THEATRE OF THE MACABRE - Interview

theatremacabre6b.jpg (12251 bytes)THEATRE OF THE MACABRE is a new extreme occult black metal act, including in your crew the famous & legendary keyboard master Le'Rue Delashay. Your first full length album "A PARADISE IN FLESH & BLOOD" is avaiable now, released by the great label ROOT OF ALL EVIL.  Krepuskulum interviewed the band about your album and your  polemic gig in 2000 MILWAUKEE METALFEST.Krepuskulum Interviewed Le'Rue Delashay & Ornias.

Krepuskulum: Do you play an extreme black metalform influenced by european acts like Dark Funeral & Gorgoroth but yourmusic have an classical touch too, and melodic midtempos. Talk to us  about your musical influences.

Ornias:  The melodic midtempos, classical overtures, and the ferocious guitar and vocal onslaughts are very much a reflection of our collective persona utilizing indivual talents. We emphasize the influence of our  own energies and desires as much as possible, as we believe this to be an important catalyst to creating pure and majestic musick, which is our  common goal and priority.

theatre6c.jpg (10773 bytes)What is the reason to named your band  THEATRE OF THE MACABRE (exist some bands that use the word THEATRE in  your name: THEATRE OF TRAGEDY, DREAM THEATER, etc.).
Ornias : "Theatre" is defined in the english dictionary as:  dramatic performance such as an art, profession, or, way of life, in accordance with the place or realm, where significant actions occur.  We chose to name ourselves "Theatre of the Macabre", as we felt the  "macabre" (horrid, chilling, deathly, etc...,) was a suitable term to  describe both our audio and visual presentation, which portrays our  fantasy's and reality.

The cover art of "A PARADISE IN FLESH & BLOOD"is extreme with SM references. The picture remembered  some concepts and creepy ideas of CLIVE BARKER, one of the new genius of  horror ( Director of HELLRAISER). Are you influenced by Barker and others writers to write your lyrics ?

Ornias: As evolving individuals, knowledge of the universe and its  workings through the occult will always influence the lyrical dialect of Theatre of the Macabre. Our scriptures truly stand as a testament to our  life's expierances on both the physical and the spiritual planes of existance.

Le' rue Delashay: On the Liturate side of our musick, we appreciate the written art of H.P. Lovecraft, Dr. Anton Lavey, A. Crowley, Goethe, Milton, G.I. Gurjieff, among many others. The written word has the ability  to spark the imagination, as Clive Barkers short story, "the Hellbound heart" sparked the Hellraiser series.

theatreornias6.jpg (3599 bytes)INFERNO and DEVIL is one of the great references in your musics. Do you believe in Satan? Wath are your  opinion about God and religion ?

Ornias: "Satan" is a term that has derived from many cultures and  ages bearing the villain, or rebel stigma. Satanism is interperated by  us,as a mere lifestyle being synonymous with the spirit of  self-enlightenment, which invokes the greater mysteries to reveal  themselves. Satanic imagery and lore has been proven to a be a powerful tool that we have chosen to incorporate in our "eccentric"   stage show and musick. Concerning organized religion's, we feel that their sole purpose is to  cater the herd mentality a set of dogma and purpose.... an institution of  mental slavery that is oftenly used to oppress man's true nature and   prosperity.

THEATRE OF THE MACABRE is already one of the great bands of the american black metal scene. In your  opinion, where are the  best bands of mundial Black metal at now??

La' rue Delashay: The truly great bands in the genre of Black Metal are exploring realms that are vastly different in scope and broadening the musickal boundaries of metal. Each has their own approach and it is good  to see that this style of musick will continue to develop, and as the new breed of American metal, we strive to unleash our own particular visions  of the infernal apocolypse upon your tender ears.

theatrelerue6.jpg (38285 bytes)Some of your musics are very powerful and complex like the beautiful "Through the Eyes of the Serpent". How did  the creative process work in order to compose this epic masterpiece?

Le' rue Delashay:  All of our material (Songs, Interludes, rituals, etc...) is the creation of thought divine, the magickal ability to create  from the ethereal realms of thought and sound and transform pure will  into something that speaks to the soul. once brought into physical  manifestation and into the form of a CD or Vinyl, the thought becomes permanantly bound to the material plane, and is the physical entity of true will and desire.

The first gig of THEATRE OF THE MACABRE in the legendary 2000 MILWAUKEE METALFEST was incredible!!!!! Talk to us  about this experience and about your curious performance & make up.

Ornias: We are honored that we have been recieved so well in the U.S.,and through-out the world. Our success at Milwaukee Metalfest 2000 must be given due to our stellar label "Root of all Evil recs." who has supported and promoted this band from day one, as well as the diabolic minions and fans of the american black/death metal underground, who have heralded the arrival of our "thousand year reign!!!" We are   consistantly modifying our stage show, and the horror, perversion, and   blasphemy emanating from our new material gaurentees nightmares for
christians world-wide!!!

Give your message to brazilian & world fans.

Le' rue Delashay: With all that is happenening for Theatre over the course of the next few months, expect to hear alot more from us. Stay  true to the underground, metal is an evolution...

Ornias: Hails to all who support "Theatre of the Macabre" and the ndergound.
