Chapter 13

"What?!" Christina shrieked into the phone.

"Yep," Jessi said with a laugh, "Taylor and I are going out."

"Oh, wow," Christina said. "I knew I wanted to come visit you, but now I know I REALLY do."

"I bet you do," Jessi teased. "Especially since you have the hots for Isaac!"

"I admit, I love his brown eyes, his face, his hair, his body," Christina said with a giggle.

"Oh, I wish you could be here tomorrow."

"Why?" Christina asked.

"I'm auditioning for a girl group."

"Which song are you going to sing?"

"I don't know yet."

"Why don't you sing 'Baby, One More Time'?"

I was considering that one, but what would I wear?" Jessi asked.

"You could wear your leather pants. No, how about your plaid skirt with the white blouse that ties in the middle of your stomach?"

"I should wear that!" Jessi exclaimed. "I'd look just like Britney did in the video."

"I know you'll do great."

"Thanks, Christina. I just wish you could be here."

"Me too. I'm sorry, I need to go, Jessi."

"OK, I'll talk to you later, Christina."

"Yeah, bye, Jessi."

"Bye, Christina."

Jessi hung up the telephone and began working on her homework.

"Hey, Isaac," Taylor said.

"What?"

"Jessi really wants her friend Christina to see her audition tomorrow."

"Jessi is auditioning?" Isaac questioned.

"Yeah. She is auditioning for a girl group."

"She can sing? Cool," Isaac said.

"Yeah, and she misses her friend Christina. I was wondering if we could get her here by tomorrow."

"How? We don't know her phone number."

"You could call information, Isaac."

"But she's YOUR girlfriend, Taylor."

"I know, but I don't like calling people. You know how shy I am on the phone."

"OK," Isaac said as he picked up the phone and began dialing. "What's her last name?"

"Johnson."

"What city?" the operator asked.

"New York," Isaac replied.

"What state?"

"New York."

"What name?"

"Christina Johnson."

Jessi was nervous all day. She hoped to do well that afternoon. Judy kept inspring her all day. The worst part was that Isaac, Taylor, and Zac would be there. She hoped that she didn't screw up in front of her boyfriend. The afternoon finally came. She had changed clothes and was sitting in the front row. She had gone out on her outfit. She was wearing her plaid skirt, knee socks, loafers, a short, low-cut red shirt with the white shirt tied in the middle of her stomach over it and she had even fixed her hair into two braided pig tales.

Most of the girls that had auditioned before Jessi were so nervous that their moves looked mechanical. Jessi hoped her moves didn't look like that. She didn't have long to hope. "Jessi Jones, you're up," Judy said cheerfully.

Jessi took a deep breath and walked to the stage. As the music began, she did a back flip. She did her moves perfectly. Her notes were just right. She thought she did an excellent job. When the song ended, the crowd was roaring. She thought nothing could be better until she looked to the back of the auditorium and saw Christina.
