CORPSE GRINDER

Corpse Grinder was formed in 1987. They´re debut album, “Persistance”, got good reception in Brazil and all around the world. They play Death Metal, no matters if it´s not supported by media. They always believed in Brazil Underground Scene, showing their persistance on playing the genre. Junior (vocal) answer us some questions about music, radicalism and of course: their new album.

Tell us how “Persistance”, the new Corpse Grinder album, has being reviewed by Magazines and Webzines all around the world.

Junior: I think “Persistance” had a good reception on market. It got good reviews on main Magazines and Webzines, and people who bought it are also giving us a good feedback.

There’re great musics with great quality in “Persistance”. How was it recorded? Who’s the producer? Did you think you got the quality you wanted?

It was recorded in “Da Tribo Studio”, at São Paulo/BR. We recorded this album like the older one, every instrument was recorded separated, so in mixing they were regulated independently, with no harm to other instruments. “Persistance” was produced by Ciero and Tchelo Martins, the same who produced the last Krisiun´s album. We really got the quality we wanted, but if we had more time to record it maybe would be better, but with the time we got, I think it was great!

It´s not easy, but some time ago, it was worst. Actually the underground scene is better here. Where Corpse Grinder play in, it´s always sold out. Maybe it´s not the ideal place to divulge a Death Metal band.The best merchandise to Corpse Grinder are zines from Brazil and foreign zines, which contact us requesting CD´s, Demo´s and collections from Corpse Grinder.

In concerts, the band play some covers from Black Sabbath and Nazareth, of course more dirty and speedily. Is this a way to honor your idols? How do the crowd recept it? By the way, what bands influenced Corpse Grinder music?

Yes, this is a way to honor our idols, and it´s a big pleasure to Corpse Grinder playing covers from these bands... I think this is good so we can do different things, but we also like to play covers from Autopsy, Death and Celtic Frost. No matter what music we play, the crowd recept it very well. Our main influences are: Massacre (USA), Autopsy, Benediction, Death(old), Celtic Frost (old), Black Sabbath, Bolt Thrower and Unleashed.

I play guitar since 1990. Our stuff: I use BC Rich Guitar, Marshall 100W, Shure microphone, Staner potency. Humberto uses: Jackson Guitar with Marshall 80W, Metal Zone distortion pedal. Flavio plays Dolphin bass. Rômulo plays a self-made drum and equipments from different brands.Well, it´s basically the stuff above, more some old bad contact cables, but we have very strength to play Death Metal.

Will you play somewhere next month? Anybody showed interest to take Corpse Grinder outside Brazil?

In june, we´ll play at Alfenas(MG) and Caratinga(MG), Machados in july. Sometime ago there were people who had interest to take us to play outside Brazil, but this didn´t become a fact.

Recently, a girl was sttabed by some dickhead in Krisiun´s concert, at Brasilia/BR. What do you have to say to this radical people?

I think this things happens in every kind of concerts, even more in popular concerts. Maybe 99% of this facts are associated with drugs and excessive alcoholic drinks. Actually there are a lot of radical fans, who think they are hard guys and own the truth about music. Sometimes this kind of people provoke tumults, but I believe this radicalism can not support things like hurting other person. This is realy stupid and it´s not good to underground brazilian scene.

Junior: Yes, we have alrealdy eight new songs, but some of them are still incomplete. We also have to put some “solos” and arrengements. I think untill the end of this year we´ll be in studio to record them.

Lyrics are writed by Rômulo(Drum) and Flavio(Bass), and they write what they thought, which they show their revolt against the rotten reality from this world. I compose bases and Humberto compose solos and arrengements.
