Kicking a person out of channel |
As a channel Op, you can make people leave the channel, the term used is to kick someone out of channel |
Kicking a person should not be used for fun, some channel operators become known as "trigger happy", meaning that they kick for everything and for nothing. If there are trigger happy operators in a channel, then 2 things might happened. People don't join the channel, because a kick is kinda interrupting for the flow in a channel. Or people will come in big numbers just to annoy the trigger happy operator, and this will for sure ruin the channel, as a good place. |
A kick it self, is like a warning, and the reason that it is a warning is that the person is free to rejoin the channel, without problems. Therefore, after a normal kick you will sometimes find yourself in a discussion about the kick with the person you kicked. Do not go into discussions about this matter, tell straight why you kicked, and end the discussion with this. If the person keeps it up then kick ban the person, with a time limited ban, that will give the person time to calm down a little and think. The banning you can read about in another section of these pages. |
If you see an operator kick someone, and you do not understand why, do not ask about it in channel, ask in Op notices, or in private. If the operators want to look like a unit, it is important that they act like a unit in channel. |
When you kick a person then try always to use a kick with a reason, that way you in a fast way tell the channel what happened. |
Try only to kick for things that goes on in channel, if 2 people in channel are fighting in private, try make them keep it in private, and do not get into peoples private fights. If a person complains about another in the channel about private msg's etc, then ask the person to put the abuser on ignore. This way you give the abused peace, and forces the abuser to go into the open if he/she wants to keep it up, and now it is a channel business and is the channel operators work. |
