Haemoglobin first joined in the middle of last year, and had a different
name and a different line up. We were called "X-Rated Jumping Castle" for
a couple of weeks and then we agreed to change the name to what it is now.
I was the drummer, Will Starbuck played bass, Luke McKie played rhythm guitar,
Mookie Blaylock played lead guitar and Felicity Mendola was the singer.
After a month, Mookie left us to concentrate on his main band (and our
'brother band'), Shitfish. He joined us one last time to play at my brother's
18th party and we had a great time!
The next gig that followed was my 17th at the start of this year. Felicity
left the band, so we needed a new singer and we needed one fast! So I asked
Kade Taylor to step in. He was very enthusiastic about being the lead singer
in my band and he did a great job! I also got to sing a couple of songs that
night, and Kade (being an ample drummer), didn't mind handing over the mic
for a couple of songs. After the party, Haemoglobin was to break up and
reform after the holidays, yet not everyone was asked back. The guitarist
was dropped because of creative differences (and because he never came to
rehersals!) and we picked up Xavier Irvine, a good friend of Will's
and he worked out great! Kade liked the feel of being behind the drum kit
and I like the idea of singing, so we traded places for good.
So now we had a new guitarist, me as singer, Kade as the drummer and Will,
as always, on bass. The next step for Haemoglobin was to get another gig,
and we had a lot of trouble finding one! So we made one up instead! My
year 11 communication project was a great success and was the first time
we had the chance to show our school what we were made of! "The Big Gig"
was mine and Jacob's communication project and Haemoglobin, Shitfish and
Advesary were the three bands who performed! The day was a great way to
promote the bands at our school and after Mikey Mendola saw how great
we were, he wanted us to play at his party.
It was a 'year 9 party', but it was a gig, and we had nothing else to do!
The songs we played are as follows: Better Man, Alive, Song 2, Rearview
Mirror, I Alone, Mankind, and Lithium. Although the croud was not very
receptive, we had a good time and had a great night! We are now looking
for another gig and are looking to write some original material. If you
have any suggestions on songs that we could cover that would be good
for a grunge band, email me or
sign my guestbook! Keep on moshing!
