MINDSNARE INTERVIEW

MINDSNARE is a new legend of grind death metal coming from Italy. The second album HATEFUL ATTITUDE, released by Malaysian label PSYCHIC SCREAM is an incredible masterpiece of agressivity against melody!!!! It sounds like extreme acts as CANNIBAL CORPSE, DEICIDE & DEEDS OF FLESH. Krepuskulum interviewed GIGI CASINI (bas/vocal) by e-mail.

Krepuskulum: Talk to us about the band tragectory. What is the reason of the name MINDSNARE ?

Gigi: We born in 1989 with name of SATAN’SLAUGHTER, chenged in 1990 in CHEMIOTERAPY. MIND SNARE name came in 1991/92 after we listened Napalm Death album, "Harmony Corruption". We loved the song "Mind Snare" so we decided to change name for the LAST Time. We play music that came from mind, so we love this name. Our music is a kind of brainwashing... Mind Snare is an entity not just a band. It’s a part of our life, maybe the most important...

The new album is an evolution of your music but the agressivity since is the highlight point! When come from the inspiration for this extreme hate???

Gigi: It cames from the HATE. Too much people in our western society lives their lifes trying to fuck the others, so i look around and i can see only shit... Hate is the natural evolution of this way of life. We live with hate in our veins, so we can only play this kind of music... I think that only Brutaldeath and Hardcore music got a real violent and uncompromising attitude...

The cover artwork of HATEFUL ATTITUDE is very beautiful an enigmatic, what is the meaning of these illustration??

Gigi: The cover got a basic meaning with the cd title, the attitude of these creatures against all their enemies. An Hateful Attitude against all. It’s a painting of the autor of "Hegemony" cover. It’s the natural evolution of "Hegemony" concept.

The new fashion in metal is the melodic midtempos inside the heavy passages.What do you think about this fashion? Do you like violins, female vocals and other stuffs?

Gigi: I don’t give a fuck about violins, keyboards and shit like that... The only female vocals that i can like is a growing female vocals... Like Nuclear Death singer, ahahah.

The Italian metal movement is famous now by the success of bands like RAPSODY & LABYRINTH (melodic metal). Wath do you think about these bands?

Gigi: i don’t like power metal so i don’t like Rapsody and Labyrinth. I don’t like the melody in metal music so i can say that these bands don’t plays "metal"... I am 32 old and i remember, in 1982-83, when i was 14-15, that i fallen in love with metal music because it was an anti-music, against all! In 2001 i cannot listen melodic metal because is not metal... For me, is pop like britney spears... You cannot say: "I’m a metalhead" just playing melodic riffs, clear vocals and epic lyrics. You are mainstream just like the shitty pop music, no way... In these dark age Metal is very mainstream, i listen only extreme stuffs. Extreme music for extreme people. It’s a way of life!

In the last music of the new album "Invocations of the 4 Gates" you talk about old rituals and use elements of the H.P. Lovrcraft cosmogony. Do you study the Lovecraft books?? Do you believe in dark occult powers?? Are you satanists or demonologs??

Gigi: I loved H.P. Lovecraft. He was a fuckin madman, totally drug addicted to write these kind of books!!! I don’t believe in occult powers and i’m not a satanist or a demonolog, i live in real life and i can’t believe in this kind of shit. I written about Lovecraft because i liked his books, so it’s just a tribute to him. But i don’t think you can live your life beside this kind of things...

The song HATEBOMB already is one of the new grindeath hymns, the structure of these song is very insane and nihilist. What do you think about humanity?? Do you believe in a reason for our existence??

Gigi: I’m honoured that you catch the real meaning of this song. "Hatebomb" is my personal anthem, dedicated to all the false people that i hate. I don’t think is too much insane and nihilist, it’s just a frontal assault against all the categories included in this song. What i think about humanity? A worls divide beetween rich and poor. I hate money and power with all my heart. I believe in a reason to live. To fight against all injustice of this filth world.

In your opinion what are the 10 best extreme metal bands now??

Gigi: Bastard Saints, Nefas, Awful, Morbus, Mind Snare, Cadaveric Crematorium, Dysmorfic (All these bands from Italy). + Sinister, Incantation, Mortician.

What is the reason to release your new album in a label from Asia??

Gigi: Because Eric Cheah from Malaysia was the only person since 1989 that believe in us and he got the same project of us, in his mind. He re-released "Hegemony" after 3 months after i met him on internet... He’s a great guy... We love Eric, he’s the most honest and hard-working guy that we know. He lives for the underground like us. I hope to release all Mind Snare stuffs with Eric, in future.

What are your plans for the new album's tour?

Well, we’ll tour Italy as well, headlining all the dates. We will play too with bands like Krabathor, Disgorge(Mex), Sanatorium, Fleshless, Goreopsy, Pandemia, Houwitser, etc... We will tour Belgium and Holland and maybe South East, in Malaysia, Thailandia, Indonesia but i’m not sure, because it’s really hard to organize a big tour 10000 km. far from home... Wait’n’see... The most important thing for Mind Snare is to play, we need to show to the masses how we can play "brutal as fuck", on stage. We love your fans. Forever.
