FORNICATION - Interview

FORNICATION is one of the new revelations of the south american brutal death metal, the band play a kind of sick e brutal music, with american neo death metal influences and some grind core touches, like in cavernous vocals and imperative crude drums (played by the legendary Maurício Amorim from INFERNAL). The great debut album released by brazilian BLACK HOLE is a signature of the crude & intense energy from this tormented guys. KREPUSKULUM interviewed Gerson (Guitars).

KREPUSKULUM: Talk to us a little about the history of FORNICATION. What is the reason to this name FORNICATION? Do you know the black metal french band with the same name?

Gerson: There is not a real reason to choose this name, it was just choosen by founders Elcio and Flavio. A lot of people ask us if we are a kind of gore porno grind,,,hahahahh. But we are pure death metal and we'll stay in this shit till the end of Fornication! Yes, I know the french Fornication. I think there is no problems with us, the french band are black metal. It's totally different from us. Mags and people in underground won't compare the two bands because is different styles. Well, for me no problems... for the french Fornication I don't know because I'm not in contact with them.

The cover artwork and booklet illustrations of the CD are really interesting and beautiful. Where come from the concept for this art?

All illustrations and drawings was hand-made by Gilberto Yuzo Watanabe, who is my brother. The booklet concept was done by Fernando Camacho from Black Hole Productions. My brother has a great talent to do macabre drawings so I asked him to make our cover. I just say him: I need a cover for our debut album that will be called Descendants Of The Degenerated Race, take a look in our lyrics and good work! We just let him create all the idea for the cover. Then we signed with Black Hole and Fernando asked more additional drawings for the booklet and then he made it!

In some parts of the cover we can see deformed and mutilated corpses, are it the "Descendants of the Degenerated Race"?? Do you show a kind of criticism to the new genetic experiences?

Yes, you're right. Those mutilated corpses are the degenerated race! It's a simbolisation of all madness and waste that all mankind suffered by the hands of the church and its false preachers. Just it. There is no relation to genetic experiences.

In some lyrics like in the title track, you put a very crude critic to the human corporations as politic, relegion and some of our perverted desires...Am I right? Talk to us about the inspiration to create that lyrics.

Yes, you're right again. All lyrics are made by Elcio and me. When I write a lyric I try to show my scepticism and my anger against all religions. I believe in human race (despite all shit we made), not in its gods.

The compositions of FORNICATION are very brutal and agressive, you can listen influences of the 90th death metal and some touches of grind. In your opinion what are the 10 best death metal bands of all time? What are your great influences?

90's death metal is our main influence for sure. But we are still extreme music hunters, Cd collectors, we listen to a lot of new bands so we have influences from the news extreme bands too. My top ten death metal bands: 1)Suffocation 2)Malevolent Creation 3)Monstrosity 4)Cryptopsy 5)Deicide 6)Vader 7)Incantation 8)Nocturnus 9)Morbid Angel 10)Brutality

The brazilian death metal scene are growing now, some bans as KRIZIUN and MENTAL HORROR are very famous in all world, FORNICATION come from the south brazilian like this bands. What do you wait for the future?

I don't know. I respect this bands, but we don't like to be another Krisiun clone. Brazil already have a lot of bands following this way. We only think in spread our name through the underground and make it known. Maybe one day we can live only for/by the band and travel for some tours around the globe. Time will tell.

Do you plan made a tour to promote the furious "Descendants of the Degenerated Race"?

Fucking yes! But only in Brazil by now, we have to do a lot of contacts to plan some european or USA tour. And at this moment we are testing some drummers to replace Mauricio that left the band.

The album include a powerful cover of "Regurgitated Guts" from DEATH, this music is the same that you put in the "Together as one - A Tribute to death" ? Talk to us about the invitation to this project.

Yes, it's the same version. We got this opportunity through our last drummer Mauricio who was playing drums in Infernal in that time. Mondongo Canibale have invited Infernal but they didn't want to record the cover by $$ problems, so Mauricio asked Daniel of Mondongo if Fornication would be participating of the tribute replacing Infernal. He agreed and we too!!! We have no more copies so if anyone wants this tribute ask Mondongo Canibale at www.mongondocanibale.es.vg !

Where come from the inspiration to play this furious and intense kind of music. Do you hate the human race? Do you believe in a good future for the mankind?

I think all our hate in our music comes from our daily routines! You know, a boring job, thing that doesn't work as you want, loss of money, human stupidity and other shit like that. Of course I believe in human race, if I don't in who can I believe now?? God??? hahahahah
