Coming
from the obscure caves of the germanic underground the legendary brutal death
metal holocaust called HARMONY DIES aborted their new aggressive piece of crude
death metal "Impact", released by the great label MORBID RECORDS, this
is the real proof of the power and cruelty of this furious act, a real lesson of
true brutality and fury, one of the best death metal albums of the new era.
Krepuskulum interviewed Kai (guitars).
KREPUSKULUM:
HARMONY DIES borned in the beginning of the 90th and the band release
a lot of demos, splits (the first of it was released with the great KRISIUN) ,
Eps and albums. Talk to us about the band history and the proposal of your
music.
KAI:
Yeah we started back 1992 , as young people who wanna make Metal band in the
death metal style, soon we had the first demo “living corpses”,
but there where the first problems with the line up too. Over the years
we had several changes, but they were all friendly and caused by the change of
personal interest and stuff like that . We try to raise our skills in playing
our instruments and writing songs, and I believe we did some good stuff till
now, there will be enough more to do, but we´re still here to do that, we´ll
see.
HARMONY
DIES is a perfect name for a death metal band. Where come from the idea to put
this name in the band? Are the inverted musical note (see in the logo and in the
back cover of the new album) the symbol of your music?
We
like the name too, it came from a song title of a cool old school black Band
from Britain, and we decide that this fits absolutely, and so we had the name
for the band. We used the inverted Note nearly since the beginning, and it
became a symbol for H.D. , we like it it´s not that normal thing all the bands
use, like inverted cross , pentagram and so on.
The
cover art of the new album "Impact" are very curious and interesting,
it remember me the biomechanoids by H.R.Giger, wuth a curious mix between
organic and metallic. What is the meaning of the cover for you?
That’s
right we are fans of all that biomechanical stuff and so we used it a lot over
the years, we got an friend who painted the cover for us and we tell him our
ideas for that album and title, and he did a realy good work in my opinion,
the main idea is that all has an “impact” on you it comes from
anywhere and bring something to your life , the question is how you will handle
that. And that’s up to us all.
The
music of HARMONY DIES is very powerful and technique, with creative riffs and
interesting drums grooves. What are your inspiration to create your music? What
are your influences?
Thanx,
this is realy hard to say , cause evry single one has different influences,
first of all we all like Metal, that´s the main thing, and so evrybody has his
personal music, one like more Black stuff, other more old school Death Metal,
american style Death, so we had some ideas who come to an mix of all these
personal influences. The most of the songs were done by Torsten(drums) and
Ulf(guitar) and myself (kai-guitar) and
we had an good feeling as we done the stuff, it was like the songs were already
written , we just gave them a form to present, the two guys just came into the
band and we worked very well together, that was great.
The
names of all musics of the new album have only a word, such as
"Narcotic", Blessing", "Inside", Suffering", etc.
Which is the reason of that option?
It
cames from my brain , sometimes I have such “funny” ideas, I wann just have
one word who shall describe the song/lyrics , but in the other way it should not
that clear what the title will say, there could be two or more different
possibilities, I like shit like that, sorry
Talk
about the inspiration behind the lyrics such as "Farewell" &
"Subliminal".
Farewell
is an song about an long time friend , who betrayed you , all the years you had
the same life , friends , believes and hates and after his betray you never know
what was real and what it was all about and you just wanna pull the trigger and
say farewell. Subliminal is a song about the subliminal influences of an
perverted profit orientated class of people who just lies , betrays and corupt
the whole society to earn more money and power , with no respect to life.
The
instrumental "InstruMetal" are one the best musics of the album in my
opinion, it has interesting mid-tempos and climates. Will you create more
instrumental music for the next albums?
I
think so we had an instrumental on “master” too, and at the moment I say I
wanna have an instrumental on the next album too,
I will be not that prophetic but we wanna have more midtempo stuff in the
regular songs too. No fear we will
be a fast old school death metal band, but a good mix could be the way.
In
your opinion, what are the ten best 10 albums of the death metal history and
what are the ten best brutal death metal acts now?
That’s
hard man , but in no particualr order :
Suffocation
– all ; Death – Spiritual Healing ; Atheist – all ; Necrophagist – onset
of putrefaction; Cynic – focus; Vader – de profundis ; Dying Fetus –
Putrification through violence; Cannibal Corpse – the bleeding ; Broken Hope
– the loathing; Vital Remains – all
That’s
realy hard I could name more and more

these are my favorite acts at the moment : Profanity(ger); Necrophagist(ger),
Pyamia (nl), Vital remains, Deeds of Flesh, Gorgasm, Krisiun, Monstrosity, ….

The
HARMONY DIES music are very aggressive and brutal, what do you think about the
new wave of melodic death and black metal music (of bands like DIMMU BORGIR, IN
FLAMES, etc) including female voices and classic touches?
I
like a lot of Metal Stuff and if they are well played and have a good sound then
i will check a lot , but i did´nt like them all , if it´s to cheasy or stupid then
i let it for the cheasy mind ;-)
Do
you live of your music? If not what are your another activities?
No
that’s absolutely not possible, we all has to work for our personal income,
Making a band being on tour brings no money for us, we ´re just happy if we had
some to make the recordings and maybe some shirts , most the time we had to put
some money into the band but it is our big hobby and we had a lot fun with that
so we did it and will do.
Which
are the plans for HARMONY DIES'S future?
We
wanna make as much shows as possible, and already working on new stuff. But
there are no plans of an releasedate. We keep on working constantly and will see
what offer we get .
