We would like that you could talk about the way of POSEIDON till ENERGY CD release and the band musical proposal.

Marco: The band began in 1992 with the name SHITNESS, and I am the only remainder of the original formation. In 1993 Bilão entered and only in 1994 we recorded our first demo. After that we recorded an alive demo in 1995, entitled "Sign of sanity", later we made our best work - "Negative energy", that had great repercussion. After some changes in the line-up, in 1996 the formation was stabilized with the arrival of Marcelo Soto (drums) and Danilo (guitar). Then we solved to record our first CD and we noticed that the name Shitness wasn't appropriate to identify the sound that we did. Therefore we moved to POSEIDON (god of the seas in the Greek mythology) and we entered in studio for the recording of Energy. Our proposal is just to do the sound that we like, in this case Heavy-metal, without concessions to mode or pré-conceived ideas.

We realize that in your sound there is a strong influence of prog metal and heavy metal elementos, and a very big refinement of arrangements and harmonies. What is your musical formation and which instrumentalists and bands please you most?

Bilão: I studied for some time but most of my formation is autodidactic. Favorite instrumentalists: Steve Harris, Dave Ellefson. Bands: AC/DC, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Grave. Marcelo studied with Ricardo Confessori among others, his favorite drumers is Mike Portnoy, Duda Neves, Dave Weckl and the bands Helloween, Dream Theater and Blind Guardian. Already Danilo also had some time of studies before entering in the band. Instrumentalists: Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Morse and the bands Mercyful Fate, Running Wild.

Marco: I studied guitar for two years (between 1985 and 1986) and eletric guitar for 6 months (in 1993) and also play keyboard and some battery, concerning to the guitarists I would mention Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen, vocalists Glen Hughes, Dio and Ian Gillan as mine favorite. Bands: Death, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Queen.

pos1.jpg (33988 bytes)In the underground means there is a lot of discussion about the virtuosismXfeeling aspects. The work of POSEIDON involves a lot of instrumental technique and that's why we would like to ask how do you work this technique in a way to don't surpass the essence of the music?

Marco: Our band don't have such worry because we look for a spontaneous composition process. The musics follow a natural direction and if there is some technical space it is because the music asks for that resouser. In any way the technician domain is very important because we only can practice what is in our mind and it doesn't depend of the complexity.

Other POSEIDON sound's mark is the incredible work of the bassman Bilão, that prints the mark of his instrument in all the musics of the CD. How is the participation of the bass in the composition process of the band??

Bilão: Actually I think that this point is very funny, because my work whith the bass is something very simple. I always try to follow the drums and to do the bed for the guitars. The songs are composed and then I place the bass.

Some times, the elements of eightiesThrash elements in the music of POSEIDON is evident, as in "Mettalic Tomb". How do you assimilate the influence of those bands and which more they please you??

Marco: The eighties Thrash motivated us to form the band. Mainly in the beginning, the largest influences were of bands as Metallica, Megadeth, Exodus, Testament, Kreator, among another. Nowadays we added more melodic elements and we went away a little of the idea initial, but the thrash is still present in our sound.

The guitar duets and lyrical soils are another of the band's marks. How is to to have two guitarists soil in the same band? Doesn't it generate rivalry?? As Marco is the main composer of the band, Danilo is responsible just for his soils or does he also contribute with rifs and other ideas??

Marco: In spite of all the compositions be mine there is a total freedom and the others members can influence in the destiny of the music. Occasionally, each one helps with something in the arrangements and there isn't any rivalry, what matters is that the band is as a whole thing and not a individual performance of the musicians.

How do you face the presence of the musical producer in the hour of the CD recording. What is the participation and the importance of the productor Roberto Sileci in the CD ENERGY??

Bilão: Betão was important in the technical part, because it lacked us experience of studio. In the music he didn't interfere because everything was already practically dealed when we began to record.

From where came the idea to the CD layer and what is the reason of the name ENERGY??

Bilão: The layer came from a CD-ROM with several images and the remaining of the cover was produced by Marco through graphic computation. The name Energy has its origin in the demo Negative Energy that was recorded in a difficult time for the band.

The POSEIDON letters are short and seminal, some of them seem to contain a certain nihilism and disbelief in the humanity as the one of REGRET OF THE GODS. What is your vision (especially the one of Marco) about religion and God??? What do you think about bands that explore satanic or christians thems???

Marco: Sincerely, I don't believe in God and, consequently, I consider religion a total uselessness. In my point of view the religions have just been provoking negative effects in the human being, inciting wars and intolerance. Concerning the bands that approach the satanism, I believe that their great majority belongs to people that look for a form of calling attention just, without a serious background on the subject. The christian bands makes me laugh with its ingenuous and arrogant ideas. Even so, in any of the cases above, when an exempt reflection of preachings is looked for, I understand as valid the proposal.

How has been the CD ENERGY reception and what are the plans for the future??

Bilão: It has been good, inside of the expected. Ourselves makes the popularization with the help of some friends. For the future we are preparing the next CD that should be recorded in the second semester of 99 and it will bring significant changes in the sound as in the thematic concerning the Energy album.
