WYTCHFYNDE - INTERVIEW

8wytchfynde1.jpg (37639 bytes)WYTCHFYNDE- When we listen the album "The Awakening" we feel like a time traveller that awake in the midle of 80's, because this album is a real masterpiece of heavy metal like the icons created in 80's by names as JUDAS PRIEST, ANGEL WITCH & DIO. Great riffs, incredible heavy metal atmospheres and a killer melodic/power vocal. The legendary vocalist LUTHER BELTZ (The Dark One) answered our questions.

KREPUSKULUM: Talk to us about the band's beginning? In the promotional picture of the album we can saw that you aren't so young (except by one), you played in other bands??

LUTHER BELTZ: In September 1999 I was contacted by Unbroken Metal Magazine (Rudiger Abend) Germany, requesting an interview. After it's release (Dec. 1999) I received phone calls from all over the world, press and old fans, asking me to record another album. I had already done two in the 80's: Cloak and Dagger and Lords of Sin with the old Witchfynde. The band split in '85. I asked Dave and Ronnie from Stormwatch to hook up with me. I then phoned Rick from Frontier. Terry we saw beating hell out of his skins in a bar and we knew then he was the drummer we needed. WYTCHFYNDE WAS CENTRE STAGE!!

The cover illustrattion and some music names remember us the death/black metal aesthetic. What is the meaning of this artwork and wath is the reason to select this morbid kind of illustrattion?

The artwork, yeah, Bleak, Wild, Isolated. Bleak, 'cause would people wanna hear it? We just didn't fuckin know! Wild, we had some crazy times recording it. The music was so orgasmic and the lyrics outrageous and sometimes deep. Isolated, if we failed we were out in the cold, thankfully it was well received by fans and press alike.

The influences of the band are the 80's heavy metal gods, I'm right ? Wath are the 10 best metal albuns in your opinion and the 5 best bands now??

My ten best Metal Albums: 1 Ressurection, Halford. 2 The Awakening, Wytchfynde. 3 Blizzard of Oz, Ozzy. 4 Unleashed in th East, Judas Priest. 5 Diary of a Madman, Ozzy. 6 Stained Class, Judas Priest. 7 Made in Japan, Deep Purple. 8 Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Black Sabath. 9 Number of the Beast, Iron Maiden. 10 Any Metal Album ever made!! My best five bands: 1 Haford, 2 Ozzy, 3 Wytchfynde 4 Maiden, 5 Dio.

You have a marvelous voice, it remember DIO and OZZY vocals sometimes. They are your great influences?

My influences, so many: Halford, Dio, Ian Gillan and ofcourse Ozzy.

Another great aspect of the album are the guitar riffs and soles, talk to us about the inspirations behind this incredible guitars and the creative process of great songs like BLESSED BE & UNKNOWN SOLDIER?

Guitars: Down to Ronnie and Rick these two guys work so fuckin well together, I just love 'em. Lyrics, Blessed Be speaks for itself, Religion, sometimes breeds Hate and Bigotry. Unknown Soldier, well, the obscenities of war. The rest? Digest 'em, look hard into them, you'll know what I mean.

In some lyrics of the album you talk about Satan, Devil, Hell and Evil. Are you satanists or occultists ? Wath are the meaning of your lyric aspects?

I was said to be satanist that's why I put so much into Blessed Be. Satan is in all of us, But do e let him out or do we control him? "It's your choice!" Lyrically I mostly write about thins that affect, offend or just piss me off.

In the In the credits you included the writer ANNE RICE (Lestat Vampire). Are you influenced by literature and movies. What are your favourite writers and directors??

Yeah I love reading. Don't have any favourite writers or directors. I'll read anything that grabs my attention. Movies, hmmm, The sixth sense, The Exorcist, Interview witn a Vampire, all that kind of thing.

Do you like another styles of metal like BLACK METAL (Dimmu Borgir, Dark Funeral, Venom, etc), DEATH METAL (In Flames, Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, etc) or GRIND CORE?

My black heart feeds on Metal, any Metal, whatever avenue it takes. Love it all!! The drive, The passion, it keeps me sane! HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!

Do you live of your music? If not, what are your another works.

I live and breathe Heavy Fuckin Metal, or I would not have returned to this Hell!
