menacing, stately British noise, with an eerie sinister groove, 'Baby's Got A Temper' heralds the return of The Prodigy, all guns blazing. Lyrics on the track were written by Keith Flint and music by Liam Howlett. 'Baby's Got A Temper' will be available on CD, DVD and 12. The single is backed with a dub mix and instrumental mix the DVD features the striking new video for the track." The video of the song was directed by Traktor who are a group of Swedish directors who have done many advertisements and music videos - for other XL Recordings artists as well (Basement Jaxx's 'Where's Your Head At' and Layo & Bushwacka's 'Love Story'). The video was shot in Prague in June. Tracks The single contained a three different versions of the track. Promo 12" even contained an accapella (meaning: just the vocals of the song) but it is also available on US Maverick CD single. The final single was version was faster than the original and more guitar based. Main Mix was the version which they performed live and was used for the video. Dub Mix used the same beat as the Main Mix and the vocals were changed. Instrumental was same as the Main Mix without the vocals. The song uses a guitar sample from 'Firestarter'. Records The single was released by XL Recordings as 12" (XLT 145), CD (XLS 145 CD) and DVD (XLS 145 DVD). The first promo 12" was released in June and it was one-sided containing Instrumental mix (BABY 1) and later a DJ promo 12" (XLT 145 DJ) was released. Both promos were available on XL's home pages and they aren't very rare. Various CD-R promos are also available like this XL Recordings promo, 1-trk CD-R promo (XLS 145 CDP) and Virgin CD-R promo. Some distributors released the single as 2-trk cardsleeve single (XLS 145 CDS). In the USA the single was released by Maverick. There is a 1-trk CD promo (PRO-CD-100914) but the commercial single was released only on CD (9 42456-2) but it was enhanced CD and contained the accapella. There are some other CD-R promos available released by Virgin and two different Australian promos, both containing 1 track (SAMP 2467 and SAMP 2480). |
