Chapter 1

It had been 3 months since she had seen Taylor, but he was still on her mind. Jessi picked up the picture of her and Taylor. She still loved him so much! She threw the picture against the wall in frustration and broken glass covered the floor. She walked to her desk and picked up her bottle of depression pills.

A few weeks later, Isaac walked into the Hanson living room. He had just retrieved the mail.

"Taylor, there's a package for you," Isaac said to his brother. Taylor didn't respond. Isaac looked at his pale brother. In the past three months, Taylor had become a dark person. He hardly talked to anyone. All he would do was write in his journal and look at the picture of him and Jessi. It hurt Isaac to see his brother like this. Isaac glanced at the return address and saw that it was from New York. "It's from New York," Isaac said to Taylor.

"I don't care!" Taylor snapped. "Can't you people understand that I want to be left alone?" With that, Taylor stormed to his room, slammed the door, and started playing that hard-core music he had begun to listen to. Isaac sighed and sat on the couch. He looked at Taylor's package. It was from Christina.

I wonder what she wants, Isaac thought. He pulled out his pocket knife and slit open one end of the package. He pulled out a shoe box and took off the lid. There was a folded note on top of a stack of papers and an envelope filled with pictures. Isaac unfolded the letter and began reading.

Isaac,
I know this is addressed to Taylor, but if he is like Jessi, then he probably isn't accepting mail or talking to anyone. I hate writing this letter because this is a tragedy letter. A few weeks ago, Jessi tried committing suicide.

Isaac gasped when he read the sentence. He slowed his heart, took deep breaths, and began reading again.

She had obviously been looking at a picture of her and Taylor, because there was broken glass all over her floor. She had overdosed on her depression pills. That's what the doctors said, to save the family public embarassment, but I know the truth. How? Because I read her journal while she was in the hospital. She took 35 depression pills! After taking them, she lost consciousness and hit her head on the corner of her desk. Her mother found her 45 minutes later, which means that the pills had 45 minutes to circulate in her blood system. She is in a coma! The doctors don't think she has a very good chance of surviving. Please tell Taylor. I think that if he came up here, then Jessi would have a chance of surviving. She has been so miserable since she left Tulsa. Enclose are some journal entries and some recent pictures. I know I have violated her privacy, but I feel it was necessary. I hope you can help her!
Christina

Isaac could not believe what he had just read. Jessi had tried committing suicide and now she was in a coma in the hospital. Before I tell Taylor, I'm going to read some of her journal entries, Isaac thought.
