Chapter 3

Dear Journal, 6/27

I'm getting into some bad things. I miss Taylor so much. I'm involved with a group of people I know I shouldn't be involved with, but they keep my mind off the Hanson family. Actually, what they do keeps my mind off the Hanson family. I just got home from a party. A party that had alcohol. I only had two drinks, so I'll be OK. I had just enough to where I felt relaxed. Other kids at the party were smoking, but I decided not to do that. A cool girl showed me how to cut my wrists, in case I ever decide I need the information.

Isaac threw the papers across the room. He had read enough. How could Jessi think these things were going to solve her problems?! Isaac looked at the envelope that was left in the shoe box. He opened it and pulled out some pictures. He gasped in horror at what he saw. Jessi, sweet, innocent Jessi, was covered in black from head to toe. She had a white powdered face with black eyeliner, black lipstick, black everything. This was NOT the Jessi that had been here last year!

Isaac had to get in touch with Christina. He looked in the catch-all drawer and scrambled around until he found the slip of paper with Christina's phone number. He remembered how he had called her last year to come see Jessi's audition. He sighed sadly at the memory. He dialed Christina's number.

"Hello."

"May I speak to Christina?" Isaac asked.

"This is she," Christina said.

"Hi, Christina. This is Isaac."

"Hi, Isaac. I take it you got my package?" Christina said.

"Yes," Isaac sighed.

"How many journal entries did you read?"

"One and a half," Isaac replied.

"Did you look at the pictures?"

"Yes," Isaac said, "and I was shocked. Do you know anymore information?"

"She.......tried slicing her wrists last month," Christina said.

"WHAT?!" Isaac yelled. "What is her problem?"

"She loves your brother," Christina snapped. "I'm sorry," she apologized. "She is really hurt about what happened with her and Taylor. She was taking heavily medicated depression pills. One of her depression pills was equivelent to about three normal pills."

"It was like a triple dose!" Isaac exclaimed.

"Yes," Christina said sadly.

"Oh my God," Isaac breathed.

"Have you told Taylor?"

"Not yet," Isaac said. "I don't know how to tell him."

"Let him read the journal entries."

"I hope he'll let me even talk to him."

"Me too."

"I'm fixing to go talk to him. Thanks, Christina."

"You're welcome. Good luck."

"Thanks. Bye, Christina."

"Bye, Isaac."
