RAVENCLAW Interview

 

Coming from the cold and eternal Lithuania, RAVENCLAW is a new answer for all atmospheric experimental viking metal lovers, the album ´Where Mighty Ravens Fly´ is a masterpiece of strange and deep climates that go to the crude by the sweetness. KREPUSKULUM interview Ruslanas, one of the two masterminds behind this great project.

 

KREPUSKULUM: Before all, talk to us about the creation of RAVENCLAW, the reason for this name and the real proposal of the band.

Ruslanas: At first Alex had idea recording only 1 track.We done that.And after that we liked what we done and was born idea release full stuff!

 

You see your music like a new real kind of vikink atmospheric music, I´m right? What is your conection with the viking culture? Is Lithuania an older location for the vikings?

No Lithuania havent nothing simillar with vikings.Lithuania are last pagan country in the world...But i like culture of vikings.I like old cultures.Alex like too!And we thought that will be great create lyrics about vikings.......We have special sound....We dont copy other bands.....And i think that really nothing cant say that we copy other bands.....Ofcourse our stuff like not everyone.....But it is natural.......Arent bands whoes like each people.We do what we want....And have some new ideas.At this moment we work on new album.And we found new member DIMO DIMO (SVARROGH/HATRED DIVINE bands -Bulgaria/Germany).

What are the reason to ´Cult´ the viking culture?

I think that vikings had really interesting and personal culture.....

More of your compositions are based in keyboards and classic arrangments. Do you consider your music a kind of heavy metal?

I told that we have specific sound......Really hard work together,when one member live in Lithuania,other member in Austria....And new member live in Germany.......But each album not simillar to each other!First about vikings.....Second will be about old battle"Zalgirio musis" and lyrics in Lithuanian...And we have a idea third album release like folk metal........And possible for us help much more musicians and from different countries!I think that really interesting idea...Will see later.

What are the bands and musicians that inspirate the RAVENCLAW music?

We dont copy other bands......But each member listen different music.I and Alex listen from heavy to black.death......And i cant say much about DIMO ,but i think that he like diffeerent music too.

In the album you include a beautiful and deep cover for BURZUM´s HERMODR A HELFERD. Do you like only the sweet and melodic songs of BURZUM or you love the extreme tracks too? Do you like another kinds of metal as BLACK METAL, DEATH METAL and GRIND CORE?

At first this idea by Alex.Im not a big fan of BURZUM....But of course i like some tracks. I like all kinds of metal,except grind,core,noise,industrial...

Does RAVENCLAW intend to give some gigs to promote the album or the band is only a studio project? What do you think about bands like BATHORY that never play alive??

I cant say nothing about BATHORY....But i think that they can do what they want...About us......Absolutely impossible have gigs of RAVENCLAW.........We live in different countries,Alex play a big part of instruments...But who know.Maybe we can will do that in one day.We find more musicians and meet each other and have great time and possible can show some gigs...But at this moment really impossible.

You have an interesting compilation project named ATLANTIDA and already release more than 17 editions of it. Talk to us about this project and about the repercution in the underground world scene.

Thanks for good words.I had a idea release compil. in 99...I started with tapes(vol.1-7). And from vol.8 all volumes on CD(CDR)...All artworks by Mike(big thanks!) from DRAGON DESIGN, at this moment i collect bands for vol.20 I want support bands.....And im happy that peoples like my releases! On vol.1-19 are about 280 bands!

Talk to us about the creative process behind the fabulous songs like ´A VIKING JOURNEY´ and WELTENBRAND. Do you think your music like a movie soundtrack?

Hi yes you are right...We use some soundtrack episods in our music...But possible we change our idea in near future...Waiting our new releases!
