The Cowboy Junkies played live at
Bohager's Bar and Grill in Baltimore, MD
Thursday, Oct 8, 1998.
Bohager's is bar located in an old warehouse building, in a mostly industrial
section of the city, just to the East of the Inner Harbor. The concert
was standing room only, with the stage area taking up about 1/3 of the
space in the room so everyone was close to the stage. The room was so small
that the lighting directors board was in the middle of the bar. Margo comment
that he probably has people coming up during the show asking for a beer.
Margo then asked him to make her a margarita and 2 manhattans for the other
singers. Just as at the Philadelphia concert, Margo had problems with a
song. She was singing "Miles from Our Home" and got to the second verse
and couldn't remember the words. They band kept on playing. She shook her
head and then picked up a black note book off the stage and paged through
it for about a minute, while Michael tried to get her attention. She found
the correct page, and said to the audience "I got it now.", and went into
the second verse. When she got to the part of the song that goes "That's
where I want to be, out there searching, out here fumbling.." she smiled
and giggle a bit. The band got even with her but not ending the song. Margo
is supposed to repeat the words "Miles From Our Home " about 5 time
at the end of the song and then the band end the song, but the band kept
on going and Margo had to repeat the line about 12 times. She looked over
at Michael and he had a big smile on his face. After that Margo said that
now she really does need that margarita she asked for 2 songs before that.
Then one of the stage crew handed margo 2 manhattans and Margo passed them
back to the other singers. They stage crew person the handed Margo other
glass,. It was another Manhattan. She said that it wasn't what she asked
for but it just might do the trick to clear her head so she can remember
the words to the songs. Margo later talk about what she does to kill time
while at the hotel before a show. She said that she wakes up in the afternoon
and turns on the tv in the hotel room and starts surfing through the channels.
A few days before she had been at a hotel that had over 200 TV channels,
and she was going through the channels and found one that had nothing but
Andy Grififf. "Nothing but Andy Grififf Show and Matlock all day" she said.
"who watches those show?...really bad television shows like that were gone
I thought" she continued. She then said "this next song is dedicated to
all the really bad tv show out there.....It's called 'A Common Disaster'"
The last song of the night was and incredible version of the song "Me
and the Devil". The song was written and performed by blues guitarist
Robert Johnson in the late 1930's. Michael Timmins is one hell of a guitar
player. He also has pretty good taste in clothing, he was wearing a Philadelphia
Flyers t-shirt that night. (I'm from Philadelphia)
Margo was wearing a purple button down collared shirt, with a long black
print skirt. Before Margo she came out to sign autographs Margo changed
cloths, into a black shirt and tan pants. After the concert Margo autographed
2 items for me, cover of Lay It Down CD, and a photo taken
of Margo and me the month before at the Philadelphia concert.
