RAINSPAWN - INTERVIEW

RAINSPAWN- Coming from Rome, the earth of gladiators, this young band is a powerful mix of 80's thrash metal & new power metal influences, it result in a creative & intense heavy metal with personality and feeling! The debut MCD "MESSENGER OF DEATH" released by KICK PROMOTION AGENCY is a real masterpice with marvelos songs like "Power of the Wind". Krepuskulum interviewed the Band.

KREPUSKULUM: Talk to us about the band's beginning? Why do you decide play this kind of music??

DAVIDE(Lead Guitar): We wes formed in 98 like a cover band (Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath,Metallica....) then when Fabrizio joined the band we changed the name in Rainspawn and begin to write original songs. We played power-thrash because is the union of the music that we love.
FRANCESCO(Bass): I've joined the band in the '99 and it was the end of line-up change until the last April when our drummer Roberto Vallati was leave the band 'cause he can't follow the band in every commitment (live show, interviews in radio and tv show ecc....). When I've joined the band the "Rainspawn style" was already the same that you can listen in "Messenger Of Death".

The cover illustrattion and the name of the band remember some new american hero comics, like the famous SPAWN created by McFarlayne. Does These hero influenced you in put this name in the band??

DAVE: Oh no! It's only a concidence!
LUCA(Vocals): Spawn is a great comics and I like it so much! But this haven't influenced the cover illustration or our band name.
FRA: The name of the band was inspired to Fabrizio from the north-italian flood of the '98 autumn: the rage of the rain! The power of the nature! And from this event was inspired the name Rainspawn.

DAVE: The cover illustration was inspired from the lirycs of Reign Of Pain. The song speak about the Mad Max film. During the song we speak about the Messenger Of Death and we have think that was a good idea to use this images!
Roberto was our drummer until last Spring. He design only for hobby.

FRA:Our musical influences are so various: Metallica, Megadeth, Testament, Blind Guardian, Helloween only to cite the most important, but also Nuclear Assoult, Pantera, Rage...
NWOBHM is a very important wave that have contaminate the 80's Heavy Metal, we draw our inspiration from the 80's Metal and surely there is some trace of NWOBHM in our music, than surely you are right!
DAVE: I think that the NWOBHM influences in our sound is very poor!!!

What are the 10 best metal albums in your opinion and the 5 best bands now??

FRA: This is a very difficoult question!!! Probably the best 10 albums, in my opinion, are:
Master of Puppets(Metallica), Powerslave(Iron Maiden), Somewhere far Beyond(Blind Guardian), The Gallery(Dark Tranquillity), Keeper of the seven keys I&II(Helloween), Countdown to extinction(Megadeth), Return to Heaven Denied(Labyrinth), Hatebreder(Children of Bodom), Dead heart in a dead world(Nevermore),The ritual(Testament).
The best 5 bands now (even in my opinion) are: Nevermore, Blind Guardian, Dark Tranquillity, Megadeth, Testament.

LUCA: I've played in some band before to join the Rainspawn. I play also in an another project but is not "metal project" in fact is a Irish Folk band! This project is only a "hobbies band"!!! Rainspawn have the priority over all!!!
About my influences, I like the singer that you have cite, but my favourite influences are the 80's thrash metal singer, like Dave Mustaine, James Hetfield...

DAVE: When I write a guitar melodies I start to play a riff and another one, then another more until I make a good riff.
Then I improvise the melody. Frequently the basis riff made from Fabrizio and very usually we improvise our riff togheter. When the rhythmic is ready I build on the solos.
The solos building is a very impegnative work!!! But I like it so much!!!

FRA: Oh yeah! We like so much this band! But we like so much also other italian band!
The italian scene is very "wild"!!! There is a lot of very good band that can't find the space, it's too difficoult to play live, especially if the band have to play too far from home. The heavy metal club pay a low price also if the band have travel a lot to play here.
There is not a good organization but now the most important italian band have found a Band Organization called Italian Metal Alliance (www.gonow.to/IMA) it's a little step to organize the italian scene!!!

DAVE: Usually the Rainspawn lyrics are written by me and Fabrizio, perhaps on our next album there is something from Luca and Francesco.
LUCA: "Legion Of Chaos" speak about the uman abuse: the stronger that take advantage of the weaker. All this is set on in a immaginary new world order, where the old custom never die! Maybe is a too negative song but I think that this uman abuse never die!

FRA: We like the majority of metal, also the other styles. Personally I prefer Death metal, especially the melodic Death Metal like Dark Tranquillity, In Flames, Children Of Bodom... but also Black like Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Venom, Marduk, Samael...
Personally I don't like New Metal.

FRA: We will record our first full lenght on the next November, than will be ready probably in January. Our album will be so much aggressive compared to "Messenger Of Death".You can follow us throug our internet home page: www.rainspawn.go.to

Talk to us about your gigs. Did you play with some famous italian band?

FRA: On the last spring we have made a little tour with about 25 gig, in the centre and in the north of Italy, but we was the headliner!
We have also played at some metal festival but the headliner was a not international famous band!!! (Drakkar, Kurnalkool...).
We like so much to play live and we are planning a big tour on the next year! We also are planning a little tour outside our country with another italian thrash metal band: Enemynside, but it's too difficoul to play in Italy...imagin that in the rest of Europe!!!
