VAMPIRIA - INTERVIEW

MARVELOUS!!! DIVINE!!! This is some words that we think when listened the debut album "Among The Mortals" from argentinian masters VAMPIRIA. This CD is aimpressive opus with fenomenal melodic work & heavy midtempos. The first influences are CRADLE OF FILTH and another melodic vampiric/black metal acts by don't think that VAMPIRIA is an simple clone because this band have great personality and creativity!!!. Krepuskulum interviewed OSWALTH (Keyboards).

Krepuskulum: Talk to us about the band tragectory. Wath the reason to play Vampiric Metal ?

Oswalth: Well, Vampiria, begins to gestate in April of 1997, in the city of Olavarría, in the moment in that the Gothic movement began to have certain repercussion in the musical scene. The band began practicing a coalition of  Doom/Death with passages of traditional Heavy, coming closer to bands of the old school. After certain time, a keyboardplayer is included, with who, some of those integral of the band they had shared other formations, then the voice of a soprano finishes closing the circle, and a total change begins in the forms of composing and in the sound of the band, having the possibility of  to obtain new varying harmonic/melodic and can to expand the style toward the new currents as the Symphonic Blackmetal, Darkgothic and Darkmetal. From their total formation, the band participated from diverse recitals to level local and zonal.
We record a demo called "Legacy in Blood" with four tracks, with the which we are able to capture the attention of several people, among them, Exequiel Nuñez, who carried out the contact with the lavel that at the moment it publishes and it distributes our material, ICARUS. By the middle of 1999, he was carried out the recording of the track "Grull has Arrived" in
"The ship of Oseberg", the which it was part of the one compiled "Supernatural Extremities Vol V" of the magazine " Grinder "
Then the possibility arises of returning to the study of Capital, by the middle of 2000 to carry out the recording of "mong Mortals" at the moment is our first C.D.The reason that impels us to play this music is simple, WE LIKE THAT!!!

The debut album "Among  Mortals" is an masterpiece of metal.Talk to us about the creative process behind the composition of this opus.

The songs is all our, and they are born of some riffs or melodies proposed by Demian the guitarist in the rehearsals, and then arranged in the pré recording for all Vampires.

The bands members get us an impressive exemple of technic & feeling in debut CD. Did you play in others bands before VAMPIRIA???

Well thanks!Yes, we play in some non well-known bands.

In some lyrics of the album you include the Satan name?? Do you believe in occult powers of Demon an in the real existence of Hell & Satan?? Are you Satanists or this is an image with symbolic meanings??

This is a very long and deep question that would deserve an answer more longer and deeper, but, synthesizing, not all of us think the same on this, basically we believe in a force of evil called "Satan" and another opposed called "God" that he lives and he dies inside and with each one of us. This is not an invented image but neither we are satanists.

The artwork of the album is very impressive. Talk about the concept behind it.

The cover is the result of the interpretation of our work that made temnO.un.art (Giuseppe Ferrillo) from Italy who designed the whole art, being based on the music, the letters and some images and ideas that we contribute us, their interpretation is quite free.

The new fashion in black metal is the melodic acts like: DIMMU BORGIR, CHILDREN OF BODOM & CRADLE OF FILTH .What do you think about this bands? Is it a moment fashion?? Are you include in these fashion?

Maybe in other countries this is a new fashion, but here in Argentina it is truly under, we like those bands and we believe to be part of this scene under here.

How are the metal scene in your country now?

Here in Argentina the scene of extreme metal is very poor, they only fill "Power Metal" bands and those of "Rock Argento"

You don't use make-ups like DIMMU BORGIR & CRADLE OF FILTH?? Wath do you think about the make-ups? Is the image important for the music??

No, we don't use make-up. In fact, the topic of the aesthetics tries to manage it in the way more natural possible, we don't want to force to the band to an image that is contradicted with their concept. Vampiria fundamentally is a band of Heavy symphonic metal, and that is it that we want to make today per today.

In your opinion wath are the 10 best metal albuns of the history ?? An wath are the 10 best bands now??

Metallica / Metallica; Therion / Vovin; Vanden Plas / The god thing; Metallica / S&M; Elend / The umbersun; Pink Floyd / Almost all their disks; Samael / Passage; Type o Negative / October rust; Covenant / Nexus Polaris; Ataraxia / Le fantasma dele´Opera; Maihem...etc.

We listened some underground horror fans talking about a new argentinian VAMPIRES movie. Do you know these movie?? Is it good??

Sorry, we don't listen anything of this, we hope it´s true and very good.

How are the reception for the debut CD? Do we have plans for a tour??

We believe that to single three months of publishing the disk is difficult to give a verdict of that it will pass with Among...", however the fact that you sold governess the license to the lavel WAR IS IMMINENT of Spain, for intermediate of ICARUS, and they find arisen good offers from other countries, and based on the answer of the public, we believe that it is a good sign to continue making this as up to now.
