The
stories of our lives,
by Looking Up. Here goes... |
September 1994. Following assurance from his brother Ian that he learned to play the guitar during his stay in Mexico, Julian, together with JF and Get decided to start a band à la Operation Ivy. Unexpectedly (!...) it turned out that Ian really didn't have a clue! Well, neither did the others.
After a year of struggling Alex joined for the first gig on 2nd guitar and later Cédric the saxophonist. With the line-up complete they recorded a small demo tape. (A year 1/2 after the first-ever jam.)
From then on they played a bunch of concerts around Brussels with local skate/punk/hardcore bands such as Wise Up, Down But Not Out and DV8. The demo tape (of which over 500 copies were lost across the country) along with interviews in 'zines and of course the people who saw Looking Up live, built up a small reputation which eventually reached a small town in East Germany where one Rajko Radke set up a small tour for them across Germany during the month of March 1998. Without his having heard the band beforehand!
The tape also caught the attention of I Scream Records' boss Laurens Kusters who offered them time in a recording studio during november 1997. During the recording, delegates for Epitaph Europe dropped by to check them out. It resulted in the signing of yet an other contract. (wich by the way delayed the release of the album.)
In septembre 98, with the CD finally out and something to promote, Rajko 'organized' the best he could a tour of Europe which spanded over 2 months and took them to such countries as Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, England and Slovenia. Revealing to them the harder aspects of a very punk tour.
Since then they managed to follow the Voodoo Glow Skulls for 10 dates on their tour in March 99. Other achievments include opening for such acts as Strung Out, King Prawn, Warzone, Burning Heads, SNFU ... and playing the summer festivals (Dour, Nandrin, Festival du Devenir and the Vans Warped Tour).
These gigs exposed Looking Up to larger audiences but they still have a preference for smaller venues which offer a more intimate contact with the audience.
Nowadays, Looking Up is working on a new album which they expect to be released at the beginning of the much anticipated year 2000. So keep your eyes peeled for that !
Thanx (for loving us.)
Since then the band has split... We are sorry... See ya...
