Chapter 29

Jessi jerked awake in the middle of the night. Her heart was pounding and she was pouring with sweat.

Taylor instantly awoke. "What's the matter, Jessi?"

"Nothing," she lied.

"It was something," Taylor said.

"Just a bad dream," Jessi said.

"Oh, OK," Taylor said as he put his arms around her and leaned his head back on the couch pillow.

Jessi lay awake for the next hour thinking about her dream. She had dreamt of Taylor. It was about five years in the future. Taylor was sitting on the side of the street. He had on old, worn-out clothes. Isaac and Zac passed him and they were dressed in fancy suits and ties.

"Too bad mom and dad had to sell the house," Isaac said to Zac.

"Too bad Taylor didn't stay in the band."

"But I loved Jessi," Taylor said through chattering teeth.

"Yeah, and look what it got you," Isaac said as Jessi put her arms around him.

"Pathetic," Jessi said as she snubbed her nose at Taylor. "I can't believe I ever went out with him."

"You probably would still be with him if he hadn't dropped out of the band," Zac pointed out.

"Here," Isaac said as he dropped a $100 bill beside Taylor.

As Jessi's dream faded, she knew that Taylor would have to pick his music, which meant she would have to do something that would kill her.

The next morning was crazy. Jessica, Avery, and Mackenzie each presented Jessi with going away presents. They had each made her a card. They had also made her a necklace. "It's beautiful," Jessi said as she put the string of beads around her neck. Jessica, Avery, and Mackenzie beamed. Jessi saw Taylor walk by and jumped up to meet him. "Taylor, I need to talk to you."

"What is it?" Taylor asked.

"Listen, I've been thinking alot about us, and ........" Jessi began but was interrupted by Zac.

"Come on, Tay, we need to go do a quick sound check."

Taylor looked at Jessi and said, "What is it?"

"I'll tell you later," Jessi said.

The rest of that morning was spent getting last minute things together for her trip and spending some time with the kids. As she, Jessica, Avery, Mackenzie were coloring, Mackenzie said, "I'm really going to miss you, Jessi."

"I'm going to miss you, too," Jessi said softly.

"I consider you one of my sisters," Mackenzie said. That statement made Jessi's eyes water. Whether she realized it or not, she had become part of the family.

"Can we write you letters?" Jessica asked.

"Of course you can!" Jessi exclaimed. Isaac, Taylor, and Zac then came in from their sound check.

"I'm going to take a shower," Taylor said.

As Jessi watched Taylor leave, she saw Isaac motion for her to come in the kitchen. Jessi excused herself from the children and went into the kitchen.

"What is it?" she asked Isaac.

"I just want to thank you for talking to Taylor. He seems so much happier now that he is involved with music again."

"That's good," Jessi asked.

"He's even thinking of writing a song about you."

"What," Jessi exclaimed. "Why?"

"He says that he loves you so much that he wants to write a song for you."

"Oh, no," Jessi said as she put her hands over her face.

"What?" Isaac asked.

"You don't know what I have to do."
