It is very good to see that notable initiative of label Rotthenness in the third edition, it is a compilation dedicated to all metal styles, of the crust to the grind, of the death to the heavy and it reason is very noble because the money is reverted for an association of deafs. Now they are 33 bands, a lot of quality noise, going to rotten crust from "Empty Grave" to "Death Slam's" technical death, still going by the dadaism rock of the "Os Legais" and for the grind withe metal of Antidemon, unassuming other great names of the Brazilian underground as NYxBelzebu, Jason and the participations of Nyctophobic(from Germany) and of Gurkkhas (from France). NOMED - A Vision of God (MCD - Putrefaction - France).  It can seem incredible but that French band exists since 1986!!! NOrDREAM - Memories Progression (CD - Metalagen/Valiant - Russia). Progressiive metal grew in last years and good bands was born around the world,   Russia have now great new names of this kind of metal like SPECTER and, of course NOrDREAM. "Memories Progression" is an good album where the band invest in dense guitars atmospheres and some musical experiments that have echoes of prog rock, psycodelic rock and grunge. This mixture are special and the result is a very good CD with some magic moments. Perhaps the only problem of the band is been to extend too much in some musics, but anything that commits the work. ODES OF ECSTASY - Deiceitful Melody (CD - The End - Greece). ODES OF ECSTASY exist since 1993 and already is an underground legend of the atmospheric symphonic metal. This second album is a beautiful masterpiece of visionary neo-classical epic symphonic metal, a lesson of intense arrangements, classical keyboards, heavy guitars and dream female vocals/chorus with nightmare dark male voices. Breaking the barriers of all the styles and creating some unprecedented musical pieces as the epic opening track "Ignorance ", the hymn of the spheres " The Floating City of Sun " and the heavy/sweet/sensual " The Conqueror Worm " with the lyric taked by on Edgar Allan Poe. SABAISM - The Unborn Dawn (MCD - Self Produced - Switzerland). SABAISM is really a great surprise, the band exist since 1993 with the old name Crommon and the boys demonstrate that learned a lot on those years of career!!! This MCD is intense, agressive, fast and melodic, the black/death metal made by Sabaism put the band side to side to the great names of the style. THe vocal lines are creative and agressive, creating atmospheres of gothic melancholy and killing destruction like in the best track "The Unborn Dawn". SAINTS OF EDEN - Proteus (CD - Metech - UK). We already reviewd the first release of that creative project. SAINTS OF EDEN is an iImpressive dark techno industrial one man band coming from England. This second album is powerful and will be loved by all metallers with open mind. It is electronic music with extreme & deep feelings, a kind of Draktechno Cyberpunk, a killer fusion of hardcore, techno, industrial & metal, with darkness vocals The mind behind this original second millenium soundtrack is Cian Houchin, vocalist, composer and writer. The music "Zero" is an extreme nihilistic dark hymn with an strange enigmatic lyric, this is one of the good moments of PROTEUS, already a classic album. SHADOW MASK - Talking to the Night - (CD - Megahrad - Brazil). THIS IS SIMPLE THE BEST POWER MELODIC ALBUM FROM BRAZILIAN METAL, all good words don't demonstrate the beauty and emotion that this work has!!! It is a dream, a sweet metallic dream where all instruments have power and feeling, all vocals have the perfect time and interpretation, it is a masterpiece of epic power metal with an incredible classic touch, including: violins, cellos, pianos, sopranos vocals and great guitars/basses/keyboards too! We don't  highlighting any music because everybody is excellent it has that air of epic  as the title track, "Reign of Goddess", "Talking to the Night" and  "Evil Night". The final track is an curious gratefulness to all the people that participated in the CD and to the that gave support to the band, an exemple of humility and love to the music!! Formed by ex members of legendary thrash Brazilian bands from eighties as ATTOMICA and THOR, Silence Means Death shows a lot of agility in that first work.Heavy guitars with ripping corpse and torn vocals, rhythm insane and darkness climates. SPECTER - Images of the Innocent (CD - Metalagen/Valiant - Russia). Russia allready have its progressive metal kings and his name is SPECTER! This CD is very impressive in all aspects: fabulous musicians, complex compositions, creative melodies, an great sense of prog atmospheres, beautiful lyrics and cover & too an great CD-Rom video of the song "Temple of Ice". The music is a mix of prog metal influences: Dream Theater, Stratovarious and Fates warning, but SPECTER have your own personality, the vocals isn't melodic, and the vocalist invest in a type of sighs and whispers that give one of the most emblematic items of SPECTER's personality. SYNDROME - Time Perpetuating (CD - Dynamo - Brazil). Syndrome already is a kind of legend in underground metalic scene of south brazilian and that debut CD was waited with anxiety by all its fans.The band makes an intelligent heavy metal with some death/thrash touches where the personals Nyva Evaristo's vocals (with echoes of King Diamond) and the guitar duets are the strong point. Some compositions have complex & interesting musical structures like "Black Paradise" and "Hell Party", but the power and feeling don't get lost. SYRENS CALL -Fantasea (CD - Brennus - France). Marvelous cover artt, beautiful logo...and incredible music!!! Yes this is the new revelation of melodic metal coming from France. The sound is a kind of prog-melodic-epic metal with inspired female vocals capitained by the godess Valérie Paul, her voice isn't sweet or putridy, is a mix of Geof Tate & Andre Mattos with Nightwish female vocal touches, the musicians are very good and the compositions have the perfect feeling without shit musical masturbations (like in bands how Dream Theater...). The lyrics are another highligth point, they are very creatives like in "Heresy(The Trial of Galileo)" that talk about the church process against Galileo Galilei, this is my favourite song of the album but I loved very much another songs as the enigmatic "Far Way"and the deep "Storm". THE DISMAL - Make Your Mind Up (CD - Division House - Spain) - This is a good new revelation come from Spain, a country without great names in metal scene. THE FALLEN - The Tones In Which We Speak (CD - Self Produced -USA). Great thrash - death metal band coming from California, this album is a masterpiece of heavy midtempos, agressive rifs and crude vocals. The band remember very much the famous band SACRED REICH (in the best phase!)Mike Granat vocal's are very seemed to the REICH's vocals but isn't a clone. 10 powerful tracks with a good production, the best moments are: "Harbinger" (simple insane, with a great bass work), "To Dust"(savage and dense with an incredible deep intro & furious vocals). THOTEN - Beyond The Tomorrow (CD - Metal Gallery - Brazil). Brazil has been a cradle of great bands of epic melodic and power metal revealing for the world names as VIPER, ANGRA, STEEL WARRIOR and more recently SHADOWS MASK and this THOTEN. The band was already very known by its great shows in the scenery underground and everybody was anxious to listen that first work. THOTEN overcame our expectations and created a true masterpiece of power metal, surprising us above all with the beauty and energy of its music that is composed of refined compositions, replete of feeling with an excellent instrumental work in the guitars and in the keyboard, vocalist Renato Tribuzy is one of the big of the style in Brazil and to continue will be like this also one of the big of the world. The work has Kiko Loureiro's production (famous guitarist of ANGRA) that still gave more precision for the music of THOTEN helping to create true power hymns as " Above The Law"(gets to remind JUDAS PRIEST) and " Altar of Freedom ". The only bad point of the album is the cover art, very ugly, such a good work it deserved a better cover. Candidate to enter for the list of the best albums of brazilian power metal. TON - Plague (CD - Seething - USA). Ton is a well-known band in the American underground, it was founded in 1993 and released 4 well happened demos before the debut full lenght "Plague". Ton's music is a intense brutal death metal withou concessions, fury and agressivity are the law in 8 tracks that compose this album. A kind of furious modern metal that will please the listeners with open mind to new sonorities. UMBAKRAIL - Dome (MCD - Self Produced - France ). Strange, expperimental and interesting one man black metal band coming from France. S'aamed is the mind behind this project, only four tracks where we can feel the epic atmosphere created by synths, guitars and obscure deep voices, sometimes we can listen echoes of the undreground french black metal cult band BLUT AUS NORD, but UMBAKRAIL is more experimental and climatic. The drum machine is used with mastery by the musician and the doses of heavy and melody is very balanced in the 4 tracks. We are already anxious to hear UMBRAKAIL's debut album. UNSILENCE - Transfiguration (MCD - Self Produced - UK). Great work, a kind of atmospheric heavy doom with clean vocals and slow melodic guitars in the line of doom acts like PARADISE LOST(old) & ANATHEMA. The band exist since 1993, is strange to notice that is still so unknown because its music is very inspired and beautiful. The guitar soles of Kieron Tuohey are the melodic mark of the band. Only 3 good songs, we want to listen more!!!!!! The best music in my opinion is "Once were Embers", with an emotive violin lament in the beginning. UNVEILED/ TRAUMA - (Split CD - Psychic Scream - Malaysia/Indonesia). The asian bands already have technic and feeling to assault the east!!! Unveiled come from Malaysia and its sound is a putrid agressive brutal death in the style of Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Deeds of flesh and another gore splatter acts like old carcass, the lyrics talk about cadaveric putrrefaction & cannibalistic acts, any novelty, but gret band for grindgore lovers. Trauma come from the improbable Indonesia and invest in a kind of brutal extreme metal with hurt dog vocals, the guitar mass is very impressive and the midtempos are the more interesting point of the five compositions, the best is "Impulse to Create". Good release from Psychic Scream, one of the best labels from Asia. XENOMORPH - Baneful Stealth Desire (CD - System Shock - The Netherlands). Furioous death-thrash metal with black touches coming from The Netherlands. Musically they sound as a mixture of the bands from eighties thrash with the nineties black, uniting influences of SEPULTURA, KREATOR, ARTILLERY, DEICIDE, DIMMU BORGIR & CRADLE OF FILTH and others. The music is violent and without concessions, pure destruction from beginning to end. If the death thrash is your favorite style this band will leave you very happy and creepy! VAMPIRIA - "Mamong Mortals"( CD - Icarus - Argentine) MARVELOUS!!! DIVINE!!! This is some words that we think when listened the debut album "Among The Mortals" from argentinian masters VAMPIRIA. The band was created in 1997 in the small town of Olavarria, and is a great revelation of new black darkwave metal, all aspects of the debut album are perfect, symphonic atmospheres clean/furious vocals, climatic keyboards and creative lyrics resulting in unforgettable musics as Brother Wolf (The Pathg of Seventh moon) and the epic "Crown of Crows". The female voices are included with good taste and the guitar melodies compose an impressive power& doom metal balance of atmospheres. This CD is a impressive opus with fenomenal melodic work & heavy midtempos. The first influences are CRADLE OF FILTH and another melodic vampiric/black metal acts by don't think that VAMPIRIA is an simple clone because this band have great personality and creativity! WARLUST - The Final War (MCD - Self Produced ). Warlust described its style how "Terroristic War Metal". But actually the music that the band does is a competent and agressive true black metal with strong roots in legends as GORGOROTH, MARDUK, IMMORTAL & DARKTHRONE. The work presents a great black metal musical knowledge of the band, and we are before an act that will certainly still be prominence in the scenery black metal. Another good point of WARLUST is the slow parts of its music where the sharp rifs gives place to dark melodies, as in insane " Diabolical Hordes ". WHAT'S NEW IN BALTIMORE - A Compilation of Baltimore's Best Progressive Rock (CD - CYBERELLA - USA). MARVELOUS!!!! This compilation is great, it bring 8 progressive -experimental bands from Baltimore's scene, all them very interesting and this work prove that progressive rock since is stronger in underground scene. The first band is TREPHINE MD and the track "Uroboros"is a kind of instrumental heavy psychodelic prog experiment with intense midtempos, complex and misterious. KURGAN'S BANE is the second, the band invest in a kind of hard prog where the personal voice of Lisa Francis is the great prominence, her voice has an intensity and tonality very special and emotive, the instrumentals are deep hard'n prog based in guitars (I reviwed yhe first album of KURGAN'S BANE in this section). SONUS UMBRA, the third band, is simple marvelous, an deep progressive voyage inspired by PINK FLOYD, GENESIS & KING CRIMSON, the band creates an beautiful balance of deep atmospheres with personality and feeling that leave our souls to the occult earths of the heart. DARK WATER TRANSIT is one the more experimentals acts of the album, an instrumental trio with jazz & electronic prog influences, very curious & intense. UNCLE GUT is the most original act of the album, a power trio that invests in a crazy experimental instrumental heavy fusion creating strange climates breaking prog musical boundaries, in some moments remember some psychodelic experiments of 70's Alice Cooper Band!!! The next band is DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY, it sounds like 80's experimental prog rock, very technic and virtuous with stronger jazz influences like some RIO (rock in Opposition) movement bands.
