Chapter 20

The next morning, Jessi awoke to find a red rose sitting beside her radio. Puzzled, she walked into her living room, and found Taylor casually sitting on her couch. When their eyes met, he flashed her that gorgeous smile of his. Jessi ran to him and gave him a big hug and kiss. "What are you doing here?" she exclaimed happily.

"We were snowed out for the stuff in New York, so I thought I'd come spend Christmas with you," Taylor said.

"Oh, thank you!" Jessi said as she wrapped her arms around him. Taylor returned her hug, and shamefully glanced at the coffee table where he had put her journal. "I'm fixing to go make us breakfast," Jessi said. "The only rule is, you can't help."

"What am I supposed to do then?"

"You can just sit here and wait," Jessi said and walked towards the kitchen. I wonder what I'll fix him, Jessi thought as she looked in the refrigerator. I know, I'll fix him bacon, eggs, and my grandmother's home-made biscuits. She began pulling things out of the refrigerator as she smiled.

Taylor felt awful. He had arrived at Jessi's apartment about half an hour before she awoke. He had placed the rose by her radio and watched her sleep for a few minutes. Then he went to her living room and noticed her open journal and pen. He was just going to pick it up for her, but he saw his name, and couldn't help reading her journal. What he read made his heart jump. Jessi was considering breaking up with him! He couldn't get that thought out of his head as he sat there while Jessi fixed breakfast. He couldn't live without her. I will make more time for her, he vowed.
