HIMINBJORG - INTERVIEW

The third work of this great Pagan Metal band is avaible now, released by the american label REDSTREAM. The name of this opus in MCD is simple THIRD and the music is a kind of atmospheric black metal with doom touches and melancholic climates. KREPUSKULUM interviewed Mathrien D. (G, K, V) by e-mail

Krepuskulum: Where come from this enigmatic name: HIMINBJORG??

Himinbjorg is the name of the castle in the sky where lives Heimdall, a god in Scandinavian mythology.

In your opinion what are the great diferences in the sound of THIRD?? This is your more melodic work, Am I right??

Of course, you're right ! And this is just the beginning... For the first time we had the opportunity to enter a real great studio with a great sound engineer. We also had the necessary time to work on the songs and to improve it. I'd also like to add that our new drummer helped us a lot in making the new material sound better...

You change the drummer. What are the reason for it?

The previous drummer was too much in northern mythology and norwegian music. Since the beginning we wanted to developp a special aspect in music, to tell people about our region and forests. All the more, he was no longer interested in pagan things in a positive way and prefered dark things. As far as we're concerned, we see paganism as something wild and powerful, but not only dark...

In THIRD we can listened influences of true black metal acts (IMMORTAL, DARKTHRONE) in some musics, by the influence of new doom dark metal (PARIDISE LOST, NOVEMBERS DOOM, ANATHEMA) & melodic death metal (IN FLAMES, AMORPHIS) can be listened in all musics. Are these bands inspirations to your music?? For you, what are the HIMINBJORG musical label??

I have to admit that we are inspired by the music we hear. And this is the case for each musician... But I disagree when you tell that we are influenced by bands such as Paradise Lost or In Flames. Our musical label is that we have no musical label...

You are great creators of depressive & melancholic melodies, where come from the inspiration to compose these atmospheres?

From our own experiences in life and great feelings that can often be linked to nature. We play on our instruments and the feelings come out through the notes...

What are the concept behind the THIRD lyrics??

So many concepts behind the lyrics of " Third "... Fading Whispers is about the death or a huge tree which is killed by men with no respect. " The Great Time With The Grass " songs are about the emotions, feelings and journeys that I share with nature when being under the spell of the Grass... To me, it is a very impressive way to enter the heart of the forests and trees.

What do you think about bands and metal fans that hate new wave of melodic black metal and bands like MISTELTEIN, DIMMU BORGIR, EINHERJER, etc.?

I don't give a fuck. We play our music and nobody who is not involved in it is forced to listen to it. But I have to deal with bastards everyday and this is more annoying... Anyway, I was in the scene before a lot of those who say that they are true !!!!

How have been the reception of THIRD by the fans?? Do you have plans for a tour?

Some like, some don't ! We are booking tour dates for the future but I can't tell more now. Just wait and see.

In your opinion wath are the 10 best albuns of the metal history ?? An wath are the 10 best bands now??
